Bible verse on pastor’s campervan ‘could be hate speech’

A church leader has claimed the police warned him that that Bible verses on the back of his campervan could be considered “hate speech”.

Mick Fleming, 59, said he was approached by a police officer who commented on his campervan while he was at a petrol station in Burnley, on Oct 27.

Mr Fleming, who recently gave up all of his belongings and now lives in a van, has the Bible verse John 3:16 emblazoned on the back of it.

Chairman Chow defends calling Gaza war a genocide

Mayor Olivia Chow on Tuesday defended her recent remarks on the war in Gaza that have sparked complaints to both the provincial human rights tribunal and the city’s integrity commissioner.

At a charity gala hosted by the National Council of Canadian Muslims on Saturday, Chow gave a speech, in which she described what has transpired in Gaza as a genocide, a characterization that has been the subject of fierce debate through the war.

“The genocide in Gaza impacts us all,” Chow said, adding “our common bond of shared humanity is tested. And I will speak out when children anywhere are feeling pain and violence and hunger.”

By the numbers: Here’s what needs to happen in a budget vote to avoid an election

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government was elected just a few seats shy of a majority, meaning the Liberals will need the co-operation of one of the opposition parties to pass their budget.

The budget is considered a confidence vote, meaning the government will fall if it fails to pass and Canada would be heading for a second election this year.

While the Liberals gained an extra vote on the same day the budget dropped, — via former Conservative MP Chris d’Entremont crossing the floor — the Liberals are still a couple votes short of a majority in the House.

FARROW: Ottawa’s anti-church tax plan would punish the poor

When Parliament’s finance committee slipped Recommendation #430 into its 2025 pre-budget report, few noticed. Yet the clause proposing to delete “advancement of religion” from Canada’s definition of charity could transform the country’s social landscape. If adopted, every church, synagogue, mosque, and temple would be taxed like a business and lose its authority to issue receipts to donors.

Pub seen in Reform video told to paint over St George’s Cross

A Lib Dem council demanded a pub remove its St George’s Cross painted on its white exterior an hour after it was featured in a Reform UK promotional video.

Jerry Kunkler, the landlord of Moonrakers Inn in Pewsey, Wiltshire, since 1981 and the county’s longest-serving councillor, painted the current cross on the pub for the World Cup in 2022.

However, he received orders to paint over it almost immediately after it was seen as a backdrop in a Reform video.

Thinking of adding solar panels to your home? Here’s what this Ontario man learned after spending $50,000 on them

In the push for green energy, more people are installing solar panels, given that there are government incentives and rebates that can help with the cost.

However, before buying them, there are many factors to consider. They may lower your electricity bill, but it could take a long time to break even and installing them could affect your home’s resale value and insurance premiums.

What a waste.

‘This is disgusting’: N.S. Premier slams judge’s order prohibiting poppies while on duty

Nova Scotia’s premier is slamming a recent order prohibiting workers in certain court facilities from wearing poppies while on duty.

In a post on his X account, Premier Tim Houston said the order was issued under the guise that the poppy is a political statement.

“This is disgusting,” he said. “The poppy is not a political statement. It is a symbol of remembrance and respect for the fallen and those who served and continue to serve our country. Poppies have been worn in Canada since 1921.”

Trump Is Not To Blame For Democrats Electing Violent Extremists

While liberal America is justifiably triumphant about Tuesday night’s election results, a lot of professionals are quietly worried about extremism infecting the party. Certainly, electing a mayor of New York who’s an unfortunate hellbroth of communism, Islamism, and “defund the police,” is not someone you want defining your party nationally.
