The West’s Last Chance?

Has it already passed?

Those who make a business of projecting trends often neglect the acceleration factor. The march of history may be usefully described as “slowly” followed by “suddenly.” Yet we are rarely prepared for those times when history seems to “speed up,” and decades of change are compressed into years or even months. We assume that current trends will continue, and we are surprised when they don’t.

Today’s fourth and final piece details what life is like in jail for these two alleged child rapists each facing over nine life sentences.

A slow painful death would still be merciful.

Kesha Hamilton has written a series of inflammatory posts on the social media site claiming whiteness was ‘synonymous with racism’ and urging people to ‘be safe’ around ‘white folks’.

When guns are controlled do killers switch to knives?

Last September, Myles Sanderson stabbed and killed 11 people and injured 18 in several locations in Saskatchewan. Then in October Shaelyn Yang, an RCMP officer, was fatally stabbed in Burnaby , British Columbia. Reading about these tragic events, I found myself wondering whether stabbings in Canada are taking the place of shootings as ever more legislation and enforcement make guns more difficult to own and buy.

John Ivison: The $15 billion experiment Ottawa can’t afford to mess up

OTTAWA — The old joke is that at roll call, senators don’t know whether to shout “present” or “not guilty.” Very little happens in that sleepy sinecure that reaches the outside world.

Yet over Christmas, a clip from the Senate finance committee started circulating of Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland being grilled by Conservative Sen. Elizabeth Marshall, a former provincial auditor general in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Mexican Officials and Witnesses Recount Gunbattle That Captured Son of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán

JESÚS MARÍA, Mexico—In the predawn hours of Jan. 5, hundreds of Sinaloa cartel gunmen raced to this dusty town to try to rescue their boss from Mexican soldiers who had laid siege to his ranch, according to residents, gang members and Mexico’s military.

But the small army of gunmen proved no match for Mexico’s military, which used gunships to strafe the convoy of pickup trucks rigged with makeshift armor and high-caliber guns in the capture of Ovidio Guzmán, the son of former Sinaloa cartel boss Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, witnesses said.

Court rules Canada must bring back idiot convert Jihadi Jack Letts from Syrian prison camp because the Brits were smart and stripped him of citizenship

The ruling applies to four Canadian men who are being held in the camps.

One of those men is Jack Letts, a Canadian citizen who fled his home in England in 2014, when he was 17, to travel to Syria, resulting in the United Kingdom revoking his British citizenship.
His family says they have no evidence that he was a member of a terrorist group.

The jerk’s Dad was born here but Jihadi Jack spent only about 5 minutes in Canada his entire life. The Brits were smart and stripped the parasite of citizenship.

Jack’s parents were convicted of aiding a terrorist after being caught sending their little jerk money.

The evil little bastard knew exactly what he was doing – “I volunteered for a suicide bombing, Jihadi Jack admits”

Jack Letts has told how he wanted to be a suicide bomber for Islamic State as he admitted fighting with the terrorists.

“I know I was definitely an enemy of Britain,” he told the BBC in an interview recorded in October and released yesterday. “I did what I did. I made a big mistake and that’s what happened. I thought I was leaving something behind and going to something better.”

Oh but then he had a change of heart… When ISIS started to lose.

Turkish Islamists, especially neo-Ottomans, have historically hated Russia — both Czarist and Soviet. Similarly, Russians and Soviets have never been great fans of the Turks — both Ottoman and republican. Today, however, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, with a big foot in NATO, is exhibiting a pro-Russian tilt never seen before, and at a time when Russian President Vladimir Putin is seen as an existential threat to Western interests. What is the secret behind this sudden marriage?

For Putin, Erdoğan’s friendship is growing ever more important — and vice versa.

Alberta premier’s office contacted Crown prosecution about Coutts cases: sources

A staffer in Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s office sent a series of emails to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service, challenging prosecutors’ assessment and direction on cases stemming from the Coutts border blockades and protests, CBC News has learned.

The emails were sent last fall, according to sources who CBC has agreed not to identify because they fear they could lose their jobs.

Soon after being elected leader of the United Conservative Party and sworn in as premier, Smith’s office asked for a briefing on the cases. Subsequent emails critiqued the prosecutors’ assessment of the charges and pushed back on the characterizations of the protest.
