Not yet president, Donald Trump still weighs heavily on Liberal leadership race

OTTAWA — He is not a Canadian and he is certainly not a Liberal, but U.S. president-elect Donald Trump has had a huge influence on the race to replace Justin Trudeau.

Before the end of the weekend, the Liberal leadership field should be set. Former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney announced Thursday that he would seek the job of party leader and prime minister. Government House Leader Karina Gould is expected to announce her bid this weekend, and former finance minster Chrystia Freeland announced her candidacy on social media Friday morning, saying she was “running to fight for Canada.”

What gall.

Will the Left Disrupt the Inauguration?

Left-wing radicals have been mobilizing near the nation’s capital ahead of the January 20 inauguration, which has been moved indoors. Since summer, we have tracked D.C.’s radical networks—their movements, methods, and potential for violence. After George Floyd’s death in 2020, these groups learned that street protests could yield political gains. Now, with Donald Trump returning to the White House, they’re weighing their options.

Jill Biden: The Worst First Lady Ever

To put it bluntly, Jill Biden’s time as first lady has been a complete train wreck.

Even Jill Biden is on the verge of admitting it. In a full-ranging interview with the Washington Post this week, the first lady confessed, “Let’s just say I was disappointed with how it unfolded” — with “it” being her and Joe’s time in the White House.

When prompted to answer why she felt that way, Jill vaguely said: “I don’t know. I learned a lot about human nature.”

The Star’s Fainting Couch Is Occupied

Elon Musk has Donald Trump’s ear and a new-found interest in Canada. How much should we worry?

OTTAWA — Donald Trump’s return to the White House on Monday has already proven to be a thorn in the side of Canadian officials, but his second presidency brings additional baggage for Canada: Elon Musk.
The close adviser to Trump, owner of the social media platform X and richest man on Earth has a new-found interest in Canada, a ratio of five X followers for every Canadian and the stamina to post dozens of times a day. And he’s not afraid to dish out his political opinions online.

All of these TDS Patriots were silent as Trudeau flooded Canada with incompatible cultures causing irreparable harm to society.

Iran’s Mullahs: Will the EU Ever Wake Up?

Even though Iran keeps increasing its military support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — posing a significant threat to the European Union, the EU policy of appeasing the mullahs persists.

The EU blithely continues to trade with Iran, the top state sponsor of terrorism. The Tehran Times bragged in a recent report that the country’s exports to the EU have increased by 28% in just 9 months…

Universities face ‘across the board’ cuts in wake of international student cap

OTTAWA – Canadian colleges and universities are responding to a cash crunch brought on by Ottawa’s cut to international student permits with layoffs, hiring freezes and service reductions, say people in the post-secondary education sector.

A year ago, the federal government announced a 35 per cent reduction in study permits — bringing the number down to an estimated 360,000 for 2024 — one of the first major reductions in Canada’s permanent and temporary immigration targets.

Good, we should hope for bankruptcies and closures as well.

Washington Post economics columnist Catherine Rampell lashed out Thursday afternoon at SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly and blamed her for threats and ugly words being hurled her way after Kelly shelled her for smearing Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth as merely a “TV host” and thus tossing aside his 20 years of boots-on-the-ground military service.

CHARLEBOIS: Canada lets Cherry Blossom melt away

This week, Hershey quietly announced the discontinuation of Cherry Blossom, a cherished chocolate treat and, in essence, a Canadian icon.

While the news has been met with a mix of nostalgia and indifference, the end of Cherry Blossom marks yet another chapter in the ongoing challenges facing food manufacturing in Canada.

I certainly ate a few of these over the years. It was one of those odd cravings.

However it has been too long to remember since I have had one. Oversweet for sure.

Bittersweet end.

Here are the famed movie and TV locations destroyed in the Southern California fires

With its intricate, carved-wood paneling and diamond-shaped glass panes, location scout Lori Balton thought the smoking room of the historic Andrew McNally House was just glorious.

The distinctive look of the Altadena mansion, built in 1887 for the co-founder of maps and atlas firm Rand McNally Publishing, made it a favorite for filming. The Queen Anne-style home appeared in the HBO series “Entourage,” among other productions.
