‘Merry Christmas’ preferred among growing majority of Canadians, poll finds

A growing majority of Canadians favour “Merry Christmas” as a seasonal greeting, according to a new survey gauging public opinion on a range of festive questions—including when parents should have the “Santa talk” with their children.

Among respondents in the latest Research Co. survey, 67 per cent said they’re partial to “Merry Christmas,” up five percentage points from 2024, and marking a six-year high for the Christmas-specific greeting.

The more-inclusive “Happy Holidays” was preferred by 18 per cent of respondents, down six percentage points from last year, while the rest said they’re either unsure or do not care.

Do women deserve to feel safe on our streets, or don’t they?

Osman Azizov is out on bail. It cannot be, and yet, apparently, it is. Among the 14 charges against the 18-year-old Toronto man, and two alleged accomplices, are sexual assault with a weapon, attempted kidnapping, impersonating a police officer and unauthorized possession of at least one firearm.

It’s a close race, but the kidnapping allegations are perhaps the most disturbing — because who knows what might have been in store for the victims afterwards?

‘Cocaine lawyer’ accused of counselling Ryan Wedding to kill an FBI witness granted bail

A Toronto judge has granted bail to a former Ontario defence lawyer who American authorities say advised fugitive and drug kingpin Ryan Wedding to murder a federal witness.

Superior Court Justice Michael Bawden accepted Deepak Paradkar’s application for bail in a downtown Toronto courtroom on Tuesday, following a three-day hearing held earlier this month.

Waymo robotaxis stop in the streets during San Francisco power outage

A massive power outage in San Francisco over the weekend led Waymo self-driving taxis to stop working around the city.

“Significant and extensive” damage from a fire in a substation caused the Saturday afternoon outage that left more than 100,000 customers without power, utility provider PG&E said in a statement.

Videos posted to social media showed Waymo robotaxis halted in the middle of city streets and intersections with their hazard lights flashing, as traffic jams grew and drivers zigzagged around the stopped cars.

Toronto’s set to hit a 50-year low in homicides. So why do many people think crime is getting worse?

The past year has seen heartbreaking tragedy and bloodshed in Toronto.

The shooting of eight-year-old JahVai Roy, struck by a stray bullet in the perceived safety of his home this summer. The stabbing death of grandmother Shahnaz Pestonji, 71, as she loaded groceries into her car on a Thursday morning in July.

But despite such incidents that have seized the public’s attention, 2025 is in fact on track to hit a 50-year low for the number of homicides committed in a single year in the city.

Perception is influenced by quality of life issues and Toronto fails on many fronts.

The transit system is sketchy and used as an insane asylum/homeless shelter while the police are viewed as compromised by a murder cult.

Toronto’s mayor is widely regarded as the dim witted racist puppet of special interests that hate Canada.

Thanks to the federal government’s deliberately harmful mass immigration policy Toronto now resembles a 3rd World Dumpster fire where over 40% of foodbank users are non-citizens.

All of this adds up.

Poll Shows Growing Support for Sharia Law in France

A new French survey suggests that a third of Muslims living in the country believe Sharia law should be applied worldwide. And just shy of 10% of those who support this think it should be introduced through coercion or force.

While interpretations of such a system differ, its implementation would inevitably bring far-reaching changes—particularly in how Europe approaches women’s rights and, especially, free speech, which is already weakening.

A tariff exemption was Canada’s salvation in 2025. It’s ‘absolutely’ at risk in 2026

OTTAWA – U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff campaign appeared to move at a breakneck pace towards Canada’s economy this year.

But beyond threats of double-digit tariff rates and sharp pain in manufacturing-heavy industries, a key exemption has allowed the majority Canadian goods to continue to cross the southern border duty-free.

Experts who spoke to The Canadian Press warned this saving grace for the economy is at risk in 2026 as North American trade officials prepare for a review of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico agreement, or CUSMA.

Another feel-good EV disappears as automakers rethink electric dreams

Volkswagen’s most smile-inducing car — the electric reboot of its iconic hippie camper van — isn’t shipping to US dealerships in 2026.

The German automaker shelved next year’s Buzz for the US, pausing new production after just one full year on sale.

The stoppage comes as automakers reassess which electric vehicles still make sense in a market where federal subsidies of up to $7,500 were cut in September.

This can’t be good for VW’s Canadian EV operations, and all of the money tax payers were made to throw at it.
