Judge finds Inuit women were defamed by BLM activist in social media firestorm over alleged George Floyd post

In the spring of 2020, just five days after the death of George Floyd in Minnesota had kicked off massive protests over police brutality, Shania Lavallee posted a video on Snapchat of her sister Justine play-fighting with Shania’s boyfriend, as they often did.

… The facts of the case, as laid out in an Ontario Superior Court defamation ruling, show what happens when a snippet on social media is taken from its context and turned into a full-blown mobbing by total strangers. The sisters were castigated as privileged white girls from an Ottawa suburb; in fact, they are both Inuit through their mother’s side, and are registered members of the Native Alliance of Quebec.

Only fully vaccinated people to be allowed in Parliament Hill buildings — a potential problem for Conservatives

That could present a problem for Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole, who has refused to say how many of his 118 MPs are fully vaccinated.

Black girl, 10, who has ADHD was HANDCUFFED and taken to a police station for drawing an ‘offensive’ picture of another child who was bullying her

The Hawaii ACLU is demanding change after a 10-year-old Black girl who has ADHD was arrested at her elementary school after she drew an ‘offensive sketch’ of her alleged bully.

The girl, identified only as N.B., was reportedly detained and questioned by police at Honowai Elementary School in January 2020 without the presence of a parent.

She was also ‘handcuffed with excessive force’ and taken to the police station without being charged with a crime, the ACLU alleged in a letter to the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) and the state Department of Education (DOE) that was released Tuesday.

China’s Claim That Its Fractional Orbital Bombardment System Was A Spaceplane Test Doesn’t Add Up

The Chinese government has denied a recent report that the country tested a strategic weapon system that involves launching a nuclear-capable hypersonic glide vehicle into orbit before it re-enters the atmosphere to make its final flight toward its target. The country’s foreign ministry claimed that the test in question was of a reusable spaceplane, not a weapon. However, that official statement referred to a spaceplane launch in July, while the original report from the Financial Times newspaper said that the orbital bombardment system was tested in August, as you can read more about here.

Lazy crane operators making $250,000 a year exacerbating port crisis, truckers say

The finger-pointing at the busy Los Angeles County ports comes as scores of container ships are anchored off the California coast, waiting in some cases for weeks to unload their freight. The Biden administration has scrambled to get shipping executives, port officials, and labor to tackle the problem. While the reasons for the burgeoning backlog are complex, truck drivers say not everyone seems to be working together.

Never Trumpers and Black Lives Matter Have the Same Backer

Nothing says political norms like cop killers and racist terrorists.

The press releases went out on schedule and the media rewrote them into news stories. A group of “principled” Republicans was going to fundraise to support Democrat congressmen.

The stories rolled out on schedule from different media outlets while appearing nearly identical. And the real story, as usual, was not what was on the page, but what had been deliberately left out. Reuters described the Renew America Movement as a group of Never Trump Republicans “whose leadership includes former Republican Governors Christine Todd Whitman of New Jersey and Bill Weld of Massachusetts.” Hardly a single story mentioned the actual leaders.

The Left’s shameful tribalism

Reaction to the death of Sir David Amess has been dispiriting

The reaction from the political establishment to the murder of Sir David Amess has been what you might expect. Politicians and media commentators of all persuasions have been united in their condemnation of the brutal slaying of this evidently popular member of parliament. And that is, of course, how it should be.

But I detect that, deeper in the bowels of political activism, matters aren’t quite so categorical. There hasn’t, it seems to me, been the same kind of grassroots unity of purpose and solidarity accompanying Sir David’s murder as that which we saw in the wake of the dreadful assassination of Jo Cox. Fewer candles and words of unconditional condemnation, no Twitter hashtag, a little more reticence among those who were not of Sir David’s political hue.
