Charlie Kirk’s Assassination and a New Great Awakening

The title to this essay is a line from Tolkien. But I’m also reminded of two distinct lines from Star Wars, paired:

If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

I dunno, I can imagine an awful lot.

Charlie Kirk was a powerful force. He went from campus to campus and he talked to people. Generally when he was debating, he would put his microphone down, to reassure his partner that he wasn’t going to talk over them. He was respectful, and he was highly effective. He played a major role in winning over Gen Z to the conservative side. That’s why he was killed — murdered. He was murdered not because he was “hateful,” or “extreme,” but because he was effective.

AOC Becomes De Facto House Minority Leader

The Charlie Kirk Resolution proved she controls more votes than Hakeem Jeffries.

Before last Friday’s House vote on a symbolic resolution condemning the assassination of Charlie Kirk and all forms of political violence while honoring his life, the purported leaders of the Democratic Caucus informed its members that they would support the measure. Yet, in a truly vile floor speech prior to the vote, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y) called the resolution “reckless” and claimed Kirk’s “rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant, uneducated, and sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans.” In the end, less than half of the Democrats voted for the resolution. The rest stood with AOC.

Jamie Sarkonak: Even Americans are getting Canadian Aboriginal rights now

Indian Money Dance

It may surprise you, citizen reader, that there are Americans out there who hold deeper constitutional rights in Canada than you. It’s because they’re Indigenous, and because the Supreme Court decided in 2021 that they should receive special privileges. Now, despite being foreign, they’re using their newfound esteem in Canadian courts to intervene in what kids are taught in school.

Qatar’s Arab-Islamic Summit: Hypocrites and Cowards

Leaders of several Arab and Islamic countries held an emergency summit in Doha on September 15 to discuss Israel’s “aggression” against Qatar. The reference was to the recent Israeli attack on senior Hamas leaders in Qatar. The summit was held at the request of Qatar, the only Gulf state that has long been providing shelter and financial and political aid to the leaders of Hamas, the Iran-backed terror group that carried out the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. The assault resulted in the murder of more than 1,200 Israelis and foreign nationals and the wounding of thousands. Another 251 Israelis and foreigners were kidnapped to the Gaza Strip, where 48 – dead and alive – remain in Hamas’s captivity.

MSNBC’s Al Sharpton Insists Motive to Charlie Kirk Killing Still Unknown

MSNBC pre-empted portions of their regularly-scheduled programming in order to carry the memorial for Charlie Kirk, held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. During one of these segments where they broke back in for “analysis”, the Reverend Al Sharpton suggested, without evidence, that the motive and “political leanings” of the killer are somewhat unknown.

‘Hamas State’: Tories Say Ottawa’s Recognition of Palestine Statehood Rewards Terrorism

The Conservative Party says Canada’s recognition of Palestinian statehood rewards Hamas’s acts of terrorism and that the federal government should instead be focused on issues of importance at home.

“Prime Minister Mark Carney’s priority is creating a Hamas state that will reward terrorists for raping civilians, taking hostages, oppressing Palestinians and launching a war,” the Conservatives said in a statement on Sept. 21.

Jimmy Kimmel set to return to ABC on Tuesday after being yanked off air over Charlie Kirk comments

The Walt Disney Company announced Monday that “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” will return to air on Tuesday following a weeklong suspension over his monologue about Charlie Kirk’s murder.

In a statement, Disney said it halted production last Wednesday “to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country.” The company added that “some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive.”

Ford government lays out demands for bail, sentencing reform ahead of new federal legislation

The Ontario government has outlined a series of measures it wants to see from the federal government’s upcoming legislation meant to tighten bail reform and sentencing rules.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk meet and shake hands months after messy split

Donald Trump met with billionaire Elon Musk, his once trusted adviser with whom the president had a spectacular public falling out, at a memorial event for right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, raising speculation that the two could be reconciling.

Trump shook hands with and chatted to Musk, who once led the president’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which took a hatchet to the US federal workforce and agencies in the early months of Trump’s second administration.

Restaurants under pressure as Canadians dine out less to save money: report

A new report shows restaurants are under pressure as consumers steer away from dining out, while rising operational costs squeeze profit margins.

A new Restaurants Canada report finds three in four Canadians are eating out less, often because of the high cost of living. That share is even higher among those aged 18 to 34 at 81 per cent.

Restaurants Canada chief executive Kelly Higginson says it’s an “alarming” trend for the food service industry.

Cost and out of control tipping are huge factors but for me 3rd world staffing via the TFW etc… creates an unease nearly impossible to overcome.

Asylum claims in Canada are down nearly 40 per cent in 2025. Here’s why

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Imagine a Western country declaring it has zero irregular migration. It sounds impossible, but that is exactly what the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claimed last month.

“More than 200 days into this job, we have achieved operational security at the border,” the DHS website touted, echoing U.S. President Donald Trump’s oft-made claims of having halted illegal migration. “Zero illegal immigrants were released into the country in May, June, and July.”

Rifts in Gaza flotilla? Greta Thunberg removed from leadership committee

Climate activist Greta Thunberg was removed from the Global Sumud Flotilla’s Steering Committee last week, and the mission’s spokesperson left the Gaza-bound vessels amid a reorientation of communications priorities.

Thunberg, who joined a previous run of the Israeli naval blockade around Gaza in June with the Madleen, appeared on the GSF’s website as part of its leadership committee until at least last Sunday. Il Manifesto, which has a correspondent aboard one of the flotilla vessels, reported on Tuesday that Thunberg was seen dragging her suitcase along a Tunis dock to transfer from the Steering Committee flagship Family to another vessel, the Alma.

Recognition of Palestinian state puts Canada at odds with U.S.

Canada, Britain and Australia officially recognized a Palestinian state on Sunday, a co-ordinated effort to put pressure on Israel as it wages war in Gaza, and to revive the chances of a two-state solution to the conflict.

Portugal followed suit with a similar statement later in the day, and France is expected to issue its recognition Monday.

The decision by Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government puts it at odds with this country’s most important ally, the United States, and represents a significant shift in Canadian foreign policy, which previously held that such recognition would come only after a negotiated peace agreement between Israeli and Palestinian leaders.
