Ukraine releases video appearing to show Russian troops beating own wounded officer

Ukraine has released extraordinary video footage that appears to show Russian fighters dragging their badly wounded commander away from the battlefield, and then beating him violently with what appear to be shovels.

A Ukrainian drone captured the incident near the eastern city of Bakhmut, where intense fighting has been raging for months. Four soldiers from Russia’s Wagner mercenary group carry their colleague through a landscape of ruined houses, holding his arms and legs.

One-third of households say they’re financially worse off compared to year ago: poll

OTTAWA – A new poll finds one-third of Canadian households say their financial situation has worsened over the last year.

According to a Leger poll commissioned by the Association for Canadian Studies, 34 per cent of Canadian households say they’re financially worse off compared with a year ago.

… “People … in lower income brackets are finding the pinch particularly difficult in terms of the effects of the inflation and higher interest rates and so forth,” Jedwab said.

The survey doesn’t ask if your financial position is good only whether it has improved, stayed the same or gotten worse. Maybe “shiite” is the baseline.

Rogue scientist has ‘huge unease’ over future of Chinese gene-edited babies

A rogue Chinese scientist who was jailed for creating the world’s first genetically edited babies has described his “huge unease” over the future of the children, now aged about four.

He Jiankui, 39, was sentenced to three years in prison in 2019 after an international outcry when it emerged that he had altered the genes of twin girls, known as Lulu and Nana, at the embryonic stage with a technique called Crispr in an attempt to make them immune to HIV infection.

Crispr Crunch? Mutants on demand? Genetic Class Warfare?

Rex Murphy: Trudeau’s wokeism is a dismissal of everything that counts

So now we have, at least for the time being, a state-sponsored “representative” to combat Islamophobia.

I say for the time being only because there are concerted mutterings out of Quebec that the advocate-activist so appointed is an ill choice. And as all know Justin Trudeau has an eagle’s eye for alarms coming out of his home province.

Sub-Saharan Africa is the ‘new epicenter’ of Islamic extremism, U.N. says

NAIROBI — The new global epicenter of violent Islamic extremism is sub-Saharan Africa, where people are increasingly becoming radicalized because of economic factors rather than religious ones, says a new report by the United Nations’ international development agency.

The agency registered an increase of 92% in new recruits to extremist groups who said they joined to have better livelihoods, compared with the motivations of those interviewed for a previous U.N. report released in 2017.

Islam never has anything to do with Islam according to the UN.

I can hardly wait for the 1st “solar compacting bin” personal injury lawsuit

Torontonians know these trash cans are a problem. Are solar compacting bins a solution?

Toronto has a trash problem with garbage overflowing onto streets and blowing into surrounding areas, and some councillors are now calling on the city to explore a new solution — smart, solar-powered compacting bins for both garbage disposal and recycling.

According to the Rochman Lab at the University of Toronto, the city generated 15,785 tons of litter in 2020, the majority of which was leakage from a poorly functioning waste management system, including trash that just didn’t make it securely into a garbage can.

Scientific breakthrough: City to ditch progressive trash bins and have them emptied in timely manner.

Sexually confused insurrectionist cross-dressers & sexual mutilation fetishists invade Oklahoma Capitol

‘Trans Lives Matter’ activists occupy rotunda of Oklahoma Capitol

Transgender rights activists occupied the Oklahoma State Capitol’s rotunda on Monday to protest a push by Republicans to limit so-called gender-affirming care in the state.

About 150 people, many holding signs and banners, chanted “Trans Lives Matter” ahead of a new legislative session in which GOP lawmakers had pre-filed bills aimed at curtailing treatments like hormone replacement therapy, The Oklahoma Daily has reported.

COVID-19 vaccine uptake plunges in Canada

Check the calendar. Has it been more than six months since you’ve gotten a COVID shot?

Experts are concerned with how many people have had any COVID-19 vaccine, regardless if it’s their first vaccine or fifth, in the past six months.

Those who are farther than six months from their last vaccine have a higher chance of a breakthrough infection and the viral load will also be higher, explained Dawn Bowdish, a professor at McMaster University and a Canada Research Chair in aging and immunity.

Canada’s Electric Car Mandate to Increase Grid Demand 23%, Ratepayer Costs Unknown, Says Government

To power electric vehicle charging stations in the coming decades, Canada’s power grid will have to expand by 23 percent—and it’s uncertain how much that will cost ratepayers, according to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).

The government announced in December that all new vehicle sales must be zero-emission by 2035. Conservative MP Warren Steinley asked NRCan to say how much this would impact electricity use and its costs. The answer came in an Inquiry of Ministry tabled last week, first reported on by Blacklock’s Reporter.

I have zero confidence in government studies promoting Trudeau’s Electric-La-La-Land.

Hong Kong Simpsons fans can’t watch China episode

Disney’s self-censorship over labour camp joke fuels concern about national security laws

After Marge Simpson decides she wants to buy a “Pedalon” exercise bike, she is delighted to learn that it will let her travel the world from the comfort of a gym in Springfield.

On one such ride, an instructor called Jesse invites her to tour the Great Wall of China. “Behold the wonders of China,” he tells Homer’s long-suffering wife. “Bitcoin mines, forced labour camps where children make smartphones.” Though the scene might seem innocuous enough, Disney Plus, which screens The Simpsons, is taking no chances.

John Ivison: Liberals could freeze beer taxes and show Canadians they actually care

It’s a risky business for any government to be out of touch because survival depends on being in touch.

That was why last week’s Abacus Data poll was so striking — it suggested that 72 per cent of voters feel the Trudeau government is not focused enough on the cost of living crisis. Half of current Liberal voters feel the same way, the poll suggested. The numbers were comparable for other issues that are preoccupying Canadians like housing and health care.

Trudeau is meeting with Canada’s premiers to reach a new health care funding deal. Here’s what to know

On Tuesday afternoon, Canada’s premiers will meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to discuss a new 10-year health care funding deal with the federal government. As health care systems across the country buckled during the pandemic, premiers demanded Ottawa increase health transfers to address the resulting problems, including staff shortages and ER wait times. They are calling for Ottawa’s share of health care costs to rise to 34 per cent, a significant boost from the current 22 per cent. Here is what you need to know about the meeting and what the new health care deal could include.
