Liz Truss resigns as prime minister after Tory revolt

Liz Truss has dramatically resigned as prime minister after just 45 days in the job.

The PM said her successor will be elected in a Tory leadership contest, to be completed in the next week.

Tory MPs urged Ms Truss to go after her government was engulfed by political turmoil, following the ditching of most of her economic policies.

Ms Truss was elected by the Tory membership in September, but she lost authority after a series of U-turns

Secret recording reveals deep rift over plan to hire new Ottawa police chief during convoy crisis

A secretly recorded conversation between Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson and Coun. Diane Deans about an aborted plan to hire a new police chief at the height of last winter’s convoy protest was played Wednesday at the public inquiry examining the federal government’s decision to invoke the Emergencies Act to help end the crisis.

The Feb. 15 recording, which was only brought forward to the commission Wednesday morning, was entered into evidence at the Public Order Emergency Commission Wednesday afternoon. The tense call was recorded by Deans’ assistant without Watson’s knowledge, she later testified.

It appears that government and the police were the greatest threat to public order.

Greta Thunberg kills off the anti-nuclear campaign

A change in mind from the world’s most famous environmental campaigner shows just how marginalised the case against nuclear power has become. In an interview last week, Greta Thunberg criticised German plans to shut down its three remaining nuclear plants, branding the move “a bad idea” and a “mistake” if it necessitated switching to coal. For this she received praise from Christian Democrat and Free Democratic Party politicians in the country, and even won over figures from the German Right who had previously been dismissive of her activism.

Ottawa police plagued by infighting and an insurrection against chief during protests, inquiry hears

OTTAWA – The chair of the committee overseeing Ottawa’s police says there was “constant” infighting within the force that hampered its ability to deal with the Freedom Convoy protests and undermined Chief Peter Sloly’s authority.

The infighting within the Ottawa Police Service got so bad that it caused an operation to take down a blockade in the core of downtown to be called off even though 400 officers were ready to move in, Diane Deans told the Public Order Emergency Commission on Wednesday.

Tam has lost trust of Canadians, say Conservative MPs

Canada’s top doctor does not have the trust of Canadians when it comes to COVID-19.

So say Commons health committee MPs, who told Dr. Theresa Tam, the country’s chief public health officer, it will not blindly follow the advice of her Public Health Agency, according to Blacklock’s Reporter .

To back that up, Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux (Edmonton Riverbend) read a string of Tam’s incorrect statements made about COVID-19 early in the pandemic into the record.

Megyn Kelly rips Meghan Markle over ‘Deal or No Deal’ ‘bimbo’ comments: ‘She loved every minute of it’

Princess Douchebag – Lying Bimbo

Megyn Kelly isn’t having any of Meghan Markle’s claims that she felt “objectified” as a “bimbo” when she worked as a briefcase girl on the television game show “Deal or No Deal.”

“[Markle] knew exactly what she was getting herself into on that job and it was no surprise to her that they wanted her to look as good as possible while doing it,” Kelly said of the 41-year-old actress-turned-British-royal on her SiriusXM show on Wednesday.

“What she’s trying to con us on now is whether she enjoyed it,” said Kelly, who branded Markle the “Duchess of Duplicity”.

Insights from documents provided to convoy commission so far … or everything the government said was a lie

‘Recruiting ground’ and ‘martyrdom’ concerns: Insights from documents provided to convoy commission so far

Less than one week into the Public Order Emergency Commission’s hearings examining the federal government’s invocation of the Emergencies Act, hundreds of documents have already been made public.

While a considerable portion of the documents provided to the commission so far are copies of pandemic public health orders and statements, as well as clippings from media coverage of the ‘Freedom Convoy,’ there have also been transcripts or summaries of high-level phone calls, email and text message exchanges, and internal reports, with likely much more to come.

Dire Warnings From the Former Police Chief of Paris

When you post soldiers in your streets out of fear then you have an Islam problem.

“One day, it will be necessary to mass troops in front of the Élysée.”

… Lallemant believes, based on his decades of experience as a police officer and then as the police chief of Paris, that the large-scale presence of Muslims, who do not wish to integrate into French society, but rather, to challenge the French state and its laws, will end in a civil war, where even the Élysée Palace will need to be guarded by the army from Muslim insurrectionists.

China’s Surveillance State Pushes Deeper into Citizens’ Lives

SHANGHAI—In many parts of Xi Jinping’s China, state surveillance and Covid-19 controls begin the moment you step out the door in the morning.

The day might start with a government-mandated Covid test from workers in white hazmat suits. Without proof of a negative result, public spaces are off limits, including office buildings, grocery stores and parks.

Surveillance cameras keep watch over the city streets. In a cab on the way to work, the driver requires you to scan a QR code for a government database tracking people’s movements. Scan again when stopping by Starbucks for coffee and then again at the office.

The Marijuana Myth

With the midterms bearing down and the post-George Floyd crime wave still underway, President Biden and his fellow Democrats face a dilemma: Continue hammering the theme that law enforcement is racist or position themselves as guardians of law and order?

Innate inclination won out again last week. Biden announced that he was pardoning all individuals who have ever been federally convicted of marijuana possession. His reason for doing so, Biden said, was to “right” the racial “wrongs” that the criminal justice system has allegedly perpetrated. “While white and Black and brown people use marijuana at similar rates, Black and brown people are arrested, prosecuted and convicted at disproportionately higher rates,” Biden said in a video.

End of the Line for Black Lives Matter?

Candace Owens isn’t Black Lives Matter’s biggest problem this month; its own website and social media posts are. These are not exactly new revelations because the information has been online for years but, when American Thinker readers help take it viral, it’s the end of the world for this race hustling anti-Semitic fraud, and egg on the face of every organization and political figure that has gotten behind it. These could claim reasonably, at least until now, that they didn’t know, but now they no longer have this excuse. They need to get clear of this impending public relations catastrophe immediately if not sooner.

Europe’s self-inflicted depression

European industry has been sacrificed to green ideology.

EU ambassadors held their annual conference last week, and some surprisingly frank things were said for a meeting of diplomats. Josep Borrell, the EU’s high representative for foreign affairs, quite openly excoriated the assembled ambassadors. The European model is no longer working, he said: ‘The United States [takes] care of our security. China and Russia provided the basis of our prosperity. This is a world that is no longer there.’

He even argued that in a world of resurgent nationalism Europe’s self-image as ‘the land of reason’ may no longer have universal appeal. ‘We underestimate the role of emotions and the persisting appeal of identity politics’, he said. ‘More and more’, he warned, ‘the rest of the world is not ready to follow’ the European model.

Will America end Zelenskyy’s dream?

The pro-war consensus seems to be weakening

Even as “kamikaze” drones rain down on Kyiv, the mood over Ukraine is shifting in the US. Between May and September, the share of Americans who are extremely or very concerned about a Ukrainian defeat fell from 55% to 38%. Among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, 32% say the US is providing too much support for the war — up from 9% in March.

But rifts are emerging within the American establishment as well. The list of high-profile media and policy figures who are starting to question the wisdom of the US strategy in the conflict grows longer every day.

Just Stop Oil bankrolled by group part-funded by oil heiress Aileen Getty

Aileen Getty is famous as the heiress to the family oil business which made her grandfather one of the richest men in the world.

But now MPs are questioning how some of her millions are going to a non-profit organisation that is bankrolling Just Stop Oil whose activists have been arrested in recent days for bringing chaos to the streets of Britain with alleged criminal acts.

Ms Getty, 65, the granddaughter of the oil tycoon J Paul Getty, is a founding member of Climate Emergency Fund, a US non-profit organisation funding direct action across the globe.
