Israel says it struck Tehran’s Evin prison and Fordo access routes

The Israeli military has struck Tehran’s notorious Evin prison and damaged parts of the facility, which holds many political detainees, Iran’s judiciary says.

The judiciary’s Mizan news agency reported that the situation on the ground was “under control” following the attack. CCTV footage showed an explosion at one of the prison’s gates, while state TV pictures showed first responders carrying a casualty and searching for survivors under a flattened building.

Israel’s defence minister said it was hitting “regime targets and agencies of government repression” across Tehran, including Evin.

Barbara Kay: Canada needs to have a serious talk about the Muslim Brotherhood

Carney speaks at a Muslim Brotherhood function

Last week, some 4,000 participants from over 40 countries demanded humanitarian aid access to Gaza, via Egypt’s heavily fortified border crossing at Rafah. An advance group of 200 (including a number of Canadians) was stopped by Egyptian police, indifferent to emotional pleas for their cooperation on behalf of their Gazan “brethren.” The incident ended with casual brutality meted out to some, others detained or deported.

Judges advised to reject rape defendants’ chosen pronouns

Wall of Transgender Heroines

Judges will no longer have to refer to criminal defendants by the gender of their choice in an update after the Supreme Court’s transgender ruling.

The revised guidance abandons self-identification language and reaffirms the binary definition of sex to state that the legal definition of a woman means biological female rather than sex attained by the acquisition of a gender recognition certificate (GRC).

It says that non-binary status has no legal footing and sets out that courts may refuse contested pronouns.

Canadians say Carney government failed them as Iranian missiles landed in Israel

The Carney government largely failed to help Canadian citizens safely and quickly exit Israel as Iran began its deadly bombardment of civilian areas late last week, according to two evacuees.

Two Canadians who spent several days sheltering intermittently in bomb shelters say they found safe passage via Birthright, an organization that brings members of the Jewish diaspora to Israel on a 10-day sponsored trip to learn more about the country.

French police probe staged Disneyland ‘wedding’ with minor

A fake wedding at Disneyland Paris in France triggered a police investigation on Sunday after the theme park’s staff suspected that the “bride” in the alleged ceremony was a 9-year-old Ukrainian girl.

Hundreds of extras were brought in to play the role of guests.

To solve Canada’s housing crisis, we need to change the way we think about wealth

Hard work in Canada has never paid less, in economic opportunity or quality of life. For most young Canadians, it doesn’t really matter how much you make in dollars and cents: without family money, the big picture is largely the same. No homeownership. No path to building wealth. Delayed family formation, or none at all.

This corrosive disconnect between salary and lifestyle goes to the heart of Canada’s generational tensions. Outside rural areas, even a six-figure salary often means living paycheque to paycheque by the time rent, transit, food and other basic expenses are paid for. Needless to say, many young people make far less than six figures, which is why one out of every four food bank users in Ontario these days is employed.

Trump speculates about regime change in Iran after US strikes

US President Donald Trump has raised the possibility of a change in leadership in Iran, after his country joined Israel in striking Iranian nuclear facilities.

On Sunday, Trump posted on social media to ask “why wouldn’t there be a Regime change???”

His remarks came after other top US officials stressed that toppling Iran’s leaders was not the aim of Saturday’s military action, during which US bombers targeted three sites in an effort to curtail Tehran’s nuclear programme.

WARMINGTON: Only in Toronto would swimming pools be closed because it’s too hot

Hot times, summer in the city but don’t even think about making sure the swimming pools are open 24/7.

This time, the City of Toronto dove into the deep end and is drowning in absurdity. Toronto won’t easily live down the day it closed its public swimming pools to kids and families wanting to cool down because it was too hot.

Muslim Pupils Harrassing “Non-Believer” Classmates in Hamburg

Muslims in Germany: Caliphate is the solution

There is a frightening trend in Hamburg’s schools: Muslim pupils are putting pressure on and harassing their non-Muslim classmates.

There have been reports of girls being bullied for dressing femininely and not wearing a headscarf; others have been called ‘pig-eaters,’ and are now wary of eating their sandwiches during break between lessons.

A father says he felt compelled to enrol his son in a new school because the old school made the mistake of concentrating many Muslim children in one class—with the result being that the few “non-believers” were bullied.
