Chicago sues automakers over cars being stolen

Brandon Johnson – Looting Enthusiast

For several years now, Chicago’s spiraling crime rates have featured a shocking increase in the number of vehicular thefts and carjackings. The Chicago Police Department recorded an increase in car thefts from 9,000 to 21,000 in just the past three years. Among the most popular cars to steal are Kias and Hyundais, possibly because they are the easiest to break into and drive away.

Conspiracy theories swirl around wildfires amid record season in Canada

Canada’s current wildfire season is devastating evidence of the effects of climate change, scientists say, but for some conspiracy theorists, the thousands of square kilometres of burnt ground isn’t enough to convince them.

Instead, space lasers, arsonists and government plots to restrict people’s movement are some of the causes of the fires, according to fringe online circles. But despite being fringe, these theories are widely circulated and boosted by social media algorithms.

Hunter Biden Probe: House Republicans Compile Videos That Show ‘16 Times That Joe Biden Lied’ About Son, Family Business

The House Oversight Committee has released a compilation of videos that purportedly show President Biden making false statements about his knowledge of his son Hunter’s foreign business dealings. The committee’s presentation includes extensive evidence that the president dined with his son’s benefactors from Russia and Central Asia and spoke with his son’s business partners on speakerphone at least 20 times.

Randall Denley: Time for Ford to act on Ontario’s reliance on international students for post-secondary funding

A light bulb has finally come on in Justin Trudeau’s cabinet. Dim though that bulb may be, it has sufficient power to illuminate a glaring weakness in how Ontario funds post-secondary education.

Sean Fraser, the new federal housing minister, offered the opinion this week that the 807,260 international students in Canada are putting pressure on the Canadian housing market. That’s not terribly surprising, since the number of international students has more than doubled since the Liberals took power. It’s also a problem that Fraser failed to address when he was immigration minister.

While it’s gratifying to see the federal Liberals tentatively identifying a link between the number of people flowing into the country and the shortage of housing, it’s Ontario Premier Doug Ford who really has to wake up.

The foreign student scam is harming Canadian citizens.

Are our politicians so dim they didn’t see that coming or are they just malevolent destroyers?

We need to close a lot of these woke universities. They are toxic.

The FBI likely has a case file on Oliver Anthony already, whistleblower says

Oliver Anthony’s “Rich Men North of Richmond” is the most talked about song in America.

Released just this month, the blue-collar tune is already approaching 40 million views on YouTube and landed on top of Billboard’s Hot 100 on Tuesday, making Anthony the first musician ever to hit No. 1 with no previous chart history. It was even the subject of the first question at the Republican presidential primary debate on Wednesday.

Slavery Accusations: Dundas Relative on Mission to Clear Name of 18th-Century Statesman

The pushback against renaming Toronto’s Dundas Street gained momentum recently after three former mayors spoke out in opposition to it, and a distant relative of Henry Dundas has renewed hope the proposal will be scrapped.

Jennifer Dundas, a retired crown prosecutor and former CBC reporter, has spent years reading through scholarly articles, books, official records, and journal entries related to the prominent British politician Henry Dundas (1742–1811).

Anthony Furey: Why the Jordan Peterson Ruling Should Concern Us All

A new court ruling in Ontario has set a troubling precedent that could put all professionals in the province at risk of censure for making online political comments completely unrelated to their work.

That’s the implication of an Ontario Superior Court ruling concerning a dispute between popular author and psychologist Jordan Peterson and the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO).

Hollywood homeless crisis escalates

As rampant homelessness continues to plague the streets and neighborhoods of Los Angeles, a new video sheds light on the issue as it impacts LA’s iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The video, taken earlier this summer, shows dozens of homeless people collapsed and prostrated on the streets of Hollywood, laying on public benches, and lining the streets with makeshift tents.

‘Hidden between the glitz and glamor, homelessness has cast a shadow over the streets,’ says the video’s narrator, as he walks around the neighborhood.

William Watson: Of course we have a rental crisis. Who would want to be a landlord?

You must pay the rent! I can’t pay the rent! You must pay the rent! I can’t pay the rent!

The internet tells me this classic confrontation between a greedy landlord and a penniless young damsel dates back at least to an 1867 play called “Under the Gaslight.” (Gaslight, indeed!) We boomers had it embedded in our consciousness by the cartoon series “Rocky and Bullwinkle,” which several subsequent generations have probably seen in re-runs.

Don’t believe the renewables myth. Wind and solar are not cheap

Abandoned wind turbines California

Politicians everywhere are repeating the mantra that renewable energy is cheap, and we need to use it instead of gas (currently expensive in and near Europe) to bring down energy costs for households.

As US President Joe Biden said of clean energy before signing the poetically named Executive Actions on Tackling Climate Change, Creating Jobs, and Restoring Scientific Integrity “it’s affordable; because it’s clean; because, in many cases, it’s cheaper… [clean technologies] will ultimately become cheaper than any other kind of energy, helping us dramatically expand our economy and create more jobs with a cleaner, cleaner environment”.

The Inflation Reduction Act has been designed to make this a reality. Lots of investment in lovely green energy and green jobs. This sounds wonderful.

Unfortunately, renewables are not cheap.

Justin Trudeau should step down before next election, majority of survey respondents say

OTTAWA — Most Canadians — and many past Liberal supporters — think Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should resign instead of leading his party into the next federal election, a new poll suggests.

Fifty-six per cent of respondents to the latest national survey from Abacus Data said Trudeau “should step down” when asked if he should run for office again. That’s compared with 27 per cent who said Trudeau should stay, and 17 per cent who were not sure.

Beware the creeping return of mask mandates

This week a handful of American schools, businesses and healthcare facilities re-imposed mask mandates and other Covid safety policies. This provided an opportunity for lobby groups and our new Covid safety subculture to advocate for the return of the “new normal” media narrative: a “surging” virus is meeting a “complacent” population that will need to be “nudged” to do the “right thing”.
