YouTube removes more than 9,000 channels relating to Ukraine war

YouTube has taken down more than 70,000 videos and 9,000 channels related to the war in Ukraine for violating content guidelines, including removal of videos that referred to the invasion as a “liberation mission”.

The platform is hugely popular in Russia, where, unlike some of its US peers, it has not been shut down despite hosting content from opposition figures such as Alexei Navalny. YouTube has also been able to operate in Russia despite cracking down on pro-Kremlin content that has broken guidelines including its major violent events policy, which prohibits denying or trivialising the invasion.

Thanks for the PR win says Putin!

The YouTube Nazi Panic was just another moral panic

We freaked out, but there was never any evidence to back it up.

Back in 2018, a friend visited me from out of town and wanted to show me some of the YouTube videos he and his friends had been watching. I quickly realized that he had gotten into alt-right content, and was now viewing it on my own YouTube account. Some of the videos, for example, featured Disney musical clips dubbed over with lyrics about how Trump would restore White power. Having read the media reports of YouTube’s algorithmic radicalization, I was immediately worried that my YouTube recommendations would from now on be full of Nazi propaganda.

Russia regulator declares YouTube a ‘terrorist in nature’

A Russian technology regulator declared YouTube’s and parent company Google’s actions as “terrorist in nature.”

The Russian regulator Roskomnadzor claimed that social media platforms are allowing advertisements that encourage Russia’s communications systems and Belarus’s train systems to be suspended. The watchdog made all of these accusations as Big Tech companies make moves against Russia due to the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

They’re right.

‘Woke Reformation’ Reveals Cancel Culture’s Insidious Roots

Documentarians avoid tackling Cancel Culture for understandable reasons.

Say the wrong thing on screen, or have the wrong social media message in your digital past, and suddenly you’re the next Cancel Culture victim.

Even the 2019 docudrama “No Safe Spaces,” a brilliant expose of how woke thinking conquered the college landscape, is partially out of date thanks to Cancel Culture’s exponential rise.

Director Travis D. Brown isn’t afraid to cover Cancel Culture. He’s the driving force behind “The Woke Reformation,” a new YouTube (and Locals.com) based series examining this cultural blowtorch.

Censorship is Science? So says YouTube

“Anything that would go against World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations would be a violation of our policy, and so removal is another really important part of our policy,” Wojcicki said.

Never mind the endless examples of lies and deceit from WHO, CDC, governments in general, etc. Never mind the inconsistent messaging on masks or propaganda on vaccine efficacy from the “authorities” and “experts.” Never mind all the doctors who have actually treated patients who disagree with YouTube’s preapproved sources. Never mind the corrupt fact-checkers and shills.
