Clark, who is the House Minority Whip, addressed Dowell’s contentious arrest calling it a ‘difficult time.’ Dowell is non-binary.

‘Bikinis and balaclavas’: Northern Ireland spa resort apologises over ‘depraved’ ad
A Northern Ireland resort has apologised for causing offence by advertising a “bikinis and balaclavas” spa package, but said it would continue offering the service.
Rosnashane House in Ballymoney, County Antrim, drew criticism over the weekend for using the image of a woman in a black bikini and balaclava to market a spa treatment with gun range shooting.
The overnight package includes a hot tub, massage and the chance to fire handguns and machine-guns. “Round up the girls or boys for the perfect fun and pampering night out,” said its Facebook page.

Conservative party Leader Pierre Poilievre appeared in an unlikely place in Quebec on New Year’s Eve. He joined other politicians including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Quebec Premier François Legault in a special rendition of Ukraine’s national anthem on Radio-Canada’s hit satirical news show Infoman.
Poilievre was also uncharacteristically kind to the man he’s been accusing of having broken Canada. Following a clip of Fox News’ Tucker Carlson declaring that “there’s no more fearful despot in the world than Justin Trudeau,” Poilievre said that this was “too much, Justin isn’t that bad.”

Departing Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will need more ongoing security and protection than any former New Zealand PM, according to political scientist and former intelligence worker Paul Buchanan.
“Let’s start by saying things have changed dramatically since the day John Key stepped down, and one might say fundamentally,” Buchanan said.
“The security requirements for ex-Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern are going to be far tougher than any previous prime minister – by a lot.”

Defence Minister Anita Anand says she has “no news to share” on whether Canada is willing to send some of its battle tanks to Ukraine — should Germany greenlight the export — following a meeting of 50 allied defence leaders this week.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly issued pleas for tanks, although members of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group failed to come to an agreement on what to send after meetings at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany this week.
Canada has 82 German-made Leopard 2 tanks, in various states of serviceability, but it needs permission from Germany to send them to Ukraine, consent it has yet to receive.

The suspect, 72-year-old Huu Can Tran, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Sunday in the van that authorities say he used to flee after being prevented from attacking another dance hall. A man whose family runs the venue confronted the assailant in the lobby and wrested the gun from him, The New York Times reported.

The gunman who slaughtered 10 people at a California dance club before killing himself had been a regular patron at the venue — and believed that the instructors said “evil things about him.”
Huu Can Tran, 72, opened fire at Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park late Saturday with a semi-automatic pistol, killing 10 people and wounding at least 10 others before storming the rival Lai Lai Ballroom & Studio, where a bystander disarmed him.

UPDATE – Ukraine war: Germany won’t block export of its Leopard 2 tanks, foreign minister says
Germany’s foreign minister Anna Baerbock has said she “would not stand in the way” of Poland if they were to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
Ukraine has called on the West to provide the German-made tanks which they say will help them defeat Russia.
But Germany is yet to provide the armoured vehicles, and its export laws prevent other countries from sending theirs.
On Sunday, Ms Baerbock said Poland had not yet asked for export permission.
“For the moment the question has not been asked, but if we were asked we would not stand in the way,” she told France’s LCI TV on Sunday.
It is a rather wishy washy position implying that Germany may not commit and send its own Leopards – From the German press DW:
Morawiecki said that that German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock’s statement on Sunday, that Berlin would not obstruct Polish efforts to send German-made tanks to Ukraine, represented a “spark of hope” that Germany might join the coalition of countries ready to send Ukraine tanks.
“We are constantly exerting pressure on the government in Berlin to make its Leopards available,” the Polish premier said. He added that Germany has “more than 350 active Leopards and about 200 in storage.”

Vancouver police aren’t allowed to wear thin-blue-line patches on their uniforms, the city’s police board reaffirmed Thursday.
Deputy Chief Fiona Wilson said the decision to prohibit officers from sporting the symbol isn’t due to its contentiousness, but the Vancouver Police Department’s long-standing policy against unauthorized adornments.
