San Fran store sues over deteriorating conditions

Out in San Francisco, things have not been going well at the massive Westfield Mall, to put it mildly. As with most of the rest of the city – and all of California’s larger cities, really – conditions have become untenable for most retailers. Rampant retail theft and filthy conditions have made the mall far less safe and have driven away potential shoppers, causing sales to sag. One of the few larger stores that haven’t thrown in the towel yet is American Eagle Outfitters, the iconic clothing shop.

Terry Glavin: Chong lauded by U.S. lawmakers while a scolded Trudeau has wings clipped

It made for quite the study in contrasts.

Conservative MP Michael Chong was applauded by a bipartisan committee of U.S. lawmakers in Washington, D.C., this week for standing up for China’s persecuted Uyghurs and for shining a light on Beijing’s concerted strategy of harassment, intimidation, influence-peddling and political interference in Canada.

Canada needs 3.45 million more homes by 2030 to cut housing costs as population grows, CMHC predicts

… The 3.45 million new units across the country would be in addition to the 1.68 million that are expected to be built by 2030 if the pace of construction remains the same. That would amount to a total of 5.2-million new housing units and comes as the federal government has faced increased criticism for ramping up immigration targets without an apparent consideration for housing needs.

That ain’t gonna happen.

Canada still needs another 3.5 million housing units by 2030 on top of what it’s on track to build by that point, a new report says.

But an economist for the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. (CMHC), which authored the report, says this goal may not even be attainable.

Canada’s Immigration Boom May Be Ending, Permanent Resident Applications Plummet

Canada’s recent population boom seems like it’ll last forever, but reality may arrive soon. Government of Canada (GoC) data reveals a sharp drop in permanent resident applications in July. The direct impact on population growth is minor, since temporary residents drive growth. However, continuing to attract temporary residents will be difficult once they encounter the conditions turning people away.

There has been an ongoing years long decline in the number of permanent resident applicants. Trudeau’s incompetence is turning Canada into a shithole state.

Democrats Should Not Be So Confident the Biden Impeachment Inquiry Will Be a Bust

Following the news that Speaker Kevin McCarthy has lent his imprimatur to an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden, Pennsylvania senator John Fetterman summed up the conventional wisdom to which Democratic partisans are partial in his reliably theatrical and sophomoric style. Pretending to reel from the news, the senator clutched his head in feigned shock. “It’s devastating,” he scoffed, quaking dramatically. “Please don’t do it.”

Ukraine inflicts biggest blow yet on Russian’s Black Sea ships

Ukraine targeted Russian navy vessels and port infrastructure in Sevastopol in its biggest attack yet on the home of the Kremlin’s Black Sea fleet.

Ukraine said it launched ten cruise missiles at the Sevmorzavod shipyard — often used to fire missiles at Ukrainian cities — and three maritime drones at Russian ships in the Black Sea. Video posted online showed flames engulfing the naval facility in the Crimean port.

To hell with woke publishers

The gatekeepers of the creative industry are riddled with a nasty strain of identity politics.

ASH Literary is on the hunt for budding children’s book authors. ‘We are actively seeking voices that have historically been underrepresented’, the submissions section of the agency’s website tells us. ‘For example, we are not interested in stories about white, able-bodied [Second World War] evacuees, but would welcome that story from a disabled, LGBTQ+ or BIPOC [black, indigenous or people of colour] perspective’, it explains.

Dutch police have threatened to report parents for taking their children to Extinction Rebellion protests

Extinction Rebellion should leave kids alone

Greta Thunberg Climate Hysteria Puppet

My son’s class is studying climate change this term. At dinner the other night he announced with a certain relish that in 300 years’ time, both our house and the school would be submerged beneath the English Channel, as the oceans rise and the impressive-seeming sea defences visible from our front door are exposed as mere pitiful hubris. A terrifying prospect, but I’ll keep paying the mortgage all the same. Don’t meet trouble halfway and all that.

We’ll support you in sacred fight, Kim tells Putin

North Korea’s Kim Jong-un offered President Putin his full support for what he called Russia’s “sacred fight” against the West as the two leaders met.

The pair finally met and shook hands at Russia’s remote Vostochny Cosmodrome, some 900 miles from where the Russian president was attending an economic forum at the port of Vladivostok. The North Korean leader had been travelling from the beginning of the week for the meeting.
