‘No Joke’: The Baffling Silence by The Biden Administration, UN and EU on Iran’s Human Rights Abuses

Not only have the Biden Administration, the EU, and the UN have been silent in the face of the Iranian regime’s increasing human rights violations, but just a few days after the regime executed two young men, Yousef Mehrad and Sadrollah Fazeli Zare, for “blasphemy,” Iran was rewarded by being appointed chair of the United Nations Human Rights Council 2023 Social Forum, as well as being handsomely compensated by the European Union.

The grotesque move prompted The Telegraph to headline, “Iran human rights role ‘like granting Bin Laden a Nobel Peace Prize.'”

CRTC erred in its decision on Radio-Canada ̷N̷-̷w̷o̷r̷d̷ “White Niggers Of America” broadcast, court finds

A federal court has ruled that the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) erred in its decision penalizing Société Radio-Canada (SRC) for broadcasting the N-word.

In a unanimous decision released Thursday, the Federal Court of Appeal said that the broadcast regulator made several mistakes when it ruled against SRC in response to a complaint.

In particular, the court ruled, the CRTC cited sections of the Broadcasting Act which do not give it the authority to regulate speech on the airwaves. The court sent the decision back to the CRTC for reconsideration.

What a stupid country we have become.

How Canada’s FOI system broke under its own weight

Information held by the government is supposed to be yours. Yet at every turn, the process gives institutions incentives to keep records hidden

A developer from Cornwall, Ont., is perplexed to find that his building permits are suddenly being denied. He files a request under freedom-of-information law for copies of any city records about him or his company. Three months later, he’s told he will need to pay a $1,963.50 processing fee. When he does, he receives pages of mostly blanked-out paper, a full box of his own building applications and files and a note that 3,500 records are being fully withheld.
