Given the wild trajectory of federal politics since the start of the year, with the Liberals rising an eye-popping 25 percentage points in the polls, you’d think Pierre Poilievre was running a fault-filled campaign. Talk last week of internal disarray at his campaign HQ fuelled the perception.

But it is hardly the case. A bad campaign would have resulted in fading and falling support for the Conservatives. But the party’s high support numbers have barely changed since the months before the campaign began. They are still hovering in the 40-per-cent neighbourhood, which is often enough to form a majority government.

That will be an uncontroversial proposition to anyone who draws distinctions between good-faith truth claims and instances of brazenly fabricated hogwash. It should be similarly uncontroversial by now to any reasonable person that U.S. president Donald Trump is either unwilling to draw such distinctions, or he’s congenitally incapable of doing so.

Hamas claims UK terror designation ‘breaches human rights’

Hamas is appealing against the UK government’s decision to designate it as a terror group by claiming that the ruling breaches the European Convention on Human Rights.

The organisation has instructed British lawyers to launch legal action in a bid to remove it from a Home Office list of terrorist organisations, which makes it a criminal offence to have any association or show support for the group in the UK.

England being England Hamas could win this case.

Murderous Mohamad the cross dresser will remain in men’s jail

A Quebecer who killed her spouse and two children will remain in a men’s prison, Canadian authorities said Wednesday.

Mohamad Al Ballouz, who now identifies as a woman, was sentenced last December after being convicted of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Synthia Bussières, 38, and of first-degree murder in the deaths of their two kids, aged five and two. The killings happened in September of 2022 in Brossard, on Montreal’s South Shore.

During the trial, Ballouz had been held at Leclerc Institution, a women’s detention centre in Laval, Que., and was later transferred to a men’s prison. The 38-year-old later requested to serve the sentence in a women’s prison.

West Yorkshire Police (WYP) is currently preventing white British candidates from applying for jobs as recruits to its police constable entry programmes. However, “under-represented” groups can lodge their applications early.

The process has raised concerns that white British candidates are being unfairly treated, amounting to a form of positive discrimination that could be potentially unlawful.
