Chief says excavation of Manitoba church basement found no evidence of human remains

No evidence of human remains has been found during the excavation of a Catholic church basement on the site of a former Manitoba residential school.

Chief Derek Nepinak of Minegoziibe Anishinabe shared the results of the four-week excavation in a social media video Friday. He said the outcome takes “nothing away from the difficult truths experienced by our families who attended the residential school in Pine Creek.”

Fourteen anomalies were detected using ground-penetrating radar in the basement of the church on the site of the former Pine Creek Residential School last year. Survivors had spoken about “horror stories” in the basement.

Microsoft pulls article recommending Ottawa Food Bank to tourists

Microsoft has removed an article that advised tourists to visit the “beautiful” Ottawa Food Bank on an empty stomach, after facing ridicule about the company’s reliance on artificial intelligence for news.

But an unnamed Microsoft spokesperson later blamed the article’s publication on “human error,” rather than “unsupervised AI.”

Published last week and titled “Headed to Ottawa? Here’s what you shouldn’t miss!” the article listed 15 must-see attractions for visitors to the capital.

I don’t see what’s wrong. Ottawa has little to recommend it.

Germany under fire for dropping Nato spending pledge

Germany’s government has been criticised for an “absurd” plan to present interest payments as defence expenses after stepping back from pledges to hit Nato spending targets.

Berlin abandoned a legally binding commitment to spend 2 per cent of GDP on defence in a last-minute reversal on Wednesday, a government official told Reuters.

An objection to the clause, which had been part of a new budget financing law, was reportedly raised by the foreign ministry. The ministry is run by the Green party in Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s three-way coalition government.

Terry Glavin: Mélanie Joly pushes conspiracy theories about Pierre Poilievre

While our American neighbours are transfixed with the high-drama prospect of Donald Trump’s return to the White House next year, up here in Canada our government is considering “scenarios.” And one aspect of these scenarios, according to Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly, is the “radicalization” of Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives.

During an interview with a Montreal radio station Wednesday, Joly hinted at a “game plan” in the event that the Nov. 5, 2024 presidential election produces ominous results, about which Joly spoke ominously. One scenario might be a “difficult situation.” Whatever happens, there will be mayors involved, and premiers. People like that.

Who thinks having the Cat Lady review secrets is a good idea?

Elizabeth May frustrated by lack of detail in top secret documents on foreign interference

“We don’t know their motives. We don’t know who they are and they seem to think that they can be protected by their own narrative that they’re whistleblowers,” said May. “I don’t buy it.

“Every Canadian should care to ensure that our security and intelligence establishment be reliable, that the people who work there take their oath seriously.”

The CSIS Whistleblower performed an invaluable  public service in shining a light on China’s influence over a corrupt Liberal government and in revealing the extent of the rot caused by Canada’s China class. May is unfit to carry water for the unknown CSIS staffer.

Joe Biden Isn’t Going to Be the Democratic Nominee

The growing Joe Biden–Hunter Biden influence-peddling and corruption scandal has surprised me. Not, I should be clear, because I thought that Joseph R. Biden — the lifelong pol and Democratic Party hack — was clean as a whistle; I’m surprised the story has developed the way that it has because I have long thought that any truly damning evidence of the scandal would be buried under a mountain of indifference on the part of the mainstream press and by a Biden Department of Justice patently uninterested in looking into the facts.
