CHARLEBOIS: Death, taxes and shrinkflation

As if shrinkflation wasn’t painful enough for all of us, looks like the taxman is making shrinking packages even more painful for our wallets.

Shrinkflation is when a food manufacturer reduces quantities but continues to sell the product at the same price. We have seen this happening pretty much everywhere in all sections of the grocery store. It’s even now happening in the fresh section, with strawberries and blueberries.

Toronto School Violence, Difficult Behaviour on the Rise: Report

In a recent survey of Toronto school principals, 80 percent said they’re ill equipped to maintain school safety. About 40 percent said violent behaviour was on the rise, including physical fights and possession of weapons.

The rise in violence at the Toronto District School Board is on track to being the worst since 2000, when the board began collecting data, according to the Toronto Star.

The Toronto School Administrators’ Association (TSAA) surveyed its members and released a report detailing the post-pandemic uptick in school problems, a copy of which was obtained by the Globe and Mail.

Johnny can’t read because literacy is racist but he does know he’s really a girl.

Not a surprise given the TDSB is a woke cesspit overrun by lunatics who should never have been allowed near children in the first place.

You breed violence by pretending the enforcement of standards of acceptable behavior and academic achievement is racist.

As it stands the TDSB is just a variant of the TTC Homeless Shelter, a place to park all the little thugs.

How to stop the poison? Smash the teacher’s unions, take over the boards, wrest control of the teacher’s colleges, enforce a sane curriculum, fire the whackjobs wholesale.

Good luck.

This is another reason Toronto is turning into a shithole city.

Xi’s Moscow mission is to ensure the Ukraine war has one winner — him

Xi Jinping is not going to Moscow to make peace.

His meetings with President Putin on Monday and Tuesday and his virtual talks with President Zelensky are clearly intended to look like an effort to end the war in Ukraine. And indeed the

Chinese leader would surely prefer the conflict to be over than to see it continue. Already, in just over a year, it has damaged China’s interests in various ways: by reinvigorating Nato, by undermining Beijing’s efforts to mend diplomatic ties with Europe, by weakening demand in crucial export markets, by galvanising the rearmament of Japan, by prompting the United States to rush weapons to Taiwan.

But Xi has a more urgent priority: his aim is to ensure that Russia does not lose.

Federal public servants got $200M in bonuses last year despite frequently missed targets

Despite only meeting performance goals less than 60 per cent of the time, federal public servants received just under $200 million in bonuses last year, mostly to public administration executives.

That brings total bonuses handed to federal workers during the COVID-19 pandemic to over half a billion dollars, paid out between the 2019–20 and 2021–22 fiscal years.

UK has tens of thousands of potential terrorists who are one trigger away from an attack says Met Commissioner

Mohammed cartoon protest London, England.

Identifying most dangerous terrorists like finding ‘needle in haystack’, Sir Mark Rowley warns

The UK has tens of thousands of potential terrorists and identifying the ones who are likely to carry out an attack is like finding a “needle in a haystack”, Sir Mark Rowley has warned.

While the most dangerous extremists in Britain are closely monitored by the police and security services, there are many more who share the ideology but lack the “spark to act”.

The Met Commissioner said the trigger was often something that happened in their personal life, making it extremely difficult for the authorities to keep on top of.

The Commissioner cites 6400 referrals to the UK’s Prevent “anti-terror” Program.

Prevent was found under a recent review to have falsely focused on the so-called “right-wing” terror threat while ignoring the very real Muslim terror threat because they were afraid of offending the Islamists.

‘Political correctness’ meant Islamist extremism was downplayed by Prevent -Home Secretary’s words come as review finds scheme operated a ‘double standard’, downplaying religion and talking up Right-wing dangers

TTC: Fighting or fleeing is no answer

A Toronto gym made the news this week for hosting a martial arts course designed specifically to help transit riders defend themselves if they are attacked.

“It’s no secret that people don’t feel safe on public transit. And why should they?” reads the website announcement. “Nearly every day, the headlines cover news stories of brutal and random attacks happening on buses and subways perpetrated against innocent civilians at random.”

Does anyone know who’s running for mayor?

Rancher rips Utah teacher’s climate assignment encouraging kids to eat bugs over beef: ‘Junk science’

A teacher from Utah’s Nebo School district went viral for doling out an extra credit assignment encouraging students to eat insects for a lesson on climate change and claiming that doing so would alleviate some of the harm done by raising cattle and eating beef, according to information obtained by Fox News Digital.

“Should we be eating bugs?” teacher Kim Cutler asked in a video that aired Sunday on “Fox & Friends Weekend.” “Yeah, because we’re killing the world by raising cows and animals,” she continued.

Why ̷a̷s̷y̷l̷u̷m̷ ̷s̷e̷e̷k̷e̷r̷s̷ benefit shoppers are choosing Canada in record numbers

Last year, nearly 40,000 migrants crossed into Canada at an unofficial border at the end of a remote rural road in upstate New York – a record number – to seek asylum. Many are driven by the belief that the country is more welcoming than the US. But can Canada handle the influx?

On a snowy winter day, Roxham Road is cold and quiet. The silence is interrupted by the sound of wheels approaching the end of the path, or the crunching of footsteps on snow.

Around 150 migrants are dropped off here each day, determined to step foot into Canada. Many began their journey as far away as Brazil, with this road in New York state as their finish line.

… Some pinned its sudden popularity to fears of deportation from the US under the Trump administration, others to a tweet by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that read: “To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you”.

Blackie’s Star Asks: Why do so many men dislike Justin Trudeau?

… And yes, in this 4,000-respondent poll by Abacus, carried out in early February, the gender gap is glaringly evident: a full 52 per cent of men reported a negative view of Trudeau, compared to 44 per cent women.

But things get really interesting when you look at voters with “very negative” views, the type Trudeau knows are not going to believe him, no matter what he says.

“So 36 per cent of men in Canada, over one in three, have a very negative view of the prime minister,” says Abacus CEO David Coletto. “They really, really don’t like him.” Women who reported “very negative” views, on the other hand, numbered around 26 per cent. “Men tend to dislike the prime minister more than women,” Coletto says.

Justin Trudeau is a deceitful sack of shit. Other than that I like him just fine. Seems a large contingent of women also see through the media hype.

Toronto’s downtown office district faces long-term slump as new work patterns take hold

… The days when life centred around the five-day office week appear to be gone, disrupting the foundation of downtown Toronto. Office workers no longer need to rely on the bevy of retailers that used to service their every need, from hairdressers and dry cleaners to food shops making take-home meals for their families.

As of early March, the percentage of employees in Toronto’s financial hub averaged 43 per cent of prepandemic occupancy levels, according to data from consulting firm Strategic Regional Research Alliance, which conducts in-depth interviews and surveys of downtown office tenants. That is the highest level of occupancy since the pandemic started – a dismal sign of the slow return to the office.

This is not a good sign. I have wondered for some time if Toronto even has a reason to exist any longer. There’s not much there here.

Christian theology lecturer is sacked and ‘threatened with counter-terrorism referral’ after tweeting that homosexuality is ‘invading the church’

A Christian theology lecturer who reportedly claimed he was threatened with a referral to a counter-terror programme after tweeting that ‘homosexuality is invading the church’ has been sacked.

Dr Aaron Edwards, 37, was sacked from Cliff College, Derbyshire, after he was found to have brought it ‘into disrepute’ following a social media post.

The father-of-five, who refers to himself as a ‘cancelled Christian lecturer’, is understood to have subsequently been informed he could be referred to the government-led counter-terror counter-extremism programme Prevent.

Poilievre calls for changes to allow doctors, nurses to work across Canada

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre called Sunday for the development of a national standards system that would allow qualified doctors and nurses to work in any province or territory in the country.

Poilievre proposed what he called a “Blue Seal” standard, modelled after the Red Seal program used in the skilled trades. The standard would apply to the national competency test for a worker’s profession, and if health-care workers pass the test, they would be quickly licensed and able to work anywhere that adopts the new standard.

So long as they are able to screen for fraud and ensure that the institution attended by the physician offered a sound training with standards equivalent to our own.

NJ mom reported by military official for post objecting to ‘polysexual’ poster at child’s school: lawsuit

A New Jersey mother is suing after she was allegedly reported by a high-ranking U.S. military official as a safety concern for complaining about sexually charged posters at her children’s elementary school.

Angela Reading, a mother of two who served as a member of the Northern Burlington Board of Education, made headlines in December after Lt. Col. Christopher Schilling of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst reportedly flagged her post to local police when she alerted parents in a local Facebook group about posters promoting polysexuality at the entrance of her 7-year-old’s school.

Douglas Todd: Five forces contorting Canadian home prices this spring

Mortgage rates, changing psychology, Canada’s vulnerability, large volumes of investors and migration policy are squeezing the country’s housing market.

Spring is in the air. And for some, so is the expectation of a housing rebound.

The real estate industry hopes the spring market, when sales traditionally surge, will turn around housing prices, which have fallen 19 per cent nationally since their peak a year ago.

There are tentative signs some buyers are tiptoeing back into the market, which has been hammered for a year by mortgage rates that have risen to six and seven per cent. That was forced by the Bank of Canada and others around the world realizing they had to beat back inflation caused by government over-spending during the pandemic.
