Germany’s government appeared to be split on Monday night after chancellor Olaf Scholz overruled his own foreign minister to insist Poland would need to follow the rules over sending tanks to Ukraine.
Foreign minister Annalena Baerbock had said on Sunday that Berlin would not “stand in the way” of Warsaw re-exporting German Leopard 2 tanks to help Ukraine’s armed forces reclaim territory seized by Russia.
But on Monday a spokesman for Mr Scholz insisted Poland would have to follow an “established procedure” if it wanted to give the German-made tanks to Kyiv.

Two students were killed on Monday and a teacher was injured in what police said was a targeted shooting at a school in Des Moines, Iowa, that is dedicated to helping at-risk youth. Three suspects were arrested.
The shooting was at an educational program called Starts Right Here that is affiliated with the Des Moines school district.
Police say emergency crews were called to the school, which is in a business park, just before 1pm ET. Officers arrived to find two students critically injured, and despite first aid they died at a hospital. The teacher who was injured was in serious condition on Monday afternoon.

It all started when electricity was turned off during low usage hours overnight to conserve fuel across the country, officials said, leaving technicians unable to boot up the system all at once after daybreak. President Joe Biden’s personal attorneys reportedly misled the Department of Justice (DOJ) in November about classified documents being stored at his Wilmington residence.
Shortly after documents at the Penn Biden Center were unearthed on November 2, the White House and DOJ reportedly agreed to hide the scandal from the American people. After the deadly accidental shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on a Santa Fe movie set in 2021, New Mexico prosecutors have announced impending manslaughter charges against the Rust actor and producer Alec Baldwin, who held the prop gun as it discharged what turned out to be live rounds.
