RCMP has struggled to staff unit dedicated to protection of politicians, records show

The RCMP has been struggling for years to fulfill demands from the federal government that it bolster the ranks of officers who protect politicians, yet that unit has remained significantly short-staffed, records show.

The records, which were filed publicly as part of a labour board dispute, illustrate the challenges the RCMP will face during the scheduled 2025 federal election, when politicians across Canada will be campaigning amid a polarizing political climate.

Bots push conspiracy theory that Trump shooting was staged

Bot accounts promoting the theory that Donald Trump’s assassination attempt was staged have helped to generate almost 600 million views for a wave of misinformation.

The social media analysis company Cyabra found that 45pc of profiles on X, formerly known as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok spreading the theory that the shooting was orchestrated by Mr Trump were fake accounts.

The hashtags #fakeassassination, #stagedshooting and #stagedbytrump were widely used across the four social networks, it said.

In the wake of the Hamas-led attack on Israel on Oct. 7 last year and Israel’s subsequent military assault in Gaza, Halifax Pride and other organizations in Canada have faced calls from parts of the 2SLGBTQ+ community to support Palestinian people.

Community educator Aaliyah Paris is one non-binary and queer person in Halifax who’s made that call.

She wants more transparency from Halifax Pride, and for it to divest from companies on the Canadian boycott, divest and sanction (BDS) list — a group of firms, organizations and people that pro-Palestinian groups say should be boycotted to put pressure on Israel.

Local counter-sniper team was inside building where Trump shooter climbed on the roof and opened fire: sources

A local police counter-sniper team was stationed inside the building where attempted assassin Thomas Crooks climbed on the roof and fired on Donald Trump, law enforcement sources told The Post.

The building — the AGR International Inc. factory in Butler, Pennsylvania — was being used by local police as a “watch post” for snipers to scan for threats as the former president spoke onstage

only 130 yards away, according to sources.

Stunning new details from @CBSNews on how secret service snipers noticed the shooter before the Trump rally in Butler, PA on Saturday.

There were three snipers stationed INSIDE the building the shooter was on, according to a local law enforcement officer with direct knowledge.

One of the snipers inside saw Crooks outside looking up at the roof observing the building and then disappeared, according to local law enforcement.

Dr. Karen Pinder, a medical professor at University of British Columbia (UBC), said it’s “too bad” the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump was unsuccessful.

Trump on Saturday was shot at with a rifle from a rooftop during the Republican Convention in Pennsylvania Saturday. The bullet skimmed the cartilage in his ear, but otherwise he was unharmed. One person was killed, and two critically injured.

I don’t care what they said. I do care that their ideology may dictate the ill-treatment of students and colleagues they consider political enemies.

The group behind the proposal to construct a Somali Centre for Culture and Recreation (SCCR) in Etobicoke’s Buttonwood Park says it would be the culmination of a decades-long effort to carve out space for a Black community that has endured discrimination and lacks access to public amenities.

Nothing says identity politics ghetto like a tax payer funded Mohammedan centre.
