German town battles invasion of ‘super-ants’

The species from north Africa, Tapinoma magnum, has been known to knock out electricity and damage roads

An invasion of “super-ants” is causing a stir in Germany after a prolifically reproducing species from north Africa was blamed for knocking out internet and electricity connections.

Residents of Kehl, near the French border, say the insects are breeding at such a pace that nothing can be done to prevent giant colonies from spreading across entire districts, where their tunnels are undermining roads and pavements.

Public safety minister convenes top security officials, assures even bigger SUV convoys for Trudeau after attack on Trump

Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc says top Canadian security officials have assured him that they have upped their vigilance following Saturday’s assassination attempt on former U.S. president Donald Trump.

In a series of posts on social media on Sunday, LeBlanc said he met with RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme, David Vigneault, director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, and Public Safety Canada officials.

“They have assured me that they are exercising increased vigilance and are in close contact with their American partners,” the minister said. “I have every confidence that they will continue to keep Canadians safe.”

France rejects 3,570 Olympics jobseekers over terrorism links and other risks to the games

French authorities have rejected more than 3,500 applicants to work at the Olympics over terror links and security threats.

Gérald Darmanin, the interior minister, announced that the government conducted hundreds of thousands of investigations to screen applicants who posed a risk to the games and to national security.

He said: “770,000 administrative investigations have been carried out to date, resulting in the exclusion of 3,570 people.”

It took just minutes for anti-Donald Trump conspiracy theorists to claim the shooting was ‘staged’ to boost his electoral prospects.

The first posts appeared on X as agents were whisking Trump from the scene of his Pennsylvania rally blood running down the right side of his face.

In the hours after Saturday’s night shooting, ‘staged’ was the fourth ranked search term on Google, followed by Trump, Secret Service, and Antifa – before law enforcement had even confirmed the identity of the gunman.

“The Secret Service is really the one to answer that question,” said a Pennsylvania police official to curious reporters after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. “[We] really have to defer to Secret Service for those questions,” an official told another reporter about the Pennsylvania attack. “Well, Secret Service always has the lead on securing something like this…” came another reference to the early evening shooting at the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. And on and on it went at a presser on Saturday night after Trump was shot. The bunch that might give us some answers skipped it to possibly stay out of legal trouble with investigators.

Bernie Sanders has offered his backing to Joe Biden, dismissing calls for the man he described as the “most effective president in the modern history of our country” to stand down in the upcoming US presidential election.

Sanders, the totemic progressive US senator, used an opinion piece in the New York Times to endorse Biden, who has come under increasing fire from fellow Democrats over his ability to beat Donald Trump following a disastrous televised debate between the two.

Trump Survives Assassination Attempt At Butler PA Rally – Rooftop Shooter Killed

UPDATE – Two people have reportedly died after gunshots were fired at a Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania – with the injured former president rushed off stage by armed security.

Butler County District attorney told the Associated Press (AP) that a shooter was dead and that a rally attendee had also been killed. One person is also reportedly in critical condition.
