Vehicle theft, robberies driving uptick in crime across Canada: StatCan

Canada saw a surge in vehicle theft and robberies in 2022, as police-reported crime rose for the second successive year.

A new report released by Statistics Canada on Thursday showed that the incidence and severity of crime – as measured by the Crime Severity Index (CSI) – in the country increased by four per cent compared to the previous year.

Labour council using diesel generators to charge electric bin lorries

A council has been using diesel generators to charge its new electric bin lorry fleet after a problem with their charging stations.

Cardiff Council started transitioning to electric vehicles for its waste collection in 2021 as part of its efforts to hit net zero by 2030.

But it was forced to admit that it was charging the vehicles using diesel generators after a local resident spotted the backup power.

14 Indian nationals caught fleeing Trudeaupia by US border patrol

A mysterious cellphone, cryptic instructions and an interrupted smuggling run of 14 Indian nationals

U.S. Border Patrol agents recently disrupted an attempted smuggling run moving 14 Indian nationals from Canada into the U.S. across the Quebec-New York State border, court records show.

This was one of the largest interceptions of Indian nationals by the U.S. Border Patrol in a single smuggling event over the past three years along this area of the Canada-U.S. border, according to U.S. federal court records.

Biden ignores questions about the collapse of Hunter’s plea deal, turns his back on the press

President Joe Biden faced reporters for the first time since a federal judge picked apart a plea deal that would keep his son Hunter out of prison, turning away amid a barrage of inquiries.

The president appeared at the White House Thursday to discuss the heat emergency scorching parts of the nation, but got grilled himself amid the sudden legal turmoil for his son.

Among questions he faced was one about whether he would pardon his son, who continues to face legal jeopardy after a federal prosecutor said in court the investigation of him is ‘ongoing.’

Ottawa can’t wash its hands of Toronto’s refugee crisis

Here’s a short list of things that Ottawa spends money on but has no constitutional responsibility for: health care, child care, new fridges for big grocery companies, and Gen Y tech consultants for small businesses.

Not on that list, however, is full-fledged support to pay for the rapidly mounting costs of immigration – borders and immigration being, when last we checked, within the ambit of the federal government.

Scientists who signed a paper claiming a natural origin for Covid-19 turn out not to have believed it themselves.

The Covid Lab-Leak Deception

The controversy over the origins of Covid-19 refuses to die, despite efforts early in the pandemic to kill it. It was natural to doubt it was a coincidence that an outbreak caused by a SARS-like coronavirus from bats began in Wuhan, China, the only city where risky experiments were being done on diverse and novel SARS-like coronaviruses from bats. The Chinese Communist Party did its utmost to dismiss such suspicions, but so did a group of influential Western scientists.

Hunter Biden’s Sweetheart Plea Deal Blows Up

A plea agreement between the president’s son and the president’s Justice Department was never going to serve the public interest.

Does this mean he goes to trial now?”

This was one of the questions I was naturally asked while doing some legal analysis of the Delaware Demolition in which Hunter Biden’s sweetheart plea deal went up in smoke on Wednesday.

My reply: “Go to trial . . . on what?”

That should be a dumb question to which the usual answer is, “The indictment, of course.” But see, here’s the thing: President Biden’s Justice Department has never filed an indictment against President Biden’s son. Why? Well, for the same reason the sweetheart deal blew up. The fatal flaw of the agreement written by Biden prosecutors is that it failed to describe in detail the criminal charges for which Hunter Biden was receiving immunity.

Digital oligarchs have weaponised the banks

Corporate behemoths have given up on the pretence of neutrality

The debanking of Nigel Farage demonstrates the power of a law that is already being enforced without having been formalised. Found guilty of crimes by state censors, secret committees of bureaucrats, or inscrutable algorithms, individuals can be disconnected and de-personed by institutions that they didn’t realise possessed such powers. Today it is banks terminating customers for their beliefs; tomorrow it may be primary schools and hospitals. The powerful consensus that once upheld the neutrality of key institutions as essential to maintaining peace in liberal societies is collapsing.

Ukraine’s counteroffensive gambit tests Russia across the front

A Ukrainian push to break through heavily fortified Russian lines in the southeast of the country is likely to be the “opening salvo” in a larger battle that has drawn comparisons to the Normandy landings.

Fierce battles are under way in the Zaporizhzhia region, involving thousands of western-trained and equipped Ukrainian reinforcements in what appears to be the most significant phase so far of Kyiv’s counteroffensive.

Despite having to overcome huge minefields, bunkers and tank traps, as well as blistering artillery and airstrikes, Ukrainian brigades have made some limited progress in a number of areas south of the town of Orikhiv, according to analysts and pro-war military bloggers in Moscow.

Climate cult’s crazed attack on white men

ADDRESSING a rally last weekend to protest against plans for a camp for 1,000-plus male Channel-crossing migrants to be sited in Bexhill-on-Sea,  I noticed a subtle but significant change in the placards of the usual small gathering of counter-protesters. Instead of ‘refugees welcome here’, the new slogan of the self-declared anti-racists was ‘climate refugees welcome’ (my italics). The purported climate crisis and progressive ideology of identity politics have come together in this latest onslaught on traditional society.

“Transifa” Terror on the Rise

Victims of Audrey Hale’s Nashville attack provide evidence of what is to come.

Four months ago on March 27, Audrey Hale shot her way into the Covenant School in Nashville and gunned down nine-year-olds Evelyn Dieckhaus, William Kinney and Hallie Scruggs, daughter of Chad Scruggs, senior pastor at the Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Hale, a woman who thought she was a man, also shot dead Katherine Koonce, 59, substitute teacher Cynthia Peak, 61, and African American Mike Hill, 61, the school’s custodian. Hale left behind a manifesto explaining her actions but trans activists oppose release of the documents, now in the hands of the FBI. At this writing, the manifesto remains unreleased but autopsy records enable the murder victims to testify. Consider first responder Mike Hill.

The fall of Meghan’s media empire

Even the Hollywood elites are tired of the Sussexes’ tales of woe.

When Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, first appeared on the world stage, she felt to many of us like a bi-racial breath of fresh air, beloved by all but the most stuffy among us. That was until ‘Megxit’ in 2020, when she left the royal family at a trot, dragging the hapless Harry behind her, to spend the rest of her days in a gated community in California. Deals with Netflix, Spotify and book publishers flooded in soon after. Apparently, there was a huge, lucrative market for Harry and Meghan’s ‘insights’.

The study of UFOs is finally becoming respectable science

A rare bipartisan hearing in Congress shows that there is much to learn

The Morning in America anchor of NewsNation, Markie Martin, said to me on Tuesday: “Avi, you are a Harvard astrophysicist and most of us do not have that education. How do you advise that we interpret the hearing at the US House of Representatives on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP)?” My reply was simple: “Just pay attention to the factual information presented by the witnesses. Think of yourself as a juror in a courtroom and decide whether to believe the witnesses.”
