The Biden family’s lucrative financial relationships with the Chinese are undeniable, but now it appears that the Renaissance man, Hunter Biden, toast of the art world, has even taken a leaf from the Deng Xioaping playbook on graft.

In the 1980s, Deng Xiaoping was the chief foreign and domestic policy maker and paramount leader of the Chinese Communist Party. He held sway well into the 1990s. Deng’s secret sauce was a ladleful of authoritarian communism with a dash of capitalism shaken in by privileged gang members.

A Revolting System

One of Nikolai Bukharin’s last known observations about the Bolshevik revolution, before Stalin had him killed, was that it was driven by a hatred of the people it was supposed to serve. The revolution was supposed to create a society in which all people enjoyed the fruits of their collective production. By the end of the 1920s, Stalin’s revolution from above promised to unleash mass murder, genocide, and famine.

It is a well-known feature of history that revolutions not only eat themselves, but they unleash terror on the people. There is always a point where the aspirations that fueled the revolution slam into the reality of the human condition. Since abandoning the revolutionary vision means abandoning the revolution, the revolutionaries turn on the human condition, first on each other, then on the people.

Ariel Bradley wasn’t even the only Islamic jihadi from Chattanooga, Tennessee. On July 17, 2015, a fellow resident of the Chattanooga suburb of Hixson, Mohammad Abdulazeez, murdered four Marines at a Navy base in Chattanooga. Alhamdullilah [thanks be to Allah].” By that time, Bradley was far from Chattanooga; she was living in the domains of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria, and was calling herself Umm Aminah, that is, Aminah’s mother, after her two-year-old daughter, Aminah Mohamad. Six years later, Ariel Bradley is dead, and Aminah is being brought back to a United States that is even more riven now by the divisions and confusions that drove her mother’s life so wildly off course than it was when her mother made her fateful choices.

What the IPCC climate report doesn’t tell you

Humans have never been more safe from the impact of extreme weather than they are today.

Today, the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released the first tranche of its Sixth Assessment Report (AR6). This report, focusing on the ‘physical science basis’ of climate change, will be followed by other reports on ‘adaptation and vulnerability’ and climate-change mitigation early next year. Meanwhile, the publication today has ignited predictably excited commentary from politicians, activists and environmental journalists, who all hope that AR6 will refocus world leaders’ attention on the upcoming COP26 climate meeting later this year.

Erin O’Toole’s anti-trade, anti-business stand is at odds with his own party’s history

Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole pitches his position on free trade as a stand against the failed policies of the Liberal government. In reality, his battle is with the ghosts of his own party.
