More than 100 patients at a US nursing home and two hospitals have been infected with an untreatable fungus, including three victims who died, federal officials say.

The ongoing outbreaks of the drug-resistant “superbug,” Candida auris, at a Washington, DC, nursing home and two Dallas, Texas-area hospitals were reported by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday.

It appears that the drug-resistant strain, which brings fever and chills, spread from patient to patient for the first time in the US. Earlier cases diagnosed in New York in 2019 were also resistant to the drugs, but nothing indicated those patients had passed the bug to each other.

Two years ago, Fethi Nourine of Algeria pulled out of the 2019 Judoka World Championships when his draw lined him up against Israeli Tohar Butbul.

History repeats itself, this time at the Tokyo Olympics.

The draw for the -73kg men’s division potentially set up a matchup between the ninth-ranked Nourine and No. 6 Butbul in the second round. So Nourine, once again, withdrew from competition.

California needs to be smarter about building houses and apartments, but the facts Lowe uncovers don’t point to new housing as a solution to street homelessness.

American billionaire George Soros has donated $1 million to the Color Of Change political action committee (PAC), which campaigns for the US police to be defunded, according to Federal Election Commission’s recordings, obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. This is one of the largest known donations to a political cause by Soros this year.

The Color Of Change PAC, which calls itself the largest “online racial justice organization”, campaigns for the US police to be defunded, arguing that the institution has become obsolete and does not fulfil its function of protecting people, at least when it comes to black communities.

OTTAWA—The Green party’s interim president is blaming embattled leader Annamie Paul for the need to launch a court challenge as top officials continue their effort to depose her before they are replaced in party elections next month.

Leaked presentations reveal that Canada won’t have a national Covid-19 vaccine passport system until December 2021, at the earliest. A total lack of national infrastructure, however, means that could be delayed even further.

The internal PowerPoint presentation, prepared by the Treasury Board of Canada, reveals that even more than a year after the global pandemic hit, Canada still lags other countries in developing a system to issue and recognize proof of immunity to Covid-19.
