Canada offering more than C$13 bln over decade for Volkswagen battery plant, govt source says

OTTAWA, April 20 (Reuters) – Canada agreed to provide subsidies of up to C$13 billion ($9.7 billion) over a decade plus a C$700 million grant to lure Volkswagen AG into building its North American battery plant in the country, a government source said confirming an earlier report by Bloomberg News.

The total Canadian investment, which could include funds from the Ontario government also, will largely match what Volkswagen would have got from the United States through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the source said.

Egyptians complain over Netflix depiction of Cleopatra as black

A Netflix docudrama series that depicts Queen Cleopatra VII as a black African has sparked controversy in Egypt.

A lawyer has filed a complaint that accuses African Queens: Queen Cleopatra of violating media laws and aiming to “erase the Egyptian identity”.

A top archaeologist insisted Cleopatra was “light-skinned, not black”.

I hope Cleo is a Dwarf who hooks up with a racialized Gay Elf and goes on a Ring quest, that would be a great show.

Islamophobia and violence against Muslims is widespread and deeply entrenched in Canadian society, early findings from a Senate committee studying the issue indicate.

Muslim women who wear hijabs – Black Muslim women in particular – are the most vulnerable, and confronting Islamophobia in a variety of public spheres is difficult, the committee on human rights has found.

“Canada has a problem,” committee chair Sen. Salma Ataullahjan said in a phone interview with The Canadian Press.

Duisburg Stabbing: The alleged perpetrator could be described as about 30 years old with a ‘southern appearance’

BERLIN (AP) — Four people were severely wounded in a stabbing attack at a gym in the western German city of Duisburg, police said Tuesday evening.

No arrests were announced, and police said they were seeking one suspect. The motive of the attack was not immediately clear.

The incident occurred in the old city of Duisburg and police asked residents to stay at home and avoid the area. They said a large number of officers were at the scene of the attack, right across from the city hall.

“Southern Appearance” is code for “African/Middle Eastern” etc.

Duisburg Germany: 4 people stabbed in fitness studio

An attacker seriously injured at least four people at a fitness center in the old town of the western German city of Duisburg on Tuesday evening, police said on Twitter.

Authorities confirmed that an operation led by police from the nearby city of Essen was under way and advised citizens to avoid the area.
