Question of the day: Does Biden remember how old he is?

Come on, man. Of course Joe Biden knows how old he is — but he isn’t too happy about the discussion of its importance, now and especially for the 2024 election. In a preview of the 2020 presidential rematch that the media longs to see and may will into reality, Politico notes that the top echelons of both parties have grown rather long in the tooth.

Sam Bankman-Fried’s Bahamas jail infested by rats and maggots: ‘Not fit for humanity’

Fallen crypto billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried is being held in a Bahamian jail known to be overrun with rats and maggots — one so bad a warden has called it “not fit for humanity.”

The accused fraudster, once estimated to be worth $32 billion, is being held in the island’s only correctional facility, Fox Hill Prison, until at least Feb. 8 after failing to get bail while fighting against extradition to the US.

The jail was the focus of a damning report last year by the US Department of State into possible human rights violations, including violence and abuse by staff.

Mini-Madoff is in for some serious culture shock.

More money woes: Your take-home income will decrease next month due to a tax hike

Next month, you’ll see a dip in your take-home income due to a tax hike — that is, unless your employer takes extra steps to prevent it.

“The upcoming 2023 increase in payroll taxes will mean every Canadian worker will see up to $305 less in take-home income on January 1, unless their employer is able to make up the difference,” the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) said in a press release.

European “far-right” cheers over Qatar corruption scandal

For years, they’ve locked horns with EU leaders who accuse them of flouting the rule of law, oppressing minorities, and maintaining unsavory ties with foreign regimes such as Vladimir Putin’s in Russia.

But now, as a corruption scandal engulfs Brussels, ensnaring a senior figure of the center-left, Europe’s far-right leaders feel that the shoe is on the other foot — and they are going on the attack against a pro-EU establishment that they say has presided over massive corruption while lecturing them about how to run their countries.

The “far-right” has good reason to cheer, since the far-left are the Qatar corrupted…

“The European Parliament,” said its president, Roberta Metsola, at a session in Strasbourg on Monday, “is under attack.”

The focal point for that attack, for now, is the Parliament’s Socialists and Democrats (S&D) group. In Brussels, police raided the parliamentary office of Greek MEP Eva Kaili, who is currently in a jail cell as she awaits a court appearance, slated for Wednesday.

Now with added “socialists” – Who’s who in the Qatar corruption scandal?

Jordan Peterson and Bjorn Lomborg: Hunger is more pressing than climate change, elites have it backwards

We traditionally reflect during the end-of-year holidays on the consequences of our past behavior, as well as contemplating the good we might want to achieve in the twelve months ahead. When we set resolutions, for example, we are striving to determine how we can do better in our own lives. Perhaps we could also take the occasion to consider how we might achieve such improvement on a larger scale.

‘Road sleeping’ deaths soar in Tokyo as socialising returns to pre-Covid levels

I must one day visit Japan. Cat Island calls.

The end of Covid-19 restrictions on Japan’s nighttime economy has brought more people out on to the streets of Tokyo – but it could also be contributing to a spate of deaths among people who are struck by cars as they sleep on the road.

The number of deaths among people who sleep where they drop on the capital’s roads has nearly doubled from last year, from seven to 13, according to police.

Concern is rising that the death toll will rise again over the coming fortnight, as office workers get together to mark the end of the year at alcohol-fuelled bonenkai parties – a custom many shunned during the pandemic.

Paris braced for ‘civil war’ on the Champs-Elysees as France prepares to take on Morocco in World Cup semi-final tonight

Paris is bracing itself for ‘civil war’ on the Champs-Elysees tonight as France take on Morocco in the World Cup semi-final.

Officials say the famous avenue in the French city centre could turn into a ‘battlefield’ for the highly-anticipated clash to see who will face Argentina in the final.

France has the world’s biggest Moroccan population outside of the North African country with an estimated 1.5million people, and the countries have a testy history with Morocco a former protectorate of the European nation.

The Banlieue will erupt either way I suspect.

Iran likely to be ousted from UN women’s body over bloody crackdown

Global solidarity against Iran’s bloody crackdown on a women-led protest movement will be tested on Wednesday, as world powers vote on whether to oust the country from a UN body tasked with empowering women.

Activists and rights groups say Tehran’s role in the 45-member commission on the status of women is a farce, considering the regime’s forces have beaten and killed women peacefully calling for gender equality.

The UN economic and social council (Ecosoc), which oversees the commission, will gather in New York to consider a US-drafted resolution to remove Iran “with immediate effect”.

I’ll believe this when I see it.

RCMP visit Communist Chinese Outpost in Richmond in investigation into Chinese ‘police’ stations

A friendship society in Richmond, B.C., has become a focus in an RCMP investigation into allegations of secret Chinese “police” stations operating in Canada.

Officers visited the Canada Wenzhou Friendship Society on Saturday and conducted interviews with people who live nearby in the suburb south of Vancouver.

CBC spoke with neighbours who confirmed RCMP officers spoke with them, asking if they’d seen anything suspicious, and a marked cruiser was still parked outside the building on Tuesday.

New poll shows majority of young people are stupid

Tories maintain lead over Liberals as gap slightly widens, new poll shows

A new poll suggests the Tories still have a small lead over the governing Liberals and have slightly widened the gap.

The poll conducted by Leger over the weekend says 33 per cent of respondents would vote for the Conservatives and 30 per cent would vote for the Liberals if a federal election was underway.

… Younger voters were most likely to support New Democrats. A full third of those aged 18 to 34 said they would vote for the party, while 28 per cent would vote Liberal and 22 per cent Conservative.

Bank of Canada to Consult Canadians on Digital Currency in 2023, Says Governor

Apocalypse of Angers tapestry: Dragons Vomiting Frogs

The Bank of Canada is moving out of its research phase into a central bank digital currency and going into the development phase, its governor said on Dec. 12, with consultations on the issue to take place with Canadians in 2023.

“I think over time, it is conceivable that in a more digital economy, it might make sense to give Canadians the ability to hold central bank money in digital format. So we’re making sure we’re getting ready,” Bank of Canada (BoC) Governor Tiff Macklem said in his year-end address hosted by the Business Council of British Columbia.

And just like that you were absorbed.

Drag queen invited to White House for marriage equality bill signing tweeted ‘The kids are out to sing and suck d!’

Twisted old pig invites degenerates to White House.

Among those who attended the White House’s ceremony for the signing of the legislation codifying same-sex marriage were two drag queens, one of whom once tweeted: ‘The kids are out to sing and suck d!’

Another performed for a group of kids in a church in New York in August where ‘social pressure’ was put on students of Grace School to enjoy the show.

It’s enough to make you wish the heavens would open and rain hell-fire on the Biden White House.

Got a cat? There’s an app for that.

Feline OK? Alberta app uses AI to test your cat’s mood and health

Cats can be complicated creatures. But there are hints about their happiness written all over their furry faces.

“There’s lots of pain scales out there that look at facial features,” said Dr. Liz Ruelle with the Wild Rose Cat Clinic. “The shape of the whiskers, how are those ears set? That sparkle in the eyes.”

This is pretty cool. Pip was an incredibly stoic little fellow and it was much much too late before his symptoms showed.

I wonder if the app could have helped.

Idaho cops get gas station footage of white car seen speeding near slain students’ home

Idaho authorities retrieved hours of footage from a Moscow gas station Tuesday that reportedly captured a white sedan speeding by the night four college students were killed at their nearby home, according to a report.

The surveillance footage could potentially be of importance as just last week Moscow police announced that they were looking for the occupants of a white Hyundai who may have “critical information” in last month’s murders of four University of Idaho students.
