Why Some of Trump’s Muslim ‘Allies’ Fear a Loss of Iran More Than They Fear Iran

US President Donald J. Trump’s Gulf Arab allies, according to the New York Times, oppose an American strike on Iran primarily out of fear of regional instability and the possible damage to economies, tourism, and domestic security.

While this explanation may sound credible on the surface, a deeper and far more uncomfortable reality is that for several of these regimes, the real danger is not Iran’s collapse, but an ideological exposure that could follow decisive American action, as well as concern about Israel becoming more prominent in the region.

Toronto Police officers have been accused of running a matchmaking service for violent crooks. The question now is how deep the rot goes

Give him this much. When he appeared before the media Thursday, Myron Demkiw sounded shook. And who can blame him? The Toronto police chief wasn’t announcing just any scandal, along with his colleagues from York Region. No, the rot Demkiw laid out — alleged corruption, organized crime, drug dealing, links to attempted murder — is the kind of stuff that can stain a department for generations.

“This is a painful and unsettling moment,” Demkiw said, his always gravelly voice nearly breaking. “It needs to be addressed openly and it needs to be addressed honestly.” Demkiw said that last word — honestly — staring straight down at his notes. It crackled as it came out of his mouth: honestly. He barely got it out.

‘He says different things at different times’: Hillman on whether Trump wants to keep CUSMA

Amid a year-long trade war, Canada’s outgoing ambassador to the United States says she doesn’t know whether U.S. President Donald Trump hopes to keep the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) in place, because his messaging around the deal has been inconsistent.

The agreement, inked during Trump’s first term, is up for review this year. In 2018, Trump called it the “most modern, up-to-date, and balanced trade agreement in the history of (the United States),” but just last month called it “irrelevant.”

Out of Control: Leftist Shoots Right-Wing Livestreamers with BB Gun in Portland in Drive-By Attack Near ICE HQ

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) riots by Antifa and other activists since June 2025 may have now claimed what could have been the first killing tied to this anti-ICE operation in Portland, following a Friday-night drive-by shooting. Instead of using an actual gun, however, the angry shooter, a woman, used a reported non-lethal BB-type gun and shot at least one right-wing livestreamer in the face and arm multiple times. Others may have been hit as well.

‘They killed my sons’: chief of Nigerian village where jihadists massacred hundreds recounts night of terror

The traditional chief of a village in western Nigeria where jihadists massacred residents earlier this week has recounted a night of terror during which the attackers killed two of his sons and kidnapped his wife and three daughters.

Umar Bio Salihu, the 53-year-old chief of Woro, a small, Muslim-majority village in Kwara state, said that at about 5pm on Tuesday the gunmen “just came in and started shooting”.

“All those shops that are within the road, they burnt them … Some people have been burned inside their houses,” he told the Agence France-Presse news agency. “They killed two of (my sons) standing at the front of my house. They took away my second wife with some three (daughters). They are with them presently in the bush.”

The Eglinton Crosstown LRT opens after 15 years of construction

On a brisk Sunday morning, the first TTC riders boarded the Eglinton Crosstown LRT after 15 years of frustration, disappointment and seemingly never-ending construction.

The inaugural train left from Kennedy Station at 7:29 a.m., a minute early, in stark contrast to the project’s beleaguered timeline.

But as the first train left, it was immediately held at a red light, to the frustration of riders who had waited for hours in subzero temperatures and have been calling for transit signal priority.

Let the morally and financially bankrupt UN perish

“Imminent financial collapse,” United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres hysterically predicted in a Jan. 29 letter to all UN member states, saying his reputationally challenged organization is so cash-strapped that it will run out of money by July, close its iconic Manhattan headquarters in August and cancel its annual General Assembly meeting in September.

Most UN functions, including its Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, which claims to coordinate responses to global emergencies, may also sunset in the coming months due to lack of funds.

This gushing cavalcade of good news sounds more like a promise than a warning.

The Canada F-35 Fighter Deal Might Be Close to Collapse

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is inching closer to a possible decision to end Canada’s F-35 procurement plans and accept an offer from Sweden’s Saab, instead, with news this week revealing that the Swedish manufacturer is now providing Ottawa with detailed, technical information on what a JAS 39 Gripen fighter deal would actually look like in practice.

Among the topics currently being discussed in Ottawa are timelines for technology transfers, the speed at which a Canadian production line could be established, and how Canada could participate in future export sales of the aircraft.

US wants Russia and Ukraine to end war by June, says Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says the US wants the war with Russia to end by June, adding both sides had been invited to the US for talks next week.

“America proposed for the first time that the two negotiating teams – Ukraine and Russia – meet in the United States of America, probably in Miami, in a week. We confirmed our participation,” he said.

There was no immediate comment from Washington or Moscow, but US President Donald Trump has been pushing for an end for the conflict since he took office again more than a year ago.

White victims of grooming gangs ‘betrayed’ by prosecutors

Prosecutors are betraying grooming victims by failing to treat rape gang offences against white working-class girls as hate crimes, it has been claimed.

Fiona Goddard, who was repeatedly raped from the age of 14 during her time in children’s homes in Bradford in the 2000s, said it was “deeply frustrating” that the crimes were not deemed to have a racial element.

Ms Goddard, now 32, said her abusers “spoke about ‘white girls’ as people they could use, saying they needed to keep Pakistani girls ‘pure’”.

Victims have been referred to by Pakistani-Muslim abusers as “white b—h” and “trash”.

Terry Glavin: Carney-China deal full of Trojan Horses on police and propaganda

“Trojan horses.”

That’s shaping up to be the most useful way of describing several mostly overlooked elements of the “strategic partnership” Prime Minister Mark Carney entered into with Chinese Supreme Leader Xi Jinping in Beijing last month. It wasn’t all about canola and cars.

China and Carney will be the death of Canada.
