Sabrina Maddeaux: Three years of Olivia Chow will push voters to the right

Toronto’s fate should Chow be elected

In the end, Toronto’s mayoral election never came down to a left versus right fight. Former NDP MP Olivia Chow won 37 per cent of the vote, squeaking out a victory over second-place finisher Ana Bailão — a candidate so dully centrist, it took a former mayor best known for being boring to breathe life into her campaign.

Poilievre tells ‘Trudeau the child sexual mutilation pimp’ to ‘butt out’ on New Brunswick’s policy on LGBTQ students

Pierre Poilievre said the prime minister has no business weighing in on New Brunswick’s Policy 713 on LGBTQ students, even as the federal Conservative leader called on Justin Trudeau to “let parents raise kids.”

The policy was designed to protect LGBTQ students in schools. But earlier this year, New Brunswick’s Progressive Conservative government made changes that, in part, will no longer require teachers to use the chosen names and pronouns of transgender or non-binary students under 16 without parental consent.

Jeffrey Epstein’s death was suicide with no outside involvement, DoJ report rules

Jeffrey Epstein’s 2019 death was a suicide with no outside involvement, a Department of Justice report has ruled today after years of rampant conspiracy theories questioning why the notorious, well-connected pedophile was able to take his own life while in custody.

Epstein killed himself in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

He hanged himself using ‘excess’ prison linens which he should never have had.

People city …

People city …

Looting retail outlets is not new in the city, liquor stores were the preferred target a couple of years ago. That seems to be under control now or is simply not being reported any longer.

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned having to to be virtually vetted before being allowed in to a locked down drugstore during “normal business hours”. This was due to the number of raids conducted by local “youths.” It was in a strip mall maybe 1000 yards from Rob Ford’s old home.

Last week I filled up at my local gas station. They had just changed over to pre-pay due to the surge in “gas and dash” incidents.

The demon possessed of the TTC homeless shelter are still being dumped out at Kipling station to wander and scream at all hours.

Chow did not cause this. But the comrade will make it far worse far faster than under the usual apparatchiks of our political class.

By the numbers …

On the more serious side of the numbers, voter turnout was higher for this byelection to select the mayor of Toronto than what we saw in last fall’s municipal vote. In October, just 29% of eligible voters cast their ballots but, in this election, it was up to 39% of eligible voters trotting out to fill in the circle.

Canada’s grocery industry concentrated in too few hands, Competition Bureau says

Canada’s grocery business is controlled by large players and needs government assistance to encourage new entrants to bring down prices, a report from Canada’s Competition Bureau says.

The report, published Tuesday, is the result of a probe that Canada’s top competition watchdog launched last year, when concern over food prices hit a fever pitch.

The bureau spent months examining many aspects of Canada’s grocery business, which is dominated by three domestic giants — Loblaws, Metro and Sobey’s owner Empire — along with foreign players like Walmart and Costco.

Nothing will come of this. Canada is the land of Milk & Honey – for Oligopolies.

Planned Parenthood is banned across Saskatchewan after supplying 9th graders with sexually explicit groomer card game

A Planned Parenthood organization has been banned from schools in a Canadian province after children were offered an ‘A to Z’ guide that included descriptions of extreme sex acts.

Planned Parenthood Regina, in Saskatchewan, delivered a seminar to Grade 9 students at Lumsden High School before children were able to take the card game that included a series of explicit terms and definitions.

Some parents complained and the Saskatchewan Education Minister, Dustin Duncan, announced that Planned Parenthood Regina has now been suspended from working in the region’s schools.

Pothole damage from electric cars is double that of petrol

Electric cars damage roads twice as much as their petrol equivalents, analysis has shown, as the pothole crisis grows on Britain’s roads.

Analysis by The Telegraph has found that the average electric car more than doubles the wear on road surfaces, which in turn could increase the number of potholes.

The country is suffering from a pothole crisis, with half as many filled last year compared to a decade ago amid an estimated £12 billion price tag to fill them all.

Christine Van Geyn: College of Psychologists attacks Jordan Peterson in court

On June 21, in a hot, crowded courtroom at Old Osgoode Hall in downtown Toronto, the fight between Dr. Jordan Peterson and the College of Psychologists of Ontario played out.

The fight stems from an investigation by the regulator for clinical psychologists into statements Dr. Peterson had made on Twitter and on the Joe Rogan Podcast. The regulator ordered him to participate in a coaching program about professionalism in public comments, at his own expense, and for an indeterminate amount of time. He is now challenging that order for training (or as Dr. Peterson calls it, “re-education”) in a judicial review, which took place in the hearing this week. (A judicial review is when a court reviews an administrative decision, like the college’s decision to order training.)

New images show Chinese spy balloons over Asia

New evidence of China’s spy balloon programme – including flights over Japan and Taiwan – has been uncovered by BBC Panorama.

Japan has confirmed balloons have flown over its territory and said it’s prepared to shoot them down in future.

China has not directly addressed the evidence presented by the BBC.

US-China relations were thrown into turmoil earlier this year, when an alleged Chinese spy balloon was shot down off the US coast.

David Johnston files his final report on foreign interference, but it won’t be made public

OTTAWA — David Johnston has filed his final — and confidential — report on foreign interference to the prime minister, ending his controversial term as special rapporteur.

Johnston had announced his plans to resign the role earlier this month, saying the atmosphere around his work had become too partisan.

The former governor general was appointed to the role in March, as the Liberal government faced increasing pressure to tackle allegations that China meddled in the last two federal elections.
