Canada’s Ability to Detect Chinese, Russian Incursions in Arctic ‘Very Limited,’ Says CAF General

Canada’s ability to detect foreign incursions in its Arctic territories is “very limited” and in need of modernization, says a high-ranking Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) general.

“The North Warning System is very limited in its ability to actually detect the current threat presented by Russia right now and China in the future,” said Lt. Gen. Alain Pelletier, deputy commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), while testifying before the House of Commons national defence committee on Nov. 1.

The UN Calls for Israel to Rid Itself of Nuclear Weapons

via GIPHY

The United Nations has decided that Israel needs to get rid of its nuclear weapons — if indeed it has any. But the organization has nothing to say about Iran.

In a 152-5 vote on Friday, the UN’s General Assembly voted to have Israel dispose of its nuclear weapons and place any nuclear sites within its borders under the watchful eye of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The dissenting votes were from the United States, Canada, Israel, Micronesia, and Palau. Twenty-three nations and the European Union abstained.

CSIS is ‘increasingly concerned’ about China’s interference in Canada

Canada’s spy agency is growing “increasingly concerned” about China’s attempts to influence Canadian politics, a senior official told members of Parliament on Tuesday.

That’s because the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is “involved and interested in promoting their own national interests” in Canada, Michelle Tessier, the deputy director of operations for the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) told the procedure and House affairs committee on Tuesday.

What does ‘diversity’ really mean, asks the U.S. Supreme Court’s longest-serving Black judge

Jamil Jivani: Clarence Thomas asks a question too many Canadians are afraid to

Justice Clarence Thomas is not known for being vocal when the U.S. Supreme Court hears oral arguments. He is typically reserved and quiet. But, during Monday’s arguments on the merits of affirmative action, Justice Thomas asked one of the most important questions facing Americans and Canadians alike.

What does “diversity” really mean?

Canada: ‘Expert’ on ‘radicalization and extremism’ says ISIS brides and their kids should be repatriated ‘quickly’

Cécile Rousseau, who is described as “a pediatric psychiatrist at McGill University and an expert on violent radicalization and extremism,” advises that women and children who are being detained in Islamic State (ISIS) camps should be brought back to Canada “quickly.” She “does not believe that a handful of women returning with young children, who will be monitored and given support, will represent a danger to Canadian society,” yet she is touted as an “expert” in “radicalization and extremism.”

ATF, Enforcer of Gun Laws, Lost ‘Thousands of Firearms, Firearm Parts’ to Thieves

With inflation, prices are up pretty much across the board, but if you’re looking for a new gun for recreation or self-defense, here’s a hint: the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) is offering them at an absolute steal. Seriously, the federal agency tasked with enforcing firearms regulations has such poor security that thousands of guns and gun parts once in its possession disappeared in the hands of thieves. And it has yet to fully implement recommended reforms.

Pelosi Got Hammered

When a story comes out about a Pelosi getting hammered, a normal person assumes the news has something to do with a drunk speaker of the House named Nancy slurring through a staged press conference with her Pravda media friends.  You do not expect to find out that an alleged commie Castro nudist with a fondness for psychedelics has managed to Mission: Impossible his way past tight security surrounding one of the speaker’s guarded homes in order to play handyman with her husband’s tools.

Faulty FBI Data Obscures Successful Defensive Gun Use

With crime such an important issue, Americans depend on the FBI for accurate data. The crime data for 2021 is a mess, with almost 40% of law enforcement agencies around the country not submitting any data to the FBI. In California, 93% didn’t report crime data. In New York, 87% didn’t. Cities are embarrassed by the soaring crime rates, and even when they have collected the data they aren’t transmitting those numbers to the FBI.

But many more data errors are the direct responsibility of the FBI.

Ukraine faces ‘winter humanitarian crisis’ with energy grid on the brink

Energy boss says ‘virtually all’ non-nuclear power stations hit by Russian attacks

Ukraine faces a winter humanitarian crisis unless it can prevent a collapse in its electricity supply caused by the relentless campaign of Russian bombing, the chief executive of the country’s national grid has said.

Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, the chief executive of Ukrenergo, said “virtually all” large non-nuclear power stations in the country had been hit, as well as more than 30% of the network’s routing substations.

Describing the position as critical, the energy boss said Ukraine had asked western countries for badly needed spare parts last week – and repeated calls for more missile defence systems to help prevent damaging attacks.

Why Is Western Culture Exempt From Complaints of Cultural Appropriation?

It is a mistake to view cultures and their products as exclusive to those of a certain skin color.

With Halloween came a new batch of articles, news segments, and podcasts lambasting and warning of unintended cultural appropriation. In an Oct. 14 PBS article, author Beatrice Alvarez admonished families that many costumes are “actually hurtful to many people because they are a form of cultural appropriation.” She offered readers an example of such appropriation: little girls choosing to dress up in the traditional Native American attire worn by the titular character in the PBS children’s show Molly of Denali.

Vladimir Putin’s failed strategy

After 250 days, his forces are caught in a paradox

As the first 250 days of Russia’s war in Ukraine have proved again, the logic of strategy is paradoxical. It has never been linear, as in the Roman Si vis pacem para bellum: if you want peace prepare for war. Because the logic of strategy is paradoxical, it is very easy to be wrong in matters of peace and war, and very hard to be right.
