Michelle Obama ‘checked out’ of DC as Trump inauguration looms

Former first lady Michelle Obama has reportedly ‘checked out’ of DC life after she decided to snub Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Sources close to the 61-year-old told Page Six that after she and husband Barack left the White House in 2017 she ‘checked out’ of DC politics.

Insiders say it has led to ‘nonstop chatter that Michelle is fed up with the political circus and pretending everything is OK with Barack all the time.’ The comments come amid swirling rumors that the former first couple’s relationship is on the rocks.

BC School Reopens Single-Sex Washrooms After Pushback From Parents

A British Columbia high school has reopened single-sex washrooms after originally leaving only gender-neutral options available to students, following an outcry from concerned parents.

The administration at Pleasant Valley Secondary School in Armstrong, B.C., has now designated two of its three newly opened gender-neutral washrooms as single-sex, in response to parents’ concerns about student privacy and safety.

Canadian survey finds worsening debt fears

The latest MNP Consumer Debt Index, conducted quarterly by Ipsos, dropped a staggering 10 points to 79 points, marking the second-lowest level on record since the Index’s inception in 2017.

Canadians’ personal debt rating has plunged to an all-time low, marking a sharp 12-point decline from the previous quarter. The previous record low was set in December 2022.

No more DEI or ESG: alphabet soup is off the menu in Trump’s USA

The president-elect has prompted a backlash against boardroom virtue signalling and diversity phrases

Asked to describe the vibe shift on Wall Street since Donald Trump’s re-election last November, a senior hedge fund manager replies simply with a link to Landman, a new drama series on the Paramount+ streaming service.

Starring Billy Bob Thornton and Jon Hamm, and released just under a fortnight after Trump’s resounding victory, it follows the boom-time skirmishing of wildcat oil explorers in West Texas — think Mad Men for fossil fuels.

In a New Age of Empire, Great Powers Aim to Carve Up the Planet

In 1945, the victorious Allied powers gathered in San Francisco to draft a charter for the United Nations, the foundation of a new global order that would make another world war impossible. The charter proclaimed that all countries had equal rights and would no longer resort to “the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.” President Harry Truman told the assembled delegates that “the responsibility of the great states is to serve, and not to dominate, the peoples of the world,”

Rick Levine Leaves Office Claiming He’s an Admiral, a Woman and Fires are Caused by Global Warming

The very real state of contemporary identity politics.

Dr. Rick Levine, who likes to go by ‘Rachel’ and ‘Admiral’, and was made Assistant Health Secretary and an admiral by the Biden administration (which still couldn’t make him a woman) was deemed worthy of a high-profile exit interview at Politico since he will now leave office to pursue whatever it is men in admiral and female drag do.

Black Coal, White Guilt: Mining the Dark Depths of ‘Anti-Racist’ Geology

Racist rock – I dunno, it could be Linus from the Great Pumpkin.

Back in the days when I was at school, we used to study a subject called ‘Human Geography’ which taught us all about mankind’s impact on the environment, in terms of the effects of creating and maintaining cities, industry and farmlands. Recently, the amused British media discovered there was an entirely new geographical subdiscipline now available to students instead, called ‘Inhuman Geography’, whose first known professor, Kathryn Yusoff, is currently employed at the (formerly) prestigious Queen Mary University of London.

Will China go to war with Trump?

It’s still before dawn when hundreds of Chinese missiles begin to rain down on Taiwan. Much of the self-governing island’s air and naval forces are obliterated in a matter of minutes. Chinese special forces storm the residence and offices of the Taiwanese president, executing the “decapitation strike” they’ve trained for years to carry out. Swarms of aircraft and drones pound Taiwanese defences, as up to 50,000 People’s Liberation Army (PLA) paratroopers descend on the island, attempting a blitz assault to capture landing zones for a helicopter-borne second wave before making a drive for the beaches.

Hundreds of thousands of PLA troops are about to make landfall in the largest amphibious operation since D-Day. The long-anticipated invasion of Taiwan has begun.

The proof that lockdown critics were ‘debanked’ because of their views

PayPal has admitted that a prominent children’s rights campaigner was “debanked” during the pandemic after speaking out against school closures and mandatory vaccines.

The US online payments giant told Molly Kingsley, founder of the parent campaign group UsForThem, that her account had been terminated in September 2022 owing to “the nature of its activities”.

Hers was one of a handful of accounts that were frozen by PayPal, all of which belonged to individuals or organisations that questioned the government’s policies during the pandemic.

‘Discovered’ diaries of British socialite Unity Mitford reveal Hitler relationship

The diaries of an antisemitic British socialite who was obsessed with Adolf Hitler and struck up a personal relationship with the Nazi leader have been discovered, according to the Daily Mail.

The leather-bound journals, which had been lost to historians and unseen for eight decades, appear to reveal the extent of Unity Mitford’s relationship with the dictator.

Despite the infamous “Hitler diaries” incident, in which Sunday Times journalists were duped into publishing forged accounts, several historians believe this discovery is genuine.

The Mitford sisters would be ardent Trudeau supporters I suspect.

Johnson: Here’s When I Knew Biden Wasn’t Running Anything

Good to know, but it prompts a big question. And Mike Johnson has no good answer for it.

As the House Speaker tells Bari Weiss in a live interview for The Free Press, Johnson considers Joe Biden the worst president in US history. It’s not just the policies or the actions that drive that assessment, Johnson explains, but the fact that Biden clearly had no idea what was going on in his own administration — or even what Biden’s own executive orders said and did.

And Justin said there was no business case for shipping LNG to Europe. Who was pulling their strings?

McTEAGUE: Carney launches his crusade against the oilpatch

Well, he finally did it.

After literally years of rumours that he was preparing to run for parliament and being groomed as Justin Trudeau’s successor.

After he, reportedly, agreed to take over Chrystia Freeland’s job as Finance Minister in December, only to then, reportedly, pull back once her very public and pointed resignation made the job too toxic for someone with his ambitions.

Conrad Black: Carney isn’t an outsider — he’s a dyed-in-the-wool liberal like Trudeau

The Liberal leadership race is now shaping up as a contest between Chrystia Freeland and Mark Carney. Freeland represents the tradition of the senior colleague of the outgoing leader seeking the succession: Louis St. Laurent, Lester Pearson, John Turner, Jean Chrétien, Paul Martin. Mark Carney is in the tradition of comparative newcomers: the Trudeaus, Stéphane Dion, Michael Ignatieff. But they are seeking the leadership of a government that will be trying for a fourth consecutive election. Only Macdonald, Laurier and King- St. Laurent managed that and they were much more distinguished governments. (The case could be made that Lester Pearson and Pierre Trudeau won five consecutive elections between 1963 and 1974, but they were short terms, three were minorities and one was effectively a draw.) The vital signs of the present government are flickering and the flight of potentially presentable leaders away from this contest is surely indicative of the government’s poor reelection prospects rather than of any sudden evaporation of career ambition by other potential contenders.

Trump’s 100 Executive Orders: Get Ready for ‘Shock and Awe’ on Day One

President-elect Trump has set out an ambitious goal to enact 100 executive orders, according to reports — or, in some cases, less formal executive actions — in just his first day in office, which begins on Monday.

Dubbed by Team Trump as a “shock and awe” campaign, Trump’s executive orders and actions will reportedly range from the border and immigration to the economy and energy, as well as tackling cultural issues, so many, in fact, that he joked during the campaign that he wants a “tiny desk” at the Capitol, the site of the swearing in, where he can sit and sign orders.

Prime Minister Carney? Canada deserves better than this progressive twerp

Spare a thought for beleaguered Canadians who have had to endure a decade of Justin Trudeau, only to discover Mark Carney is now running to replace him.

It was bad enough that the Canadian Prime Minister, who announced resignation earlier this month, presided over the gradual destruction of Canada’s economy, immigration system and international standing. But now Canadians are facing the prospect of someone even more smug and incompetent (if that’s possible) taking his place.
