Human Rights Violations: European Union Gives Iran’s Mullahs Full Impunity

The European Union, which endlessly and hypocritically lectures the international community on human rights, is turning a blind eye on the Iranian regime’s expanding human rights violations.

EU special envoy Enrique Mora, despite the Iranian regime’s horrendous and brutal human rights abuses, traveled to Iran in October and discussed “mutual interests” with Iran’s leaders. Meanwhile, Iran’s regime has been executing people “at an alarming rate”, and, according to a recent report by Amnesty International, was “the top executioner in the Middle East” last year.

Canada’s Expensive Health-Care System Ranks Poorly Compared to Most Developed Countries: Study

Despite spending more on health care than most other high-income countries with universal coverage, Canada’s health system ranks poorly in comparison, having the longest wait times, with fewer doctors and hospital beds, and lagging behind on medical technologies, a new Fraser Institute study has found.

The study uses a “value for money” approach to compare the cost and performance of the universal health-care systems in 28 high-income countries, selected from the member states of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Amazon’s Bezos predicts only limited number of people will get to remain on Earth

Humanity will move most industry into space and allow only a select few to remain on our planet, which will be turned into a natural resort, according to self-funded space explorer Jeff Bezos.

The Amazon billionaire enthusiastically shared his predictions for what human civilization will look like in the future – with him personally helping to bring that future closer – during a talk at the annual Ignatius Forum in Washington, DC.

He expects vast cylindrical space colonies spinning to create artificial gravity for millions of residents to take over most industrial production. Meanwhile, Earth will be turned into a natural reserve with restricted access similar to US national parks today.

First Nations in Ontario could receive billions in back-rent after court ruling

Canada could face compensation payments to Indigenous communities worth billions, after a court found it had willfully deprived First Nations of the immense wealth extracted from their lands.

The Crown has made payments to 23 First Nations of the Robinson-Huron Treaty territory since 1850, in exchange for a territory roughly the size of France.

In 1874, the payment was increased to C$4 per person per year. It has not changed since then.

Rittenhouse Trial – Prosecution Win Big On “Provocation” Jury Instruction Saves Chance At Conviction

BIG WIN FOR THE PROSECUTION: SAVED BY JUDGE ALLOWING PROVOCATION INSTRUCTIONS

Much of the day’s argument over jury instructions centered on the instructions dealing with the legal doctrine of provocation—and that’s because an attack through the doctrine of provocation is the only desperate hope the State has for overcoming Kyle’s powerful claim of self-defense and obtaining convictions on the use-of-force charges against him.

Of the six counts brought against Kyle Rittenhouse in this trial, five are use-of-force felonies (the other is the misdemeanor gun possession charge already discussed). To each of those felony charges, Kyle has raised the legal defense of self-defense. To convict on any of those, then, the State must disprove self-defense beyond a reasonable doubt. How might the State do this, given that it has introduced little if any evidence attacking the core elements of Kyle’s self-defense?

By attacking Kyle’s claim of self-defense through the doctrine of provocation.

Sabrina Maddeaux: Climate change programs are rife with corruption — the clowns are running the circus

As the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) nears an end, it may be more important to talk about what wasn’t discussed at the summit than what was. Predictably, trendy culprits of the day like oil, private jets and cars were the subject of highly-publicized speeches and promises, with buzzy terms like “sustainability” and “net-zero” tossed about like confetti on a new bride.

Durham University defends student sex work training

Durham University has defended its decision to offer training sessions to help students involved in sex work.

Further Education Minister Michelle Donelan had accused it of “legitimising a dangerous industry which thrives on the exploitation of women”.

But the university said it was acting responsibly by offering students advice on how to stay safe.

Last week its students’ union offered staff and students guidance for people involved in the sex industry.

CSIS says it’s increasingly worried about violent online rhetoric

OTTAWA — Canada’s spy service said on Friday it was increasingly concerned about the rise of violent ideologically motivated online rhetoric, which it blamed in part on tensions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) said since the start of the pandemic, threats posed by extremists had “evolved with unprecedented multiplicity and fluidity.”

COVID-19, it said, had worsened existing strains of xenophobia and anti-authoritarianism. Violent extremists were exploiting the pandemic by amplifying false information about government measures and the virus, it said.

Another manufactured crisis.
