On his own podcast – everyone has a podcast these days – Simmons said Spotify should have called their pod with H&M ‘The Fucking Grifters’. He also threatened to get drunk one day and blab about the time he tried to help witless Harry with a podcast idea – ‘It’s one of my best stories’. ‘Fuck them. The grifters’, he said.

Journalist Defends Reporting on Election Interference

A journalist whose reporting helped raise concerns about possible Chinese meddling in Canadian democracy told a committee of MPs on June 20 that he stands by his work.

Sam Cooper, who recently left Global News to start his own online news site, told MPs that other countries, such as Australia and the United Kingdom, have faced similar disclosures about Chinese attempts to influence elections, and have followed up with laws designed to counter foreign interference.

But in Canada, said Cooper, that has not happened.

“Hello, Chinese friends,” the soldier in Ukraine tells his admirers many thousands of miles away. “I’m from Chechnya, Russia. Behind me is a nuclear power plant in Ukraine. We just conquered this place and caught some big fish. One of them was a US consultant.”

The bearded man, who just happened to speak Mandarin, soon became a social media sensation on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, popping up across Ukraine to issue regular updates from the battlefield. “Salute. The red flag stands tall, Huzzah,” he says in another video from the front line, in front of a car. “The extended Lincoln behind me is Zelensky’s car that we’ve seized.”

New footage circulating online appears to show U.S. volunteers fighting Russian troops in Ukraine under near-constant mortar fire.

The footage shows soldiers advancing through a smoke-filled urban area with visibly damaged buildings. Faces captured in the footage have been blurred, but dialogue and what appear to be American accents can be heard over the sound of firing in the clips.

‘Don’t become a target’ of Chinese intelligence, CSIS warns Canadians

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) issued a rare public warning Tuesday detailing how it says China’s intelligence service is targeting and recruiting Canadian citizens to supply information to Beijing.

The allegation comes as Canada continues to reckon with Chinese interference in the country, which has ranged from allegations of meddling in elections to using so-called “police stations” to monitor and threaten Chinese nationals or those with family in China.

Hi Felicia — famed for its $195 tasting menu and “vulgar fine dining” — was created to be woke and “radically inclusive” but its owner, Imana, didn’t always promote those values according to former employees who spoke to the San Francisco Chronicle.

One employee named Dawn, a cook who identifies as non-binary, said they felt harassed after Imana allegedly made several comments about their body and genitalia, and said she was attracted to them.

‘Monstrous murder’: 41 women killed in Honduras prison riot

At least 41 women have been killed – some of them burned to death – after an outbreak of violence between gangs at a prison in Honduras.

Authorities found dozens of bodies after the violence on Tuesday at the prison in Tamara, about 30 miles (50km) north-west of the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa, said Yuri Mora, spokesperson for the national police investigation agency.

Some of the victims had been shot to death, and at least seven female inmates were being treated at a Tegucigalpa hospital for gunshot and knife wounds, employees there said.

BlackRock, JP Morgan set up ‘reconstruction bank’ for Ukraine

BlackRock and JPMorgan Chase are reportedly aiding the Ukrainian government in setting up a reconstruction bank that could see rebuilding projects being heavily invested in by private entities. The Financial Times noted that it would cost Ukraine roughly $411 billion to rebuild their country amid the onslaught of attacks by Russia, but the cost is continuing to increase.

From the unwieldly field of 102 candidates, six have emerged with well-considered remedies for what ails Toronto, and each are unique: Brad Bradford’s insider knowledge of the planning process, Mark Saunders’ pitch for improved mental health services, Olivia Chow’s record of championing progressive issues, Mitzie Hunter’s detailed platform and costing, and Josh Matlow’s meaty policy proposals and budget honesty. They all deserve applause for the energy and ideas they have brought to this race.

They’ve done nothing but pump Chow. Maybe they realize she was Beijing’s man.

Titanic sub search: underwater noises picked up by Canadian plane, US Coast Guard says

Canadian aircraft detected underwater noises in the search area for the missing Titan submersible, the US Coast Guard said early on Wednesday, amid US media reports that regular banging sounds had been picked up.

The discovery on Tuesday led search teams to relocate their underwater robotic search operations “in an attempt to explore the origin of the noises”, the Coast Guard said in a series of tweets. The searches by remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) came up empty-handed but would continue, the Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard did not state the nature or extent of the sounds, or how they were picked up.

TikTok video, explosive-making instructions at centre of Calgarian’s terrorism charges: court docs

A 20-year-old Calgary man facing terrorism charges is accused of posting a video to TikTok that facilitated and contributed to ISIS and al-Qaeda activities, court documents reveal.

Zakarya Hussein is also accused of creating and possessing instructions on how to make explosives.

Hussein was charged Friday with four offences: two counts each of facilitating a terrorist activity and participating in or contributing to a terrorist group activity.
