2 teens charged with abduction after stealing car with baby, child inside: Toronto police

Rough crowd

Two teenagers are facing several charges after allegedly stealing a car that had a young child and baby inside.

Officers were called to the area of Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West around 3:30 p.m. Thursday after getting reports of a stolen vehicle.

Police said a woman was putting groceries into her car when a 13-year-old male allegedly jumped in the running vehicle and drove away. A four-year-old child and seven-month-old baby were inside at the time.

I used to live in that area back when Lawrence and Weston was like a prosperous small town downtown.

The neighborhood demographics changed as businesses started pulling out or closing, Loblaws, the Beer & the Liquor Store, Beaver Lumber, Countrystyle Donuts and the Odeon movie theatre.

Weston Road never recovered. It’s a ghetto now, shootings, stabbings etc. are a regular occurrence.

All that’s left is crappy dollar stores and vibrant diversity.

Trump Derangement Syndrome Meltdown of the Week — ZOMG ‘ENVIRONMENTAL APOCALYPSE’ Edition

triggered TDS Trump Derangement

After a brief, unintentional hiatus to close out January, my new favorite column to write is back to kick off February in style.

Speaking of hiatuses, we will also be taking a break from the “Trump is Hitler!” stuff for this column. There are other conservatives who deserve a chance to be called “Hitler” by the unstable leftists in media, after all. Donald Trump can’t hog all of the goose step epithets.

Asylum seekers coming through Montreal airport in record numbers

Roxham Road, a notorious unofficial border crossing, might be closed but as advocates predicted, asylum seekers have found another way to enter Canada in record numbers: Montreal’s Trudeau Airport.

Arturo Nava is fresh off a flight from Mexico City, ready to start a new life in Canada.

The petrochemical engineer came on a tourist visa, but as soon as he landed in Montreal, he requested refugee status.

Sweden investigates ‘terrorist’ act near Israeli embassy

Sweden on Friday said it has launched a terrorism investigation into an object found at the Israeli Embassy in Stockholm earlier this week.

“The preliminary investigation launched by the Swedish Police Authority on January 31, following the discovery of a dangerous object at the Israeli Embassy in Stockholm, has been taken over by the Swedish Security Service,” the Swedish Security Service, also known as SAPO, announced.

“In connection with this, the criminal classification has been changed to a terrorist crime,” SAPO added.

No, for sure, I believe Justin Trudeau is the right leader for the Liberals

No one should listen to Newfoundland MP Ken McDonald, who said in an interview with Radio-Canada last month that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should face some sort of leadership review.

“Every leader, every party has a best-before date. Our best-before date is here,” he said.

“So you think at least there should be a leadership review in the Liberal Party?” Radio-Canada reporter Laurence Martin asked.

“Yes,” Mr. McDonald responded.

Toronto police to make “very difficult choices” following city budget reveal

Toronto’s police chief says he’s “disappointed” following the unveiling of Mayor Oliva Chow’s budget draft, which does not include the police service’s recommended operating budget for 2024, a move he says will significantly impact public safety.

On Thursday, Chow unveiled her version of the city’s 2024 budget, which left out the $20 million boost that the Toronto Police Service had previously requested. Instead, it maintains city staff’s recommendation of a $7.4 million increase, a move that police Chief Myron Demkiw called disappointing.

There goes the Tim’s budget!

‘Abandon Biden’: Democrats turn on president over support for Israel

There was a time when he’d have jumped at the chance – not today, not with this president.

Alabas Farhat, Democratic representative for the state of Michigan, declined the invitation for a “meet and greet” with Joe Biden and he wasn’t alone.

Arab Muslim community leaders in the greater Detroit area snubbed the campaign visit to their neighbourhood. The problem they have is Mr Biden’s support for Israel in the war with Hamas and his opposition to a ceasefire.

John Ivison: University instructor fights back after being suspended for daring to denounce Hamas

The reason academic politics are so bitter is because so little is at stake, it’s said.

But to Paul Finlayson the stakes of his suspension from the University of Guelph-Humber are high indeed. Teaching is his career and his passion, and it has been taken away from him, without process or explanation, by an employer that appears to have been cowed by cancellers and bullies.

Trudeau condemns mosque attack, says Islamophobia ‘has no place’

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday condemned an attack against a mosque in the city of Mississauga, which is being probed as a hate crime and which rights advocates described as being part of a rise in Islamophobia.

Police said someone threw two rocks through the window of a Mississauga mosque on Sunday, on the eve of the anniversary of a mosque attack in Quebec city that killed six people in 2017. CBC News said no one was injured in the incident.

“Islamophobia has no place in any of our communities,” Trudeau said on X, formerly called Twitter.

No proof it was hate motivated, but like the Hijab hoax truth doesn’t matter to Trudeau.

UNRWA nominated for Nobel Peace Prize, amid allegations workers took part in Oct. 7

OSLO, Norway — A Norwegian politician said Thursday that he has nominated the UN Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA, embroiled in a controversy over the alleged involvement of employees in the Hamas-led October 7 terror onslaught against Israel, for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Labour MP Asmund Aukrust told the Dagbladet newspaper he had nominated the UN Relief and Works Agency “for its long-term work to provide vital support to Palestine and the region in general.”

So that’s what you get for having 10% of your staff terrorists!

The Chowtown Effect? A record high number of new condos are going unsold in the GTA

Faltering pre-construction condo sales and a record high inventory of unsold suites across the Greater Toronto Area could spell doom for Ontario’s planned housing boom, a new data study shows.

“We’re moving in the opposite direction from where we should be going,” said Shaun Hildebrand, president of Urbanation, a real estate consulting firm that released the results of its 2023 fourth-quarter condo market survey on Thursday.

“The majority of new housing in GTA is in the form of condo sales. If condo sales slow, it will slow down new development for the region.”

That’s a lot of unsold condos.

In my immediate area running between Kipling & Islington along or just off  Dundas/Bloor there are about 9 or 10 builds one of which is a city “geared to income” rental project and another a privately operated seniors building. Only about 5 are being actively worked.

Further west on Dundas there are projects slated for future development including a 6 tower condo build at Cloverdale Mall and one site laughably described as an “Exciting rental opportunity.” If abandoned malls and car dealerships are your thing then that’s the rental location for you!

Is this dearth of condo sales solely due to interest rates or is this slump due to the Chowtown effect?

Perhaps people have decided they don’t want to live in an overpriced under serviced falling down dying city.
