‘It was so unreal’: Norwegian man wakes to cargo ship in his garden

A Norwegian man has spoken of the “unreal” moment he woke up to discover that a 135-metre container ship had crashed into his front garden.

The cargo vessel, the NCL Salten, had run aground just before 5am on Thursday after entering the Trondheim fjord on its way to the western town of Orkanger.

An astonished neighbour watched as the ship, which was travelling at about 16 knots (approximately 30km/h), headed straight for the shore into Johan Helberg’s garden, narrowly missing his house.

President Donald Trump’s ‘rare earths deal’ with Ukrainian President Volodmyr Zelensky officially comes into force on Friday May 23rd. While much has been said about what this deal might mean for the prospects of peace between Ukraine and Russia, there has been far less discussion about how the struggle to control rare earth elements (REEs) fits into the wider geopolitical contest involving China and the West.

Jussie Smollett pays $50K to charity to settle with Chicago six years after ‘hate crime’ hoax

Jussie Smollett has reached a settlement with the city of Chicago over the 2019 ‘hate crime’ hoax lawsuit.

Smollett was convicted in December 2021 for lying to police about an alleged episode in Chicago two years before, where he claimed two men beat him, yelled homophobic slurs and placed a noose around his neck while wearing MAGA hats.

The former Empire actor’s, 42, conviction was overturned last year due to a due process violation.

Canadians were promised a foreign agent registry — so where is it?

When Parliament passed a sweeping national security bill last June, the Liberal government promised to establish a foreign influence transparency registry to convict proxies trying to meddle in Canadian politics.

But nearly a year later, it remains unclear how soon the office will be up and running

“I think it’s a huge vulnerability that needs to be addressed and needs to be fixed,” said Dennis Molinaro, a former national security analyst with the federal government who now teaches at Ontario Tech University.

Carney’s cronies won’t want that.

5 Years On, What the Media Need to Know About George Floyd

Be prepared for the twisting of the facts by the legacy media.

For the last five years, the legacy media reported the death of George Floyd no more honestly than they did the health of Joe Biden. The conservative media have only lately attempted to set the record straight, but few among them know the story well enough to counter leftist propaganda.

Saturday, May 25, marks the fifth anniversary of Floyd’s death. The legacy media will take the lead in reviving this story and spinning it. The conservative media — and the White House — need to know how to respond. Some food for thought.

Geoff Russ: Canada’s populist movement will have its day

Unless Carney addresses issues such as affordability and immigration, grassroots anger will eventually bring his government down

Canada’s populist moment did not come to pass — at least not yet.

Having deluded themselves into believing that the status quo is tenable, many on the left celebrated the result of the recent federal election as proof that Canada could withstand the wave of anti-establishment politics that has swept the West in recent years.

“Allahu Akbar” and “Free Palestine”: It’s the Clash of Civilizations, idiots

Threatened churches, Islamized schools, converted temples, massacres in Jewish museums: Islamic culture does not think the way we do.

A group of young people storm a church in Avignon, France, shouting “Allahu Akbar” and threatening to set it on fire. The police are forced to put the church under protection. Don Milan says that the young people hurled insults against Christianity. “They shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ and repeated to us several times: ‘We will return and burn your church'”.

In Rouen, Normandy, other “young people” entered during Mass and slaughtered the priest, Jacques Hamel.

There are countless churches under police protection in France, from Indre to Yvelines.

Trump threatens 50% tariffs on EU and 25% on iPhones

US President Donald Trump has said he is recommending a 50% tariff on all goods from the European Union being imported to the United States.

“Our discussions with them are going nowhere!” he wrote in a post on social media on Friday. He said the new tariffs would kick in on 1 June.

The announcement marks an escalation of Trump’s trade war with the EU. He initially proposed a 20% tariff on most EU goods, but halved it to 10% until 8 July to allow time for talks.

The president also threatened to impose a 25% import tax “at least” on iPhones not manufactured in America.
