From Full-Size To Fun-Size: Trump Gives Kei Cars The Green Light

President Donald Trump has told federal auto regulators to clear the path for the production and sale of kei vehicles in America, following his recent trip to Asia, where he saw pint-sized cars flooding the streets.

During a White House announcement on Wednesday, where he rolled back Biden-era fuel economy mandates, Trump described the cars as reminiscent of the classic Volkswagen Beetle.

“If you go to Japan, where I just left, and if you go to South Korea and Malaysia and other countries, they have a very small car—sort of like the Beetle used to be with the Volkswagen—they’re very small, they’re really cute, and I said, ‘How would that do in this country?’” Trump said in a clip reposted by X user Acyn, while he was flanked by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and auto executives from Ford and Stellantis.

Christine Van Geyn: Changes to Bill C-9 aren’t combating hate — they’re criminalizing faith

To secure Bloc Québécois support for its censorious Bill C-9, the Liberals have reportedly agreed to a troubling trade: removing the long-standing religious defence from Canada’s hate-speech laws. This would be a mistake.

Bill C-9, the Carney government’s combating hate act, would expand criminal prohibitions on expression and increase penalties for speech offences, including online speech. Now, the bill may also gut the defence that protects good-faith religious opinion or speech rooted in religious texts.

‘You are a very bad minister,’ Conservative immigration critic says at tense committee meeting

Immigration Minister Lena Diab sparred with her Conservative critic at a tense House of Commons committee meeting Thursday as the two disagreed on everything from immigration levels and deporting non-citizen criminals to what kind of salad they prefer.

Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner put Diab in the hot seat throughout her two-hour committee appearance, grilling Diab about her file and accusing her of being “a very bad minister” when she struggled to give a clear answer on whether she will use powers under the government’s pending C-12 legislation to mass extend temporary visas.

Racialized immigrants report lower well-being in Canada, study shows and the only solution is to fleece Whitey

A new study suggests Canada’s high global ranking on life satisfaction masks important gaps, especially for racialized immigrants, who report significantly lower well-being than Canadian-born, non-racialized residents.

The research, conducted by the Population Health Research Institute, a joint institute of McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences, draws on data from more than 8,000 adults and uses the Cantril Ladder, a global scale where people rate their life from 0 (worst possible) to 10 (best possible).

Pope denounces ‘fear’ of Islam, says ‘it is possible to live together, to be friends’

In saying this, and basing it upon the example of Lebanon, Pope Leo shows that he knows nothing about the recent history of Lebanon, or about the teachings of Islam regarding Christianity and other religions. And when one is ignorant, it is more prudent to keep silent than to spout views that are not only absurd, but dangerous when implemented.

Canadian company’s armoured-vehicle production for ICE taking place in U.S.

The Canadian company building armoured vehicles for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is doing so in the United States – which likely places the products out of the reach of Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister.

Human-rights advocates are expressing concern over the prospect of the company equipping an American agency known for its aggressive enforcement tactics under the Trump administration’s mass-deportation campaign. NDP MP Jenny Kwan had said that Canada should block the sale of these vehicles.

There’s no end in sight for Canada’s housing crisis

Even if we double home building, buying a house is expected to become less affordable for nearly half the country

The federal government wants to build 480,000 homes a year over the next decade to restore housing affordability to pre-pandemic levels. That’s double our normal rate and a pace not seen since the Second World War.

They’ve put some money and resources behind the effort: Along with the new federal agency Build Canada Homes, Budget 2025 included other measures to ramp up activity, such as a fund only accessible to provinces that lower construction-related taxes.
