Farmers are being “crushed” by the record cost of diesel – to the point where a food crisis may loom, according to the Morning Call in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

A Lehigh County farmer stated, “I’ve got a tractor hooked up to my corn planter out here, no diesel fuel, and I can’t afford to get any.”

Record diesel fuel prices are pushing farmers to the brink and may affect food availability, says farmer Kyle Kotzmoyer, who represents the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. “We have reached that point to where it is very close to being a sinking ship,” said Kotzmoyer in testimony to the Pennsylvania legislature on June 14. “We are teetering on the edge right now.”

In an associated press release, Dr Richard Hatchett, CEPI’s Chief Executive Officer stated: ‘CEPI has moved with great urgency and in coordination with WHO [World Health Organisation], who is leading the development of a coordinated international response, to promote the development of new vaccines against the emerging threat of nCoV-2019.’

Andriy watched anxiously as Russian soldiers connected his mobile to their computer, trying to restore some files. Andriy, a 28-year-old marketing officer, was attempting to leave Mariupol. He had deleted everything he thought a Russian soldier could use against him, such as text messages discussing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine or photos of the devastation in his city caused by weeks of relentless shelling.

But the internet in Mariupol, a once bustling port in southern Ukraine, had been cut off as part of the siege imposed by Russia, and Andriy had not been able to take down some of his social media posts. He remembered the first days of the war, when he had shared some anti-Russian messages and speeches from the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky. “I’m screwed,” he thought.

The soldiers, Andriy said, already had their focus on him.

Is War Really Coming to Taiwan?

Parallels have been drawn between the war in Ukraine and a potential Chinese invasion of Taiwan. While these situations differ in many respects, both countries exist outside of a collective security apparatus like NATO, and both face existential threats posed by much larger and hostile neighbors. Lacking nuclear weapons and outgunned in conventional terms, both the Ukrainian and Taiwanese militaries have little choice but to wage asymmetric warfare. Yet few people truly know, let alone understand, Taiwan’s current defense policy and the path forward.

Its failure to rein in North Korea lays bare our anarchic global order

Crises are engulfing international politics, most recently with Russia’s blatant disregarding of international law in Ukraine and with North Korea’s consistent breaching of the nuclear non-proliferation norm. But at a time when states are acting outside of the rules-based system, our main forum for regulating these violations, the UN, is demonstrating its limited power to enforce or control rogue behaviour.

Musk appeared via video call 10 minutes late to what turned out to be a freewheeling question and answer session moderated by a Twitter executive, in which Musk mused about the existence of aliens and other space civilizations and his view that Twitter should help “civilization and consciousness.”

Police group sues Biden administration over Border Patrol ‘whipping’ investigation

A national law enforcement organization has sued the Biden administration’s top border officials for withholding information about how the White House handled a 2021 incident in which President Joe Biden accused Border Patrol agents of whipping migrants.

The National Police Association announced Thursday morning that it had filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security and its U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency for failing to respond to a February request for all records regarding CBP’s investigation into the Del Rio, Texas, incident last September.

It’ll take a hell of a peace circle to raise the dead.

1,120 people have been shot this year in Chicago and 282 people have been murdered. Yesterday, four people were shot and killed in four hours in just another Wednesday.

Good thing the city has “peace circles”.

Police defunders have been tasked with coming up with “restorative justice” alternatives to the three P’s, police, prosecutors, and prisons, that ask criminals to apologize to their victims.

The Satanic Temple is petitioning the City of Boston to fly their newly designed Satanic flag over City Hall. After a court ruled that the city had to fly a Christian group’s flag, the Temple insisted that it also had the right to display its banner during “Satanic Appreciation Week” from July 23 to 29.

According to Lucien Greaves, the Temple’s founder, “A public forum that allows for religious expression can either announce a dedication to religious pluralism or it can signal a decline into theocracy by allowing public representatives to dictate limits on the civic capacities of some religious identities by exercising exclusive preference for others.”
