Germany Preparing For Emergency Cash Deliveries, Bank Runs And “Aggressive Discontent” Ahead Of Winter Power Cuts

While Europe has been keeping a generally optimistic facade ahead of the coming cold winter, signaling that it has more than enough gas in storage to make up for loss of Russian supply even in a “coldest-case” scenario, behind the scenes Europe’s largest economy is quietly preparing for a worst case scenario which include angry mobs and bankruns should blackouts prevent the population from accessing cash.

Republicans Win Control Of The House

Republicans gained control of the United State House of Representatives, edging out a narrow victory in the tightly-contested midterm elections.

The GOP currently holds 218 seats after mail-in ballots caused over a week of delays in results, The Associated Press reported, though that number may grow as the last few remaining races wrap up. The elections were far closer than pre-midterm projections, with most pollsters predicting Republicans would take between 225 and 255 seats.

“Who’s Going to Clean it Up?”

“What I want to know is: Who’s going to clean it up?” A friend of mine, a liberal in the broadest, nearly extinct sense of the word, was asking a simple question about the ongoing acts of vandalism committed over the past few months against timeless works of art in the name of climate-change protest. In the recent annals of TikTok radicalism—truly one of the most peculiar phenomena of our super-prosperous society—flinging mashed potatoes, tomato soup, and pea soup at artistic masterpieces, while gluing your hands to their frames, all in hopes of raising consciousness of climate change, has to be among the weirdest.

Iran organised 10 kidnap and death plots in the UK, MI5 says

There have been at least 10 potential threats by Iran to kidnap or kill British or UK-based people this year.

The figure was revealed by the head of MI5, Ken McCallum, in his annual update on threats facing the UK.

Mr McCallum also warned the UK “must be ready for Russian aggression for years to come”.

But he said Russia had suffered a strategic setback after a mass expulsion of its spies around the world in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine.

Egyptians: We Do Not Want the Islamists to Return to Power

Is the banned Muslim Brotherhood organization trying to return to power in Egypt?

Many Egyptians believe that the Muslim Brotherhood was behind calls to Egyptians to hold nationwide protests during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), which is now in progress at the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm al-Sheikh. The Islamists, they say, justified their call by arguing that the planned demonstrations were designed to protest human rights violations and bad economic conditions in Egypt.

Angry locals in Kherson tie Putin ‘Collaborators’ to lampposts

Ukrainians suspected of collaborating with Russia have continued to be rounded up and confronted by residents in Kherson.

Images appear to show collaborators filed against a wall and displayed for residents as their hands are bound and eyes covered with tape.

The men were understood to have been arrested for allegedly collaborating and working with Russian forces after they entered the southern city earlier this year.

University Student Protests Mandate With Grapefruit ‘Mask’ One Day, Bucket on His Head Another

Kamil Bachouchi, a 21-year-old philosophy student at Wilfrid Laurier University, showed up to class on Nov. 15 wearing a “mask”—or rather, a hollowed-out grapefruit.

It covered his nose and mouth, complying with the mandatory mask policy put in place for the fall university term. This is just the latest way Bachouchi, who plans to go to law school, is peacefully protesting an educational environment in which, he says, students “aren’t allowed to think or debate,” but are forced into “compliance.”

Ivanka: I’m out — for good

Yowza. At one time, Team Trump pushed the idea that Ivanka Trump could become the next generation of a political dynasty. She served a critical role in her father’s term as both a key advisor and to some extent a calm and moderating PR presence in a chaotic White House.

Love Trump but I never cared much for his daughter and son-in-law serving in the White House. That said Ivanka’s adios may be a sign that Trump should not pursue the 2024 nomination.

Previous backers are saying nyet: GOP megadonors ditch Donald Trump’s 2024 White House run

FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried and celebrities who endorsed failed crypto giant, including Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen, are hit with class-action lawsuit by investors who say they lost $11 BILLION

FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried and a string of A-list celebrities who backed his failed crypto trading platform have been sued in a class action lawsuit worth $11 billion.

The suit filed in Florida names stars including Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen, Shaquille O’Neal, Steph Curry and Larry David.

It claims Bankman-Fried, 30, and the celebrities he recruited to endorse FTX are behind losses to American consumers valued at $11 billion.

This just keeps getting better. Celebrity endorsements of worthless coins and other digital scams should have been outlawed long ago.

Rising gas and food prices keep inflation at 6.9% in October … Rents Sky High & Climbing

The price of groceries rose 11 per cent year over year, a drop from the 41-year high of 11.4 per cent seen in September. That’s the 11th straight month grocery inflation has been higher than the overall “headline” number.

Gasoline prices rose 17.8 per cent compared to a year ago.

Wages continued to grow at a slower rate than inflation, rising 5.6 per cent in the last year.

Think house prices are too high? The rental market is even worse — with no relief in sight

According to data from rental accommodation website Rentals.ca and analyzed by data firm Urbanation, the average rent in October across Canada was $1,976. That’s an increase of 11.9 per cent, well ahead of Canada’s inflation rate of 6.9 per cent.

The increases aren’t even across the country, either, as Atlantic Canada has seen rents rise at the eye-watering pace of 32.2 per cent in the past year. Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta have seen increases of 17.7 per cent, 15.1 per cent and 13.2 per cent, respectively.
