‘It’s quite feasible to start a war’: just how dangerous are ransomware hackers?

Secretive gangs are hacking the computers of governments, firms, even hospitals, and demanding huge sums. But if we pay these ransoms, are we creating a ticking time bomb?

They have the sort of names that only teenage boys or aspiring Bond villains would dream up (REvil, Grief, Wizard Spider, Ragnar), they base themselves in countries that do not cooperate with international law enforcement and they don’t care whether they attack a hospital or a multinational corporation. Ransomware gangs are suddenly everywhere, seemingly unstoppable – and very successful.

‘Batman’ Cartoonist Frank Miller Canceled From Comic Convention For ‘Anti-Muslim Hate’

Comic book artist Frank Miller, whose credits include Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Sin City, was all set to appear at the Thought Bubble Yorkshire Comic Art Festival this November in England; in fact, he was listed first among the luminaries who were set to attend. But now he has been dropped and the great minds behind Thought Bubble have apologized for ever inviting him, because, you see, he has committed an unpardonable sin: fifteen years ago, he wrote something that some people have taken as negative toward the Left’s favored religion, Islam.

Vaccine resisters are lazy and irresponsible — we need vaccine passports now to protect the rest of us

Vaccination passports are coming.

Many Canadians object to getting vaccinated and bearing proof of their vaccination, but that’s where we’re heading.

They’re so close to realizing the vaccines don’t work, but just can’t make that final connection.

Alberta government receives Steve Allan’s final report on inquiry into oil & gas critics

… Kenney recently said he was not surprised eco-groups are criticizing the inquiry as unfair and tilted toward a prejudged outcome.

“They don’t want the public to realize they have been receiving massive amounts of money from foreign sources to shut down the largest job-creating industry in Canada,” Kenney said on July 22.

“They don’t want the disinfectant of transparency to come down on them. That’s why they went to court. Thankfully, the Court of Queen’s Bench threw their case out.”

Turkey’s government continues the systematic targeting and persecution of those perceived as “enemies” of the government.

The government of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan calls Gülen’s movement a “terrorist organization” and accuses it of carrying out an attempted coup d’état in 2016.

Stelter Drives Smear-Wagon Into the Ditch, Compares Trump ‘Cult’ to JONESTOWN

CNN hosts get incredibly overwrought about Republicans underplaying the January 6 riot as a tourist visit that got out of hand. But they have no resistance whatsoever to comparing January 6 to 9/11. Then on today’s Reliable Sources, host Brian Stelter trotted out the Jonestown massacre of 1978, where about 900 members of the People’s Temple committed a mass suicide under orders from Jim Jones. Hard-core MAGA fans apparently would do that for Trump.

Burkina Faso sees more child soldiers as jihadi attacks rise

DORI, Burkina Faso (AP) — Awoken by gunshots in the middle of the night, Fatima Amadou was shocked by what she saw among the attackers: children.

Guns slung over their small frames, the children chanted “Allahu akbar,” as they surrounded her home in Solhan town in Burkina Faso’s Sahel region. Some were so young they couldn’t even pronounce the words, Arabic for “God is great,” said the 43-year-old mother.

“When I saw the kids, what came to my mind was that (the adults) trained these kids to be assassins, and they came to kill my children,” Amadou told The Associated Press by phone from Sebba town, where she now lives.

Maher: Impracticality of White Dems Afraid of Being Called Racist Is ‘Ultimate Example of White Privilege‘

On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher argued that white Democrats “are so afraid of being called insufficiently anti-racist” that they’re afraid to talk common sense, and “it’s an indulgence to be impractical. It’s the ultimate example of white privilege.”

Facebook Rejects Illinois Police Association’s Post for “Officer of the Year,” Claiming Sensitive Racial Issues

Not all heroes wear capes, and some of them don’t look like we think.

Facebook cannot abide by this. In their version of the world, heroes to be honored must fit their goals of intersectionality and racial equity. Especially if the hero happens to be a police officer. That’s already far enough out of their paradigm; but when the officer is white? Well…

USA Gymnastics announced Sunday that the six-time Olympic medalist has opted not to compete on floor, where she won gold in Rio de Janeiro and placed second in qualifying last week.

Jennifer Gadirova of Britain will replace Biles in the finals, which are scheduled for Monday.

OK, I get the abuse/mental health thing. I get she has leave from the IOC to take restricted meds for ADHD. But you can’t help but wonder if something else is going on.
