4 Reasons Putin Won’t Start A Nuclear War Over Ukraine

In the last few weeks, there has been widespread speculation that Russian President Vladimir Putin might use a nuclear weapon in his war against Ukraine. This has generated speculation on how the West might react, including the use of nuclear weapons in response. As Cheryl Rofer notes, much of this commentary has been irresponsible, trading on the lurid, apocalyptic possibilities of nuclear weapons to throw out alarmist scenarios. Her trenchant term for this is ‘nukeporn.’ She is almost certainly right.

Why our cannabis experiment failed

Illegal weed still outsells legal weed — and legitimate cannabis companies are struggling

Once cannabis legalization started being taken seriously a decade ago, the majority of liberal Americans supported it. It just seemed like common sense. No longer would pot users have to rely on street dealers, so criminal organizations would wither away. At the same time, states would benefit from billions in tax revenue. Booze, after all, was once held under the thumb of prohibition in the US, bringing about thirteen years of black market activity and gang violence, which all ended when prohibition was repealed in 1933. The alcohol trade is now one of the leading earners in America and contributes roughly $260 billion to the economy. Why would marijuana be any different?

The data collected from Israel’s adverse events reporting system showing that some women experienced menstrual disorders for more than 12 months after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine raises concerns, according to Dr. Shelly Cole, an obstetrician-gynecologist in Texas.

“Looking at the Israeli data is very concerning,” Cole told The Epoch Times.

Iran: Freedom-Lovers Win a Round

As the uprising in Iran enters its fourth week, speculation about its future is rife.

Participants insist that they are on the path to victory, achieving regime change. They cite a number of reasons.

To start with, this is the first time that a national uprising isn’t about any particular grievance that could be rectified by the regime; what is at stake is total rejection of a system.

Next, there is the fact that the regime has been unable to regain control of the public space with the speed and efficiency it did on other occasions since 1979.

The Mullahs are shooting protesters. The protesters are not shooting back. Hold on to your guns.

‘You All Got Caught With Your Sparkly Panties Down’: Mom Wrecks School Board Over Halloween Drag Show

Parents made their voices heard at a school board meeting last week after a North San Diego County school district’s digital community page advertised a “family friendly” Halloween drag show for children and families.

One outraged mother, Brittany Mayer, accused the Encinitas Unified School District school board members of “pimping out” the district’s children to a transgender surgical facility and a 21-and-over gay bar, apparent sponsors of the event.

Xi: China will never rule out use of force in Taiwan

President Xi Jinping opened the 20th Communist Party Congress on Sunday. In his speech, Xi said China has not ruled out the use of force regarding Taiwan, a self-ruled island that Beijing considers Chinese territory.

“We insist on striving for the prospect of peaceful reunification with the greatest sincerity and with the greatest efforts,” he said. “However, we are not committed to abandoning the use of force and we reserve the option to take all necessary measures,” he said.

He added that “the resolution of the Taiwan issue is a matter for the Chinese themselves to decide.”

College leftists expand campaign to silence all talk of Zionism and Israel

On college campuses across the nation, progressive activists have accelerated their efforts to silence and ban any talk of Zionism. Last month, in a campaign initiated by Law Students for Justice in Palestine (LSJP) at Berkeley Law at the University of California Berkeley, nine progressive law groups amended their collective bylaws to exclude speakers that support “Zionism, the apartheid state of Israel, and the occupation of Palestine.” The LSJP claimed it as a win for the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel.

Tens of Thousands March in Paris to Protest Rising Living Costs

PARIS — Tens of thousands of people marched in Paris on Sunday to protest rising living costs, amid an increasingly tense political atmosphere marked by strikes at oil refineries and nuclear plants that threaten to spread further.

The march had been planned long before the strikes by a coalition of left-wing parties eager to capitalize on the cost-of-living crisis and assert itself as the leading opposition force to President Emmanuel Macron. But on Sunday, organizers signaled that they intended to build momentum from the climate of social unrest to increase pressure on Mr. Macron’s government.

While Condemning Racism, Racist MSNBC Laments ‘Latinos Who Are White’

For the second time in a week, an MSNBC segment that was meant to condemn racism ended up with the segment’s participants spewing hateful and racist comments towards others. This time, the incident occurred on Saturday’s The Cross Connection as host Tiffany Cross and Prof. Tanya Hernandez reacted to the Los Angeles City Council racism scandal by lamenting that some Latinos try to be and are “white.”

A growing wave of targeted police killings

In Bristol, Connecticut this week, two police officers were murdered and a third was wounded by gunfire in what was clearly an ambush after a phony 911 call was received. Thankfully, the wounded police officer, rather than retreating, returned fire and killed the attacker, saving the public the bother of a trial. This would obviously be grim news under any circumstances, but the attack does not appear to be just some random, one-off act by a maniac.

‘An Empty World Is a Sad World:‘ Internal Facebook Documents Show the Metaverse Is Failing to Take Off

Facebook’s “Horizon Worlds” metaverse, which allows users to interact in virtual worlds with an avatar, is falling far short of performance expectations according to internal documents obtained by the Wall Street Journal. Data shows most users of the metaverse don’t return after the first month, and the userbase has been in continuous decline since the spring.

It looks ridiculous.

Provincial war of words with Trudeau government hides the real crisis Canada is facing

MONTREAL—Federalism as usual or constitutional crisis in the making? What is one to make of the fighting words coming out of various provincial capitals these days?

To separate the wheat from the chaff — and there is quite a bit of the latter — the place to start may be the state of play in some top-of-mind files.

All involve, at least to some degree, the notion of provincial autonomy within the federation, but they are each playing out on distinct scenes and will likely be resolved in different venues.

Healthcare? Enough to topple Trudeau?

Conservative Muslims join forces with Christian right on Michigan book bans

A recent school board meeting at which about 1,000 people gathered in Dearborn, Michigan, to pressure district officials to censor books with LGBTQ+ themes was in most ways similar to hundreds of other recent book ban hearings across the US.

… At the meeting’s conclusion, Dearborn resident Jackson Wagner stood up and declared that he was gay, and told the audience: “The far right in this country despises us all.

“Dearborn should be a city where everyone knows they’re safe and loved and supported,” he continued. Moments later, boos rained down as he concluded his brief speech, and he was confronted by Anoun, who had to be ordered back to his seat by police.

But Muslims aren’t terrorists like those awful “far-right” parents but I’d suggest a change of address for Mr. Wagner.
