Japan is at risk of losing the race in all-electric vehicles (EVs). And that poses a danger for southern Ontario, with its three Japanese auto plants.
Among the 35 models in Bloomberg’s latest ranking of the best performing EVs only three are Japanese vehicles.
Toyota Motor Corp., the world’s biggest automaker, concentrates on hybrid vehicles, which it pioneered with the first gas-electric Prius a quarter of a century ago. As do most Japanese automakers.
Bear in mind that Toyota among others are not sold on EV’s as the future. No one should be, that is no one who hopes to own a personal vehicle. EV’s are a pipe dream.
Toyota’s CEO Still Not Sold on EVs
Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda is still pushing his company’s interest in hybrids and hydrogen. And he says many in the industry agree with him.
The Trudeau government has been running around throwing money at virtually anything that has an Electric-La-La-Land sticker on it.
We’re late to the EV game but that may be a blessing assuming saner heads prevail and recognize that EV’s are nothing but a con job.
I have a sinking feeling that the only carbon reduction Canada will see thanks to Justin’s nonsense will be all that cash leaving the country.

Alec Baldwin’s “recklessness”, and the failure of his production team to follow basic gun safety procedures on the set of the movie Rust, led to the decision to file a criminal charge against the US actor in the death of a cinematographer, prosecutors said.
Mary Carmack-Altwies, the Santa Fe district attorney, said Baldwin, and the movie’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, violated “all of the standards that we all have to follow if we have a gun in our hands” in the shooting death of Halyna Hutchins with a prop weapon during a rehearsal in New Mexico in 2021.

Retail thefts have ballooned in the last few years, creating a multi-billion problem for retailers and forcing companies to take drastic action to protect from lost profits.
Numerous pharmacies, grocery stores and other retailers have shortened store hours or been forced to close permanently as locked-up merchandise becomes commonplace to protect against shoplifters and smash-and-grab thieves.

After breaking away from decades of cosy relationships with Moscow, Germany is reluctant to unilaterally escalate for the war in Ukraine
There is one question everyone wants answering on the war in Ukraine: will Germany ‘release the Leopards’?
The answer, at this stage, appears to be a resounding no.
Olaf Scholz, the German Chancellor, is the politician tasked with making or breaking the dreams of Ukrainians on the front lines.
Only he can approve the export of Leopard II held by Germany and its allies to Kyiv.
It seems a strange allegiance… Majority Of Western Companies Doing Business As Usual In Russia Are German, Study Finds

Everywhere Justin Long goes, Ottawa’s so-called “Freedom Convoy” goes with him.
It was an event, Long says, that restored his national pride to such a degree that he tattooed a reminder of the protest on the back of his left hand.
“Don’t tread on me” — the slogan of the American Revolution-era flag favoured by anti-government groups — is inked just above his wrist. In the centre is a Canada goose wearing a yellow vest, a nod to the Yellow Vesters, the progenitor protest movement to the “Freedom Convoy,” and holding a jerry can in its beak. And on his knuckles is a four-letter word: “Honk.”

Retrieved weapons include a Vietnam war-era flamethrower, sawn-off shotguns, rifles, gel blasters and revolvers
More than 17,000 weapons, including a Vietnam war-era flamethrower, were surrendered in the first year of Australia’s national permanent firearms amnesty.
States and territories struck an agreement with the Commonwealth in 2019 to establish an enduring amnesty allowing gun owners to hand in unregistered, illegal, or unwanted firearms without punishment or investigation.
The amnesty began in mid-2021, after Covid-related delays, aiming to claw back some of the roughly 260,000 illicit firearms thought to be in circulation in Australia.

The 27-year-old man was arrested at around 5am on suspicion of firearms and explosives offences. It is understood the suspect was arrested close to the hospital’s maternity unit.
Part of the hospital had to be evacuated and bomb disposal teams from the British Army were drafted in.

As the annual World Economic Forum takes place in Davos, Switzerland – gathering the global elite, wealthy and a host of anti-life and anti-freedom advocates – the Vatican’s news outlet is promoting the event as “presenting solutions” to world “crises.”
In an interview published January 19 on Vatican News, the local Catholic priest in Davos spoke about the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting. It is taking place in its customary January spot, after having been held online in 2021 and then in May last year.

If you’ve ever wondered whether politics does indeed make for unlikely bedfellows, just take a peek under the covers in Alberta.
In the run-up to the provincial election this spring, Premier Danielle Smith is receiving a boost from two of the unlikeliest of sources: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Alberta NDP Leader Rachel Notley.
That’s not to say Trudeau and Notley are deliberately trying to help Smith, but it is exactly what’s happening.

Public health officials are warning COVID-19 infections may increase in severity as the latest subvariant – known as XBB.1.5, or “Kraken” – spreads in Canada.
At a news conference in Ottawa on Friday, Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said the country’s health-care sector is still recovering, and while levels of influenza and RSV have returned to the seasonal norms, COVID-19 cases still fluctuate across Canada.

Housing Minister Ahmed Hussen’s office admitted Thursday night that his senior staffer is the sister of the director of a foodie communications firm that received $93,050 in constituency funds.
Hussen’s office confirmed that his director of policy, Tia Tariq, is sisters with Hiba Tariq, the director of Munch More Media, the company that has been receiving lucrative contracts to help the York South—Weston MP reach out to constituents.
I have never seen a government that has the unmitigated hatred and contempt of it citizens as Trudeau’s Liberals.

CIA Director William J. Burns traveled in secret to Ukraine’s capital at the end of last week to brief President Volodymyr Zelensky on his expectations for what Russia is planning militarily in the coming weeks and months, said a U.S. official and other people familiar with the visit.
Burns’s travel comes at a critical juncture in the 11-month war. Russian forces are mounting a massive assault near the eastern city of Bakhmut that is causing many casualties on both sides and forcing Ukraine to weigh its resources there as it prepares a major counteroffensive elsewhere in the country.
