Child bride spared execution in Iran after blood money is paid

A child bride who was due to be executed this month in Iran over the death of her husband has had her life spared by his parents, who were paid the equivalent of £70,000 in exchange for their forgiveness.

Goli Kouhkan, 25, has been on death row in Gorgan central prison in northern Iran for the past seven years. At the age of 18 she was arrested over allegedly participating in the killing of her abusive husband, Alireza Abil, in May 2018, and sentenced to qisas – retribution-in-kind.

Taxpayer Dollars Fund Crack Pipes, Drug Paraphernalia Classified as ‘Harm Reduction Tools,’ Federal Official Confirms

The federal health department has confirmed to MPs of the health committee that taxpayer dollars fund crack pipes and other drug paraphernalia under Health Canada’s “harm reduction” programs, after saying this wasn’t the case in October.

Assistant Deputy Health Minister Kendal Weber initially told the House of Commons health committee that funding provided by Health Canada or the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) was not being used to purchase crack pipes, when questioned by Conservative MP and health critic Dan Mazier on Oct. 2.

ALBERS: Not all ideas are equal. Neither are all cultures

As a student of history, I am struck by the rise and fall of civilizations on this small celestial body we call Earth. Empires have come and gone. Kingdoms have risen in confidence and collapsed in corruption. And today, whether we care to admit it or not, we stand at the edge of the possible unravelling of what may well be the greatest civilization humanity has ever produced: the modern West.

Two defectors say Trump was right all along about Venezuela being a narcostate …

One of the worst “narratives” about Venezuela’s dictatorship revolves around whether the socialist hellhole is a narcostate, justifying President Trump’s emerging military buildup in the Caribbean, including Naval strikes on speedboats transferring state-produced cocaine to the U.S. If the Venezuelan state is, it’s a narcostate.

The Democrat-deep state-news media complex has been spreading the piece-by-piece narrative that they aren’t.

The Noxious Legacy of Andrea Dworkin

The failure of feminists to disavow Dworkin reveals the movement’s extreme misandry

A friend wrote a couple of days ago to say that he had seen shiny new copies of works by feminist author Andrea Dworkin (1946-2005) in Munro’s Books, one of Canada’s premier independent bookstores. One of the books was positioned on a shelf with the cover facing out to indicate that it was being showcased.

It is both shocking and unsurprising that Picador Books decided to reprint three of Dworkin’s texts in the past year, calling her a “prescient and visionary writer” who was “ahead of her time.” Anti-male paranoia is a sanctioned, cultivated taste more popular now, perhaps, than ever before, and Andrea Dworkin is its most notorious propagandist.

The Moral Collapse That Metal Detectors Can’t Fix

We are asking schools to act like prisons because we are raising children who behave like inmates. A fight at North Forsyth High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina made headlines in recent days, because what would have once been a routine scuffle amongst teenage boys turned deadly. It was the last altercation of one boy, because a teenager drove a knife into his classmate, causing the wounded boy to stagger away for a few steps before collapsing. He died not long after.

‘Don’t go downtown!’ Inside Canada’s small-town homeless catastrophe

Menace, addiction and human despair have overwhelmed small towns and cities. Some say it’s getting worse. Some just want to leave.

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Gigi and Nick are stoking a fire on the right bank of Twelve Mile Creek. It is the sunset hour in St. Catharines, Ont., but the atmosphere is damp and heavy from a November morning rain.

There is not another soul in sight, down here in the riverside parklands below a street called Gale Crescent, a few blocks east of downtown. For kindling, Gigi has scavenged an armful of twigs from the municipal shrubbery. She stacks it inside a makeshift hearth of flagstones and tries to get it to catch, but the twigs are wet and will not accept the flame from Nick’s pocket lighter.

NATO chief warns war with Russia ‘is at our door’ and tells Europe to be ready for action ‘now’ to avoid battle on scale ‘our grandparents and great-grandparents endured’

NATO chief Mark Rutte has warned that war with Russia ‘is at our door’ as he urged European allies to prepare for action now or risk facing a conflict on the scale ‘our grandparents and great-grandparents endured’.

Speaking in Berlin on Thursday, Rutte said too many NATO members remained ‘quietly complacent’ about the threat posed by Moscow and insisted Europe must urgently ramp up defence spending and weapons production to deter Vladimir Putin.

‘We are Russia’s next target,’ he said. I fear that too many are quietly complacent. Too many don’t feel the urgency.

Jennifer Welch is not the voice Democrats need

Jennifer Welch’s rise isn’t mysterious. It just looks that way to Democratic elites confused by a failed-reality-star-turned-podcaster commanding real influence. The reason is that she’s not interested in their rules.

The line “when they go low, we go high” defined how party leaders wanted to be seen during the first Trump administration. As technology kept eroding legacy media’s power, MAGA set about building parallel institutions. The Left, by contrast, stayed inside the gates, relying on the power it already held.

SLOBODIAN: No coffee for you — Ottawa’s DEI Ramadan rules crossed the line

So, thousands of Shared Services Canada (SSC) employees had to forgo coffee breaks and lunches during the month-long Ramadan 2025 to spare a few fasting Muslim coworkers from feeling uncomfortable.

Managers were instructed to schedule key meetings and chats around times when fasting “energy levels were low.” Work wasn’t to interfere with their pre-dawn and post-sunset Suhoor and Iftar meals.
