Green Party – “Segregation now, segregation tomorrow and segregation forever”

Annamie Paul says some of her candidates don’t want her to visit their ridings

TORONTO — Green Party Leader Annamie Paul said on Friday that she’s staying out of other ridings in part to avoid being a distraction and to honour her candidates’ wishes.

At a press conference on Friday, Paul addressed why she hasn’t been travelling to various ridings around the country, acknowledging that some candidates might not want her to visit.

“I still want to make sure that if I travel somewhere first, that I’m wanted, and that’s not a given, and then secondly, that it is going to help our local candidates and that’s also unfortunately, not a given,” she said a press conference on Friday.

Syracuse Professor Trashes 9/11 Commentary, Says It Was An Attack on ‘Heteropatriarchal Capitalistic Systems’ Preferred By White Americans

Racist Lunatic

Jenn M. Jackson, an assistant professor at Syracuse University’s political science department, took issue with the way people are discussing the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.

Jackson, who has a verified Twitter account and describes herself as “a queer genderflux androgynous Black woman, an abolitionist, [and] a lover of all Black people,” tweeted that she was “really disturbed by how many white pundits and correspondents talk about” 9/11.

AOC says Republicans share shortcomings of rape culture: It’s ‘abuse of power’ and about ‘asserting control’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez , a New York Democrat, likened Republicans’ abortion law to “rape culture” Tuesday following the commencement of the Texas Heartbeat Act, also alluding to “menstruating person[s]” when referring to women.

The law, which many consider one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the nation, demonstrates that Republicans such as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell , a Kentucky Republican, want to have more control over women’s bodies than women do, Ocasio-Cortez said.

National Archives Places ‘Harmful Language Alert’ On Page Hosting U.S. Constitution.

The alert now appears on many pages on the archives.org website, and links to a page entitled “NARA’s Statement on Potentially Harmful Content,” which they define as:

  • reflect racist, sexist, ableist, misogynistic/misogynoir, and xenophobic opinions and attitudes;
  • be discriminatory towards or exclude diverse views on sexuality, gender, religion, and more;
  • include graphic content of historical events such as violent death, medical procedures, crime, wars/terrorist acts, natural disasters and more;
  • demonstrate bias and exclusion in institutional collecting and digitization policies.

Bizarrely, the warning does not appear on a page about Jim Crow, which has no fewer than 6 uses of the word “n*gg*r.” Nor does it appear on a page with the word “k*ke.”

The Star wants to know why we don’t have diplomatic relations with a Terrorist State that just elected a mass murderer as its President

It’s been nine years since Canada severed diplomatic ties with Iran. How long can this go on?

Today marks nine years since Canada severed all diplomatic ties with Iran. The freeze in relations has persisted, despite the 2015 nuclear deal, the global battle against Islamic State group militants in Syria and Iraq, and even last year’s tragic downing of Flight 752. Although it plays host to the second-largest community of Iranians outside the country, Canada remains among the few states with no diplomatic links with Tehran. How long can this go on?

Newly discovered Napoleon hat with his DNA up for auction

Newly discovered Napoleon hat with his DNA up for auction

A newly discovered hat with DNA evidence proving it belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte has gone on display at auction house Bonhams in Hong Kong.

Described by Bonhams as the “first hat to bear the emperor’s DNA“, it is being previewed in Hong Kong before it moves to Paris and then London, where it will be auctioned on 27 October.

The hat, one of the bicornes often seen in depictions of Napoleon on the battlefield, had been bought by its present owner at a small German auction house who did not know at the time it had belonged to the emperor.
