New Canadian social-media platform Gander: Imagine Rachel Gilmore’s Boot Stamping On A Human Face Forever

Tech leaders ready launch of Canadian social-media platform Gander to buck U.S. dominance

A new social-media platform built by Canadians, for Canadians, and operated in Canada, will publicly launch in October with support from some of the most prominent names in the Canadian innovation sector.

Titled Gander Social Inc., the app was created by five Canadian co-founders who grew frustrated with the torrent of trolls, disinformation and divisive content they experienced on other platforms, largely owned by American tech giants.

This will be a “Canadian Awful” equivalent to BlueSky.

Gullible Europe has signed the death warrant for its own car industry

Despite flecks of optimism, the West has underestimated China’s long game

The auto industry gathers for its annual summit on Tuesday, hosted by trade group the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). But for some, the industry isn’t waving, but drowning.

“I don’t see a way back,” reckons Nick Molden, chief executive of Emissions Analytics and an honorary senior research fellow at Imperial College. “It’ s now about the funeral and the wake”.

The Government has made its mind up, he thinks – it’s not going to protect the UK auto industry from cheap Chinese auto imports, or abandon the all-electric dogma, and so the industry must deal with it.

Unmaking Whoopi

Whoopi Goldberg really stepped in it — just in time for last week’s Juneteenth federal holiday.

The aging, balding, previously-funny “comedienne” babbled wildly Wednesday on ABC’s far-Left “news” program, The View. During this daily hour of Anti-Trump Power, Goldberg questioned U.S. hostility to the Islamic Republic of Iran (even as President Donald J. Trump organized Saturday’s majestic act of gender-affirming care upon the mullahs’ atomic weapons program). Goldberg’s co-host, Alyssa Farah Griffin, an alumna of the Trump 45 White House, reminded her that “the Iranians literally throw gay people off of buildings. They don’t adhere to basic human rights.”

The Air India Bombing Is Not A Canadian Tragedy

Majority of Canadians say Air India bombing not treated like national tragedy: poll

Forty years after the Air India bombing, the worst terrorist attack in Canadian history, more than half of Canadians say that it has never been treated like a national tragedy.

On June 23, 1985, Canadian Sikh terrorists blew up a bomb aboard Air India Flight 182, en route from Montreal to London, with a final destination of Mumbai. The plane exploded over the Atlantic Ocean, killing all 329 people aboard. The debris washed up in Ireland.

Inside the Race to Save a Family Farm From Canada’s Wildfires

As Canada endures another heavy wildfire season, a group of resourceful farmers in British Columbia became an ad hoc fire brigade to help a neighbor.

Smoke was darkening the skies, and flames from an out-of-control wildfire ripping through this remote stretch of western Canada were creeping ominously close to the farm that has been in Jake van Angeren’s family for 70 years.

Official evacuation alerts had sounded in Goodlow, an agricultural community near Alberta in northeastern British Columbia, setting off a chain reaction among families who had packed their bags ready to be ordered to leave as wildfires this month swallowed up swaths of land.

Zuckerberg Leads AI Recruitment Blitz Armed With $100 Million Pay Packages

The smartest AI researchers and engineers have spent the past few months getting hit up by one of the richest men in the world.

Mark Zuckerberg is spending his days firing off emails and WhatsApp messages to the sharpest minds in artificial intelligence in a frenzied effort to play catch-up. He has personally reached out to hundreds of researchers, scientists, infrastructure engineers, product stars and entrepreneurs to try to get them to join a new Superintelligence lab he’s putting together.

Some of the people who have received the messages were so surprised they didn’t believe it was really Zuckerberg. One person assumed it was a hoax and didn’t respond for several days.

She waited 12 hours for Toronto police’s non-emergency line. Then, she was disconnected

Rachel Carr started losing hope after she hit the five-hour mark on hold with Toronto police’s non-emergency line, but couldn’t bring herself to hang up since she’d already waited for so long.

“I still had a glimmer of hope that maybe they would eventually pick up, but unfortunately it didn’t happen,” she said.

Instead, right as the call entered the 12th hour, Carr was disconnected, meaning she didn’t get to report that her and her husband’s vehicles had been badly keyed outside their home, resulting in what she estimates is around $8,000 in damage.

How entitled! It’s Pride Month and the TPS has it’s priorities.

Alexander Brown: The latest population numbers are slightly down—but Canadian workers should still be worried

Last week, former Immigration Minister Marc Miller talked about how the Trudeau government’s large-scale immigration—particularly in the aftermath of the pandemic—was responsible for a significant share of Canada’s recent GDP growth. It’s true, of course, but it fundamentally misunderstands the purpose of immigration policy itself. It isn’t to boost growth in the short term merely by adding more people. It’s to be additive to Canada’s economy and society over the long term. This includes Canadian workers.

Nolte: ‘Elio’ Hits All-Time Box Office Low for Pixar – Disney’s Fourth Bomb of 2025

The Disney Grooming Syndicate’s box office problems continued this week, now that Elio has won the distinction of earning the lowest box office opening of any movie in Pixar’s 30-year history.

With a catastrophic $22 million opening, Elio earned less than even Pixar’s very first feature, 1995’s Toy Story, which opened to $29.1 million.
