Pakistani doctor who sought to support Islamic State terror group sentenced in Minnesota to 18 years

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Pakistani doctor and former Mayo Clinic research coordinator who sought to join the Islamic State terrorist group to fight in Syria and expressed interest in carrying out attacks on U.S. soil was sentenced Friday to 18 years in prison.

Muhammad Masood, 31, pleaded guilty a year ago to attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. Prosecutors said he attempted unsuccessfully to travel from the U.S. to Syria via Jordan in 2020, then agreed to fly from Minneapolis to Los Angeles to meet up with someone he thought would help him travel by cargo ship to IS territory.

CRA still missing targets for call wait times, despite $400-million boost in funding

A run-in with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) can be taxing in the best circumstances, but the real test of a Canadian’s patience could come during the wait to speak with an agent on the phone.

As of the end of July, the CRA’s call centres were hitting their target of getting to a caller within 15 minutes or less only 31 per cent of the time, the agency told CTVNews.ca. This is compared to a service standard goal of 65 per cent of calls.

I had to deal with the CRA on behalf of both Mom and Kathy’s estate. This involved a number of calls for each, a wait of half an hour would have been welcome.

I routinely spent up to 3 hours in “line” and once had the call disconnected when I was finally connected to a live agent.

My experience dealing with CRA staff has been good, even excellent with rare exception.

Migrant smugglers boast on social media how EASY it is to cross the border in confronting clip showing long line of men entering the U.S

Migrant smugglers were seen boasting how easy it is to illegally cross the border into America in a confronting clip showing a long line of men entering the U.S. smiling and waving at the camera.

The alarming footage, filmed on May 27 near Lukeville, Arizona, reveals a long line of migrant men casually climbing through a gap in the US-Mexico border wall and meeting no resistance or questioning.

A caption in Spanish accompanying the video reads: ‘Achieving their goals, the gents’ followed by two prayer emojis. Text overlaid on the video also describes the crossing as a ‘desert adventure.’

The science behind the Fukushima waste water release

Godzilla and The Monsters of Nuclear War

Japan has begun releasing treated radioactive water from its damaged Fukushima power plant into the Pacific Ocean – 12 years after a nuclear meltdown.

That’s despite China slapping a ban on Japanese seafood and protests in Japan itself and South Korea.

The UN’s atomic regulator says the water will have “negligible” radiological impact on people and the environment.

But is it safe?

Sabrina Maddeaux: Toronto, the city of government gaslighting

Transparency from all levels of Canadian government has rarely, if ever, been murkier. A group of nonprofits including the Centre for Law and Democracy and Centre for Free Expression recently went so far as to submit a complaint to the United Nations about the federal government’s infringements upon Canadians’ right to information.

Our political class needs dismantling.

42% of wildfire evacuations occur in Indigenous communities, researcher

While wildfire season and evacuation alerts have become par for the course for many communities across Canada, for Indigenous people its far too frequent.

“It’s a really disproportionate impact when Indigenous people only make up 5 per cent of the population in Canada but 42 per cent of wildfire evacuation events occur in their communities,” said Amy Cardinal Christianson, a Métis fire research scientist. “A lot of that is because of where Indigenous communities are located.”

If paper straws are bad for the planet, what else aren’t they telling us?

Last weekend I hoped to give my daughter one of the formative experiences of any British childhood: her first Capri Sun. The orange squash, packed in a space-age foil pouch, has been a feature of lunch boxes for more than 50 years. As she looked on expectantly, I took the straw from the side of the packet and went to pierce the hole with the sharp end.

Media giant Gannett sued by workers over ‘reverse racism’ policy that boosts women and minorities over others

A group of current and former employees of Gannet is suing the media giant, saying they were fired or lost out on promotions to make room for less-qualified women and minorities.

The five staffers say they suffered from the firm’s diversity hiring policy, which was introduced in 2020 to get newsrooms looking more like the communities they served within five years.

It’s the latest in a series of lawsuits and actions to take aim at ‘reverse racism’ in corporate America.

Guilbeault heeds call to kiss Xi Jinping’s ass brushes off opposition calls to cancel China climate trip

Steven Guilbeault Enjoys Kissing Xi Jinpings Ass

Canada’s environment minister travels to China today to attend diplomatic meetings with an international group that advises Beijing on climate change — and he’s ignoring opposition calls for him to quit the group and call out China over human rights abuses and alleged interference in Canadian elections.

Steven Guilbeault is attending the annual general meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), along with representatives of the United Nations, from Aug. 28 to 30 in Beijing.

In an interview with CBC News before his departure, Guilbeault stopped short of committing to bringing up China’s interference in Canadian democracy and its human rights record during his trip.

Give credit to to the ChiComs they own the Liberal Party. No other nation runs cover for China’s greenscam better than Canada thanks to the Liberal party.

More trouble in the polls for Justin Trudeau, Liberals

The polling numbers for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau continue to look worse, and some experts think he may soon hit a point where he has to seriously consider his future.

The latest Abacus Data survey has his Liberal Party trailing the Conservatives by 12 points, with 56 per cent of respondents saying it’s time for the prime minister to step down.

“You don’t want to be the guy that turned the whole thing into a failure,” Barry McLoughlin, president of TLC Transformational Leadership Consultants Inc., said.

Pakistani police have said that they are close to finding the family of a British 10-year-old girl who went on the run a day before detectives discovered her body.

For two weeks, the father, stepmother and uncle of Sara Sharif have eluded officers searching for them within the country’s vast Punjab province.

However, their time may soon be running out after a police chief revealed that they are “on course” to find her father, Urfan Sharif, 41, his partner Beinish Batool, 29, and Mr Sharif’s brother Faisal Malik, 28.

The housing crisis in Canada is getting desperate. Prices for purchases and rentals are skyrocketing across the country and it’s becoming a hot political issue. Young people and citizens on fixed incomes are particularly vulnerable as the cost of living rises. As counterintuitive as it may sound, the Liberal government may be considering imposing an equity tax on primary residences to deal with housing costs.
