Chicago cop sues city for right to change his race after department allows officers to change genders

A Chicago police officer is suing the city to change his race on his official records after the department said it would allow officers to freely change their gender to match their identity.

Mohammad Yusuf, 43, said in a federal civil rights lawsuit filed last week that he is looking to change from “Caucasian” as he “currently identifies as Egyptian and African American.” However, the Chicago Police Department is not allowing him to change his race.

The war between Israel and Hamas, a militant group designated by the U.S. as a terrorist organization, has resulted in approximately 30,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza, including some 12,300 children, the Associated Press reported, citing the Gaza Health Ministry. Israel declared war after Hamas attacked and killed about 1,200 people and took 240 people as hostages.

Online harms act won’t ban ‘awful but lawful’ content online, says justice minister

Justice Minister Arif Virani says the Online Harms Act won’t give the federal government the power to determine what is and isn’t appropriate content.

The bill, tabled by the Liberal government Monday, includes an amendment to define “hatred” in Canada’s Criminal Code. That definition, Virani said, does not include insulting or offensive content, but rather recognized hate speech like calling for genocide.

“People insult groups or people or races or religions all of the time. That’s going to continue to be awful but lawful,” Virani told The Current’s Matt Galloway.

“But when you call for the extermination of a people, you’re hitting a hate standard that’s already been entrenched by the courts.”

From the river to the sea Virani will invent the crime that fits me.

Far-left RAF terror suspect Daniela Klette arrested

A German prosecutor’s office on Tuesday said Daniela Klette, one of three fugitive members of the far-left Red Army Faction (RAF) terror group, had been arrested.

German police had been searching for the trio, suspected of attempted murder and a series of armed robberies after decades on the run.

The public prosecutor’s office in the town of Verden in Lower Saxony said the 65-year-old was caught in Berlin on Monday.

“We have an arrest of Ms. Klette,” said Koray Freudenberg, senior public prosecutor, whose office is investigating Klette and fellow suspects Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg.

Victory For Hottentots: Mary Poppins film age rating raised over ‘discriminatory language’

Mary Poppins, the classic film starring Julie Andrews, has had its age rating raised by British film censors because it features “discriminatory language”.

The 1964 film has been reclassified from a U, which stands for universal, to a PG, for parental guidance.

In it, a derogatory term originally used by white Europeans about nomadic peoples in southern Africa is used to refer to soot-faced chimney-sweeps.

That now “exceeds our guidelines” for U films, the BBFC said.
