Canada weighing recognition of Palestinian statehood: source

The Canadian government is weighing whether to recognize Palestinian statehood, and whether that recognition would come with conditions, according to a government source.

No decision has been made yet, the source says, but Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to hold a virtual cabinet meeting Wednesday afternoon, at which time the situation in the Middle East will be discussed.

EU Accused of Silence Over Islamist Violence Against Christians

Brussels officials are never lost for words on Gaza or the war in Ukraine. But critics say it is another matter entirely when it comes to the persecution of foreign Christians, especially by Islamists.

Dutch conservative MEP Bert-Jan Ruissen said on Monday that the European Union—as well as other international communities—is “far too silent about jihadist violence against Christians.”

Two wanted for assault at Brampton waterpark

Two suspects are wanted in connection to an assault at a Brampton waterpark last week.

Peel police say they were called to a waterpark in the area of Steeles and Finch avenues just after 6:20 p.m. on July 23 for reports of an altercation.

It’s alleged the incident began as a verbal dispute while in line for a waterslide which escalated into a violent assault against a female victim by two suspects.

Keir Starmer: UK ready to recognise Palestinian state within weeks

Sir Keir Starmer has announced that Britain is prepared to join France in formally recognising a Palestinian state in September, in the face of mounting pressure from his cabinet and backbenchers.

The prime minister said that the UK could recognise Palestine as soon as the UN general assembly in September, unless Israel takes “substantive steps to end the appalling situation in Gaza”.

Starmer discussed the plans with President Trump on Monday in response to concerns that Gaza is on the brink of a “humanitarian catastrophe”, experiencing mass starvation.

CHARLEBOIS: Why DoorDash’s price tactics should worry us all

Some may dismiss food delivery users as lazy, but that stereotype ignores reality. Many Canadians rely on apps like DoorDash or UberEats not by choice, but out of necessity — due to limited mobility, demanding schedules, or even inclement weather.

What’s truly lazy is the platform’s approach to pricing transparency. Abusive pricing is abusive pricing, regardless of convenience.

Pity they weren’t held simultaneously!

Windsor Ramadan dinner and LGBT art event part of King’s diversity drive

A Ramadan meal and an LGBT+ history month lecture at Windsor Castle this year have been hailed as exemplifying the King’s “momentous” commitment to diversity.

The Royal Collection Trust – which oversees the upkeep of the royal palaces – said in its annual report, released on Tuesday, that “inclusion and diversity was a key priority this year” as it hosted a series of religious and LGBT+ celebrations.

For the first time in its 1,000-year history, Windsor Castle hosted an Open Iftar meal in its state apartments to mark the breaking of fast for Muslims during Ramadan. Last autumn, it hosted an inaugural Diwali Family Day including prayers from the head priest of the Slough Hindu Temple.

Canada’s leading Trans-activist suffers legal set back!

The Ontario Human Rights Tribunal on July 28 dismissed a complaint by a transgender activist against a beauty pageant company for not being included in the competition.

The complaint was brought in 2019 by Jessica Simpson (born Jonathan Yaniv and going by Jessica Yaniv at the time) against Canada Galaxy Pageants (CGP) after the company asked Simpson for proof of full transition from male to female before being allowed to compete in its beauty pageant.

The Russia Collusion Hoax Is Worse Than You Think

It’s beginning to look like the Obama administration was all-in on the Russia collusion hoax long before Trump won the 2016 election.

On Monday, Fox News reported that before the FBI ever launched its politicized probe of the Trump campaign’s possible ties to Russia in the summer of 2016, U.S. intelligence agencies had “credible foreign sources” indicating the FBI would help spread the Russia collusion hoax,  which of course is exactly what happened.

It’s the latest twist in a string of shocking new revelations about how the U.S. intelligence community, at the behest of then-President Barack Obama, manufactured and disseminated a false narrative that Moscow was working to get Trump elected in 2016.

The police can’t control Britain’s streets

Spineless senior officers need the sack

If the asylum-seeker protests now sweeping England are a dream come true for the online Right, the police response is even more tantalising. From the hastily formed “elite” squads monitoring online sentiment to the allegations that officers facilitated trollish counter-demonstrators in Epping, conspiracists can easily claim that the powers-that-be are conniving to keep anti-migrant activism down. Yet the truth, like most heady narratives, is far more prosaic. Far from crushing innocent protesters with an iron fist, British police forces are actually afflicted by a crippling institutional paralysis — one that could yet overwhelm them.

Why wasn’t Axel Rudakubana stopped?

The Southport killer was enabled by our feckless, decrepit state.

On this day last year, Axel Rudakubana took a taxi to a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport, Merseyside. Within 15 minutes of arriving, he savagely murdered three young children, attempted to murder eight more, and attacked two adults who tried to stop him. Had they not managed to escape, thanks largely to the bravery of the adults at the scene, all 26 girls would almost certainly have been murdered.

What al-Sharaa’s Army Did to the Druze in Sweida

After the IDF went into action to stop Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s army from continuing its bloodbath in Sweida, by bombing 160 sites in Sweida itself, and in Damascus, hitting the army headquarters and a place close to the presidential palace by way of a warning, the Syrian dictator pulled his troops back and declared, despite the mounting evidence to the contrary, that he was the true “protector of the Druze.” Not many Druze in Syria, and none in Israel, believe him. The latest report on how the Druze are reeling from attacks by al-Sharaa’s army can be found here: “Bodies and looted homes: Syria’s Druze reeling after Sweida bloodshed,” Reuters, July 18, 2025:

No we don’t …

We need an official policy prohibiting removal of at-risk trans and non-binary people to the U.S.

The Canadian refugee process is often praised for its fairness, efficiency and commitment to human rights. It is the main avenue for trans and non-binary people around the world to seek safety after fleeing persecution in their countries of nationality. But for trans and non-binary Americans who fear for their lives in the United States, the ability to access Canada’s refugee system is far less clear. So far, it seems, the Canadian government is less willing to acknowledge the threats facing trans and non-binary people throughout the U.S.
