Poilievre the Dwarf and supporters likely to burn Canada down says panicked Star

Can Pierre Poilievre contain the populist beast he has unleashed?

The polarizing Conservative leadership front-runner “caught a tiger by the tail and he may not be able to control what he has created.”

Having just watched the first episode of the hyped-up “Rings of Power” streaming series, it got me thinking about the upcoming Sept. 10 coronation of Pierre Poilievre and the path the new leader of the federal Conservative party will choose as the ring-bearer of the Official Opposition.

Like the dwarves who dug too deep for riches in the mines of Moria, Poilievre has plumbed the depths of social media for conspiracy theories and grievance rhetoric, coming up with campaign gold by embracing the freedom convoy and anti-vaxxers. It has earned him a ton cash for party coffers and a record number of new memberships.

The question now is whether Poilievre can contain the populist beast he has unleashed by channelling his inner Stephen Harper, or whether he’d rather hop on its back, ring firmly embedded, and burn the place down.

Policing won’t get better until politicians get their hands dirty

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau weighed in last week on a vile campaign of racist and misogynist harassment currently being endured by several Canadian women in the public eye, including journalists — a campaign that police have not been terribly interested in addressing, according to the women’s reports. (One reported being advised to “lower your expectations,” which some Canadian police forces nowadays may as well adopt as their motto.)

Death threats. Racist taunts. Vows of violence. Inside the increasingly personal attacks targeting Canadian female journalists

Toronto Star Editorial Board

The Taliban in Pakistan wanted Saba Eitizaz dead.

It was 2014, and the militants had issued an edict that Eitizaz and fellow colleagues working for BBC in that country were to be shot on sight. They received messages warning they were living on borrowed time.

Eitizaz fled to Canada as a refugee, she found work with CBC and then the Toronto Star, and the dread faded. But new threats have landed in her inbox — this time, targeting her for being a journalist in Canada.

Because Canada is just like the Taliban!

University feminist society ‘purged by trans activists’ with members frightened into quitting

A university feminist society has been “purged by trans activists”, with its email accounts shut down and members quitting for their safety.

The women-only Swansea University Feminist Society had dozens of students attending its meetings, advertised as a “space away from men” to discuss issues such as the Welsh city’s surge of spiking incidents.

But campus activists made “transphobia” allegations and demanded its leader be expelled after the society publicly supported Kathleen Stock, the professor bullied for her trans views at Sussex University, and promoted the feminist writer Helen Joyce’s book.

‘There We Will Strike Them’: The Munich Massacre and Its Aftermath

Fifty years ago this week, 5th and 6th September 1972, the world watched in horror as Jews were again brutally murdered on German soil, at the Olympics in Munich. Eight Palestinian Liberation Organization terrorists, using the cover name Black September, tortured and murdered 11 Israeli athletes, emasculating one of them as he lay dying in front of his team-mates. They stormed the athletes’ accommodation, killed two immediately and held the remainder hostage, demanding the release of 234 terrorist prisoners held by Israel. Prime Minister Golda Meir — who had been a signatory to Israel’s declaration of independence in 1948 — refused to bargain with them, branding it blackmail. She later said: “We have learnt the bitter lesson. One may save a life immediately only to endanger more lives. Terrorism has to be wiped out.”

Eight to stand trial over 2016 Bastille Day truck attack in Nice

Seven men and one woman will go on trial on Monday over the 2016 Bastille Day attack in the French city of Nice, in which 86 people were killed and hundreds injured by a gunman who drove a heavy truck into a crowd gathered to watch fireworks.

The gunman, responsible for one of the deadliest massacres in peacetime France, was shot dead by police on the spot, ending an assault that shocked a country already reeling from the Islamist attacks in Paris the previous year.

Prosecutors say the accused, who face between five years in jail to a life sentence, helped 31-year-old Tunisian-born Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel obtain weapons, rent the truck or survey the route he took for his deadly rampage.

Elizabeth May’s leadership is the paper straw of Canadian politics

Last October, following a disappointing federal election result and the resignation of Green Party leader Annamie Paul, Elizabeth May ruled out a future bid for the top job.

“We have a lot of very talented people in the Green Party,” she told CBC News at the time. “If people turn to me, it’ll look like, ‘Oh, they had nobody but that poor old lady. And there she goes again.’ So I think I want to focus where my energies feel most beneficial.”

More… “The oppressors seek to label me a pedophile because I had the courage to speak out against them and expose their lies, plots, and plans within their Satanic kingdom,”

And more…

Trudeau should hire these guys for his racist indoctrination courses.

Rich nations owe reparations to countries facing climate disaster, says Pakistan minister

Rich polluting countries which are predominantly to blame for the “dystopian” climate breakdown have broken their promises to reduce emissions and help developing countries adapt to global heating, according to Pakistan’s minister for climate change, who said reparations were long overdue.

More than 1,200 people are dead and a third of Pakistan is under floodwater after weeks of unprecedented monsoon rains battered the country – which only weeks earlier had been suffering serious drought.

In an interview with the Guardian, the climate minister, Sherry Rehman, said global emission targets and reparations must be reconsidered, given the accelerated and relentless nature of climate catastrophes hitting countries such as Pakistan.

Gee too bad your disastrous floods can’t be blamed on climate change you lying leech.

Stop blaming climate change for Pakistan’s floods – Poverty and underdevelopment are the real causes of this devastation.
