Ford says he seeks ‘common ground’ with Chow on housing, repeats pledge to redevelop Ontario Place

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is pledging to work with Toronto mayor-elect Olivia Chow on common issues such as building more affordable housing, but urged her to get the city’s finances under control and vowed to forge ahead with his government’s plans to redevelop waterfront site Ontario Place over her objections.

Mr. Ford congratulated Ms. Chow for winning Monday’s mayoral by-election, despite previously warning that her election would be an “unmitigated disaster” for the city and endorsing rival candidate Mark Saunders, who finished a distant third.

Tasha Kheiriddin: Mélanie Joly fantasizes that Canada’s reputation is ‘very positive’

This past weekend both my daughter and I celebrated our birthdays. The teenagers staged an elaborate version of the Hunger Games in the Ontario countryside (water guns and nerf arrows, no knives), while the grownups sipped wine and tried to ignore their newsfeeds. This was a futile endeavour. Between the Wagner Group’s aborted march on Moscow, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alighting in Iceland for a meeting of Nordic leaders, and Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly talking foreign policy on CTV, the news kept intruding, to the point where Suzanne Collins’ dystopian novel seemed an apt metaphor for the current state of the world.

Whatever Harry and Meghan have to sell, the public aren’t buying it

Few falls from grace have been quite so swift

Even for those of us who are not well disposed towards the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, it is hard not to wish — occasionally — that they might catch a break. Yet apart from Harry’s well-judged and unostentatious appearance at the coronation, things have gone from bad to worse over the past six months for the couple. Tetchy High Court appearances; continuing estrangement with the British royal family; and now the apparently total collapse of their wider media ambitions. Few falls from grace have been quite so swift.

Humans are pumping out so much groundwater that it’s changing Earth’s tilt

Earth’s tilt has changed by 31.5 inches (80 centimeters) between 1993 and 2010 because of the amount of groundwater humans have pumped from the planet’s interior.

In that period, humans removed 2,150 gigatons of water from natural reservoirs in the planet’s crust. If such an amount was poured into the global ocean, its surface would rise by 0.24 inches (6 millimeters). A new study has now revealed that displacing such an enormous amount of water has had an effect on the axis around which the planet spins.

The Left Twists the Meaning of “Book Ban”

What’s being removed from school libraries is material entirely inappropriate for students. Don’t believe me? Pornographic examples below.

The Left has been collectively hyperventilating about “book bans” for months. No one should be surprised that liberals are redefining the word “ban” in an effort to stigmatize conservative politicians leading the movement for parental rights in education. But some moderate Republicans have also signaled that they, too, buy into the idea that restricting content based on age-appropriateness constitutes a “book ban.”

Organ harvesting: Trafficked for his kidney and now forced into hiding

When a man who’d been sleeping rough walked into a police station near Heathrow Airport, it would lead to the UK’s first prosecution of human trafficking for organ removal. The BBC has been given unprecedented access to the Metropolitan Police team that investigated this historic case.

Daniel was about to get the fright of his life.

He was sitting in a consulting room at the Royal Free hospital in London, speaking to doctors with his limited English.

The 21-year-old street trader from Lagos, Nigeria, had come to the UK days earlier for what he had been told was a “life-changing opportunity”. He thought he was going to get a better job.

The Palestinians No One Talks About

While anti-Israel activism on US campuses has increased over the past two years, no one seems interested in what is happening on the campuses of Palestinian universities in the West Bank. Students are being arrested and tortured by the security forces of the Palestinian Authority (PA). The activists leading the anti-Israel campaigns in the US appear so blinded by their hatred for Israel that they are unwilling to help the Palestinians whom they so profess to care about by commenting that the PA security forces are cracking down on Palestinian university students. Even if the anti-Israel activists are made aware that Palestinian students living under the PA are being hauled off and tortured by their own leaders, they are not likely to speak out because there is no way to blame Israel or hold it responsible.

Review body probing foreign interference calls on government to release more cabinet documents

One of the review bodies investigating the federal government’s approach to foreign interference says the government has provided it with only a “limited” number of cabinet confidence documents.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed last month to waive cabinet confidence so that two federal agencies — the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP) and the National Security and Intelligence Review Agency (NSIRA) — can read the confidential documents David Johnston, the government’s former special rapporteur on foreign interference, reviewed as he produced his report on foreign interference.

Biden-Backed Battery Plant Relies On Tech From CCP-Led Chinese Firm

A U.S. battery maker backed by the Biden administration relies on technology from a Chinese Communist Party-led company, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation review of Chinese media reports.

The Department of Energy (DOE) awarded KORE Power, a U.S.-based battery firm, an $850 million loan in early June to construct its “KOREPlex” battery-cell production facility in Arizona. DOE billed the loan as part of the administration’s efforts to “onshore [electric vehicle] supply chains.” However, KOREPlex will rely on technology from the firm’s long-time Chinese manufacturing partner, Do-Flouride New Materials (DFD), DOE Loan Programs Office (LPO) Director Jigar Shah said in an interview Wednesday.

Penn State professor sues the college after he claimed he was forced to teach that the English language is ‘racist’ and the ’embodiment of white supremacy’

An English professor who worked at Pennsylvania State University is suing the college on claims that they racially discriminated against him and other white staff.

Zack De Piero, 40, served as an assistant professor of English and Composition at Penn State-Abington from 2018 to 2022.

During this time he claims he was forced to grade ‘hispanic and black’ students differently and was subject to exercises centered on critical race theory where white staff were made to feel ‘terrible.’
