Putin Doesn’t Need Nukes to Harm the West

After its withdrawal from Kherson, Russia’s back is against the wall in Ukraine. Ukraine’s successful offensive has prompted concerns that Russian president Vladimir Putin might contemplate what President Joe Biden deemed nuclear “Armageddon” last month. This month even China joined the West in strongly condemning this Russian threat. Will Putin nonetheless resort to nuclear weapons to stave off defeat?

In fact, Russia is sufficiently deterred from using any nuclear weapons, including strategic and tactical warheads, a dirty bomb, or a nuclear plant meltdown. Fears that Putin might resort to nuclear weapons appeared at earlier junctures in this conflict. In September, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan issued a stark warning to Moscow after Russia’s latest nuclear threats that was reiterated again this month when CIA director William Burns met with his Russian counterpart in Ankara, Turkey to convey the “consequences of the use of nuclear weapons.”

The Same Old, Same Old Deja Vu

The left-wing nexus goes on and on.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has just announced the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith.

But Smith’s team will not look into the Biden family quid pro quo syndicate nor its incriminating confessionals on Hunter Biden’s laptop.

Instead, it will further investigate Donald Trump’s possession of presidential records that were hauled off from Mar-a-Lago, as well as his purported role in the January 6 “insurrection.”

UK: No, the public has not warmed to immigration

Fresh off the back of today’s news that UK net migration rose to an eye-popping record 504,000 in the past year, there are some who are making the argument that Britain’s main parties should pivot to championing a pro-immigration stance to win votes. According to a new report entitled ‘A new consensus? How public opinion has warmed to immigration,’ public opinion has drifted in favour of immigration over the past years.

The Big Lie About Big Immigration.

Is there a remedy for Canada’s escalating ‘suicide’ policies?

Societies can prevent suicide by substituting homicide. In Canada, doctors in the spring of ‘23 will be authorized to encourage patients who are depressed, mentally ill, or just difficult or expensive to treat to commit suicide. To be fair, two doctors must sign off on the final decision, and there will be a 90-day waiting period before the execution can be carried out. If doctors are squeamish about it, the law is going to permit nurse practitioners to do the deed (probably with a hefty bonus for each ‘patient’ so treated).

This new policy is materially different from the assisted suicide that is already legal in Canada. That sees doctors supplying the drugs for ending life and leaves it to the individuals to choose the time and place to self-administer.

To Ignore Strange New Worlds: Astrobiologists Fret About ‘Colonizing’ the Universe

I am old enough to remember the Apollo Project. One of the things I recall, besides Saturday morning cartoons being interrupted by shots of the astronauts, was the return of Apollo 11. The astronauts were placed in quarantine because no one was entirely sure that they had not picked up any strange things while being exposed to the moon dust on their suits and tools. In retrospect, it may have been the first time we publicly acknowledged the potential risks of even minuscule life in outer space.

It’s Trudeau’s show and Friday he will have to answer for it

I hate this asshole.

In true headliner fashion, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is up last at the inquiry examining his government’s use of the Emergencies Act to quell the protests that roiled the country last winter.

By this point, the weeks of testimony from cabinet ministers, police and government officials, bureaucrats, municipal leaders, furious citizens and aggrieved convoy leaders has formed an ever-narrowing corridor. Most of the thousands of questions that might have been asked about what happened and why have either been answered or batted aside.

Jesse Kline: Enriching dictators in the name of ‘climate justice’ is certain to fail

Loss and damage fund agreed to at COP27 will end up being trillions in misspent dollars

To no one’s surprise, this year’s COP27 climate conference — the annual gabfest that brings politicians and environmentalists together to discuss Big Government solutions to climate change — saw some world leaders pat themselves on the back for coming up with yet another costly program to deal with global warming, and others incensed that an agreement couldn’t be reached to force everyone to ride their bikes to work and trade in their furnaces for cozy sweaters.

Enriching dictators with our money is what Trudeau does best.

Revealed: Biden and Xi’s secret Ukraine talks

The illusion of Chinese support was one of the many miscalculations that led Putin down the road to war

Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, China has played a decisive — though publicly low-profile — role in strategic decision-making in both Washington and Moscow. As I report for the first time in my new book Overreach, it was a back-channel intervention approved by Beijing that caused the US to scupper a deal for the Poles to provide Soviet-made MiG-29 jets to the Ukrainian Air Force back in March. And since September a flurry of personal diplomacy by Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi with NATO and the US has led to a rare moment of public agreement over Russia, when Xi Jinping said that the world “needs to prevent a nuclear crisis on the Eurasian continent” in a meeting with Joe Biden at the G20 summit in Bali.

When Ideology Trumps Empathy

Progressives profess to care deeply about inner-city black Americans, but their voting patterns suggest otherwise.

It turns out that black lives really don’t matter. In the run-up to the 2022 midterm elections, conservatives had relentlessly raised the alarm about the post–George Floyd crime surge: homicides had risen 29 percent in 2020 (the largest increase on record), and they have continued rising since then. Democrats and their media allies responded either that crime was a racist fiction or that, because post-Floyd crime levels nationally were still lower than they were in the early 1990s, there was nothing to see here, folks, move on!

Colorado gay nightclub massacre shows Democrats’ hypocrisy

For three days after the Colorado gay nightclub massacre Democrats and their media allies smeared conservative opponents of drag queen groomer hour as “stochastic terrorists” who are to blame for the tragedy.

Then, to their chagrin on Tuesday, the suspect’s lawyers filed court papers saying he identifies as nonbinary and uses the pronouns “they, them.”

Suddenly their right-wing homophobia narrative collapsed in a heap. Not that it caused them any self-reflection. They will just wait for the next opportunity to weaponize a tragedy.

No-Filter Dad’s a real piece of work.
