The federal Conflict of Interest Act is ineffective in dealing with politicians who abuse the public’s trust by placing themselves in conflicts of interest.
A $500 maximum fine for violating some sections of the legislation — other sections don’t even have fines — is clearly inadequate and, unlike the Criminal Code, politicians face no risk of charges, trials or imprisonment for violating it.
As revelations emerge about the vast scope of the FTX debacle, the inevitable comparisons are being made between its disgraced chief executive Sam Bankman-Fried and legendary Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff.
To be sure, both scoundrels were adept at parting fools and their money – lots of it. The office has only barely gotten on its feet and they’re trying to get up to speed as quickly as they can. But they still revealed a few interesting tidbits during the call. One of those was an admission that they have received literally hundreds of new UFO reports from both military and civilian witnesses since opening their doors.

Elite guilt about the past will do nothing to help the world’s poorest.
For today’s progressive left and its corporate backers, the past increasingly determines the future. At home and abroad, they seek to remedy historical guilt. So, in recent months, progressive elites have embraced affirmative action and reparations for anyone whose ancestors have ever been poorly treated by those dastardly people of European descent.
