‘Most hippie’ town in Washington outlaws drugs after ODs in streets, fentanyl death of 5-year-old

A town which once prided itself as being the “most hippie” in Washington has taken drastic action to outlaw drugs, after state-wide decriminalization led to spiking crime and child overdose deaths.

The proudly liberal city of 92,000 has been pushed to its limit, with the fire department responding to 223 overdoses — 2.5 calls per day — between January and April 12, according to Cascadia Daily.

Investigators examine Texas gunman’s white supremacist views after 8 killed

ALLEN, Tex. — The gunman who opened fire on an outlet mall in a Dallas suburb on Saturday, killing at least eight people, had an apparent fascination with white supremacist or neo-Nazi beliefs that are now being examined by investigators as a possible motive for the attack, people familiar with the investigation said Sunday.

Mauricio Garcia, a Dallas resident in his early 30s, had multiple weapons on him and five additional guns in his car nearby, said people familiar with the investigation who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing probe.

The obsession, and its untold costs, of trying to find housing in Toronto

We have a crisis of housing affordability in this city. I’m not telling you anything you don’t know: we’re obsessed with it, items at city council this month (on declaring homelessness an emergency, and permitting new housing types to be built more easily) are trying to tackle parts of it, multiple mayoral candidates (Mark Saunders, Ana Bailão, Anthony Perruzza, Mitzie Hunter) either released housing plans this week or are planning to do so next, and others (Olivia Chow, Josh Matlow, Brad Bradford) already have at least parts of theirs out.

Everyone knows we have a problem.

It’s a Star piece. That’s the only way someone could write about the housing crisis without mentioning Trudeau’s city destroying mass immigration policy. Ideological blindness is mandatory.

His lament that the “creative class” (people like himself) are leaving TO is sheer vainity.

They were going to leave due to crime sooner or later, it’s what Liberals do after they fuck a city over.

Did China Help Vancouver’s Mayor Win Election?

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Every day when he arrives at his office in City Hall, Mayor Ken Sim stares at a prominent black-and-white photograph of Chinese railway workers toiling on the tracks in British Columbia in 1884.

Mr. Sim, the son of Hong Kong immigrants, said the workers’ weathered faces are a daily reminder of the symbolic importance of his election as Vancouver’s first Chinese Canadian mayor, and of just how far Chinese Canadians have come.

Preparing Canada for a New Generation of Security Challenges

Canada’s armed forces are ready for emergency pronoun deployment under battlefield conditions.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau privately told NATO officials that Canada will never meet NATO’s defense-spending target of 2 percent of GDP. While this made headlines in Canada and abroad, it surprised few in Canadian foreign policy and defense circles.

The war in Ukraine has raised new security concerns among America’s allies. For many in Western Europe and North America, U.S. military primacy allowed for a state of complacency and low military spending. As the United States and its allies assembled to support Ukraine, the demands of 21st-century warfare exposed weaknesses in military capacity for the United States and its key allies — in particular Canada.

Interesting article but it fails to properly address the recruiting crisis ignoring the woke poison that encourages discrimination against white males and the CAF’s bizarre obsession with the advancement of sexual mutilation festishists. Rejuvention? Ain’t gonna happen under the Lib-NDP regime.

Georgia Takes a Stand on Homeless Policy

Legislators in the Peach State have joined a growing movement rejecting the failed approaches that have fostered urban anarchy elsewhere.

The United States has a homelessness problem, but we have an even bigger homelessness-policy problem. It is an issue at the federal level—HUD spends nearly $10 billion annually to create bad incentives that reward destitution—and at the state and local level. This week, two widely divergent state approaches to homelessness were on display.

…. In San Francisco, “permanent supportive housing” is one such failed program. In one instance, the city found that a quarter of those given a free apartment were dead in just a few years, many from overdoses. The federal government and states like California embrace this boondoggle, but other states should make other choices. They can dedicate funding to treatment and emergency shelter, for example.

We can hope Toronto takes note … but I fear city hall is in love with all the worst policy.

In 2006, Canada Deployed Leopard 1A5 Tanks To Break Up Taliban Ambushes. Ukraine, Take Note.

In 2003, the Canadian government made the controversial decision to remove from service all 66 of the Canadian army’s Leopard C2 tanks—local variants of the German-designed Leopard 1A5.

Three years later in September 2006, a Canadian force riding in wheeled light armored vehicles blundered into a Taliban ambush in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province.

Intersecting rocket- and gunfire laced the vehicles. Of the 50 Canadians in the fight, four were killed and at least 10 were wounded. The outgunned Canadians called in a NATO warplane, but the crew accidentally dropped a thousand-pound bomb practically on top of the same troops it was supposed to be saving.

Why China and its trading allies are well placed to topple the dollar

After decades meting out sanctions and financial coercion, the US may soon feel its grip on world trade beginning to loosen.

Change is good, but dollars are better, a US author of romance novels once wrote. A similarly light-hearted sentiment often inspires discussions about the future role of the US dollar as the world’s leading currency. The consensus view is that the dollar is safe. I think the consensus is wrong.

The dollar is the foundation of US global leadership, and the future of the dollar is therefore intricately linked to the debate about geopolitical fragmentation. Brazil’s president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, asked during his recent visit to China: “Why should every country have to be tied to the dollar for trade?… Who decided the dollar would be the [world’s] currency?”

Blame Putin for Stoking Violence in Sudan

The dramatic upsurge of violence between warring factions in Sudan is just the latest example of the chaos being caused throughout the world by the Biden administration’s wilful abandonment of its global responsibilities.

It also demonstrates how, in the absence of effective American leadership in world affairs, rogue states like Russia are willing to fill the void to pursue their own nefarious agenda.

Kathy’s sense of humour?

So I stopped by Kathy’s resting place this afternoon in honour of her Birthday.

While there the roar of what turned out to be about 100 motorcycles broke the silence.

They wheeled into the cemetery and conveniently surrounded my vehicle and by parking two abreast effectively blocked off the narrow road.

No way out.

I politely asked some of the gals if they would be long and was assured this would be a short stay.

They were doing a memorial run for fallen comrades. Very nice gals to chat with.

While I took a couple of pics, the once overs by some indicated that I best put the phone down.

Turns out they are a 1% Club.

Thanks for the fun Kath. I promise I’ll stay longer next visit.

NATO’s 2 per cent military spending benchmark is ‘self-evident’: Finnish president

The president of NATO’s newest member nation said the military alliance’s two per cent defence spending target seems “self-evident” to him — even as a debate rages over the fact that most NATO members, Canada included, are not meeting the target.

In an interview airing Sunday on Rosemary Barton Live, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö said the Nordic country is committed to its current level of defence spending — around two per cent of GDP. NATO members pledged in 2006 to spend two per cent of their national GDP on defence.

“I think that it’s self-evident … To me, as a Finn, we usually do what we agree [to do],” Niinistö told host Rosemary Barton.

Not evident to Junior.
